New Additions & Spring Events
Well, well, well… another week has passed with barely a cloud in the sky, discounting that great big volcanic ash one anyway, and us West country folk are starting to forget what rain looks like, not that we’re complaining.
The eagle eyed among you will have noticed that our fine portfolio of seaside holiday cottages was doubly bolstered this week with two stunningly located properties in Bigbury on Sea. Both The Cedars and Atlantic House offer fantastic sea views that can be enjoyed by their respective sun terraces, looking out to the famous Burgh Island (below) or West to the equally popular Bantham Beach.

Four bedroom The Cedars offers a taste of state of the art living, sleeping up to 8, whilst Atlantic House is perfect for larger families and groups, sleeping up to twelve without compromising on comfort or quality.
To be the first to hear about our latest additions you can follow us on Twitter, become a fan of us on Facebook page or log onto the New Property Page of our website.
With a wealth of things to do in the South West this spring, Mr Toad has compiled a list of the 5 events he highly recommends you try to attend. Stuck for a catchy title, he decided to call it ‘5 events Mr Toad highly recommends you try to attend, if you happen to be in the vicinity… at the exact time that the event is being held’, in his absence however (it is Friday after all… he’ll be knee deep in rough on the 11th by now) we’ll just call it:
5 Sensational South West Spring Events!
May 1st Obby Oss Day in Padstow, Cornwall
May Day in Padstow is strictly known as ‘Obby Oss’ Day, celebrating the Celtic festival of Beltane. To celebrate the return of the Celtic sun god Bel, a procession follows the Obby Oss through Padstow adhering to some quite bizarre rituals along the way! Seeing really is believing, for a taster try this video or better still, book one of our lovely Cornish cottages for the bank holiday weekend and see for yourself what all the fuss is about – Mr Toad’s confident it’ll be like nothing you’ve seen before!
May 1st – 9th St Ives Literature Festival, Cornwall
Bookworms will be weaving their way to St Ives in May for the annual literature festival. Organised by local poet and artist, Bob Devereux, the festival offers daily host events that feature readings, talks, workshops and performance from a respected list of writers.
Successful children’s author Liz Kessler and hilarious writer, performer and serial blogger Anna Chen are two of the standout acts that will be in attendance.
To enjoy either Obby Oss Day or the Literature Festival, take a look at our fine selection of Cornish holiday cottages.
May 7th – 9th Dartmouth Music Festival, Devon
Dartmouth’s 13th annual music festival kicks off in two weeks and promises to be bigger and better than ever, with over 60 live performances from an eclectic mix of rock, folk, classical and jazz musicians!
Last year’s favourite The Joni Mitchell Project return, along with the hugely popular Dave Hankin Big Band in a line-up that promises to offer something for everyone.
Enjoy the festival with ease from any of our properties in Dartmouth, or indeed in the South Hams.
May 20th – 22nd Devon County Show, Devon
The best of Devon goes on show at Westpoint, just outside of Exeter, for three days on the second last weekend of May. The traditional family friendly atmosphere will be boosted this year by a new children’s activity feature, made even better on Saturday when accompanying children get free admission to the whole site!
There’s an array of local food and drink on display, making the show a fine excuse to indulge oneself on the very produce that makes Devon great! Visitors can also expect to see traditional entertainment, flower and garden displays, lots of fascinating livestock and a wide range of stalls selling a range of goods.

May 29th – June 6th Devon Wine Week,
Wine? Made in Devon?? We hear you ask, yes indeed ladies and gentlemen – not only is there wine being grown and produced in Devon, there’s also a dedicated week of the year to celebrate it. Our superior microclimate has led to an increased number of local vineyards, the majority of which will be participating in this year’s festival. Devon wines will be matched with local produce to create winning dishes at restaurants and pubs across the county. There’s a list of participants on the Devon Wine Week website above!
