Wild and ruggedly beautiful, The Lizard is a region of stunning beaches, tiny fishing villages and a history of smugglers and pirates.
Cut off from the rest of Cornwall by the Helford River and surrounded on three sides by wild churning seas, The Lizard is an area of untamed natural beauty steeped in tradition and folklore.
Uncrowded even in peak season you’ll discover fishing villages where local fleets of small boats venture out daily for crab and lobster, traditional pubs with open fires filled with folk music and singing, and plenty of stories about local smugglers and pirates. Combine this with some of the regions most beautiful beaches, ruggedly beautiful coastal scenery and abundant bird and wildlife, and you’ll find that holidays on The Lizard are Cornwall at its wild, unspoilt best.
The peninsula’s long coastline is dotted with a variety of stunning beaches from glorious wide sandy bays to tiny sheltered coves. The most famous is Kynance Cove with its rock stacks, white sands and turquoise seas but there are plenty of other, less busy beaches to try including pretty Coverack beach, Kennack Sands, St Winwaloe Cove and Mullion Cove to name a few. Linking the beaches is the South West Coast Path which hugs the Lizard’s coastline and provides some of Cornwall’s most stunning views and sightings of seals, dolphins and even whales.
Add to all this natural beauty some fun days out and attractions including The Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, Roskillys Ice Cream Farm and Flambards Amusement Park plus some excellent restaurants serving seafood fresh from the boats and you’ll see why the Lizard is one of our favourite Cornish holiday destinations.
Enjoy sailing and watersports courses at the sheltered Travassack Lake Watersports Centre, dedicated to bringing watersports to everyone regardless of ability or experience. Offering numerous activities and taster courses in sailing, kayaking and open water swimming plus an excellent café to refuel after a fun filled day out on the water.

A gem of a cove on the eastern side of Lizard Point where a few pretty cottages lead to a steep slipway still used to launch fishing boats. Although there’s only a small patch of sand at low tide, the water is crystal clear making it great for snorkelling and swimming or the simple pleasures of sitting in the sunshine on the rocks enjoying a picnic. There is a small free carpark half a mile up the road in Landwednack.
Owned by the National Trust, Kynance Cove is well known for its white sand, turquoise seas and spectacular rock stacks. As the tide goes out caves, islands and pools provide hours of entertainment for families. In peak season Kynance gets very busy with the car park full by mid morning so it’s worth arriving early. Small cafe and toilets available in summer months only.
A small shingle beach at the heart of the unspoilt fishing village of Cadgwith with good diving and snorkelling. There’s toilets and a cafe along with a small car park. No dogs Easter Day to 1st October.
Also known as Black Pool Cove this is a family friendly beach with plenty of sand, volleyball, rockpools and a café for refreshments. Great for surfing and swimming with lifeguards on duty during the summer months. No dogs between 1st July – 31st August.
Owned by the National Trust Gunwalloe is a gorgeous little cove with a good sized stretch of sand back by dunes with a historic church tucked away at the northern end. The beach can be quite exposed to Atlantic swells meaning there are surfable waves here but swimming out of season is less safe. However in the summer there is a lifeguard service making it good family beach.
