The small village of Bigbury is a great spot for holiday. It’s just a couple of miles from the beach and gives easy access to the surrounding South Hams and Dartmoor. It has a Post Office and shop, and keen golfers will be pleased at its proximity to the Bigbury Golf Club and its stunning views right across Bigbury Bay. The rest of the family will be thrilled by the sandy beach at nearby Bigbury on Sea. Across the estuary from Bantham, the beach is popular with surfers and if you’re tempted to take to the waves, you can book a lesson with the Discovery Surf School.
Nearby in St Anne's Chapel is a great family and dog-friendly pub, The Pickwick, serving good food and drinks with an Italian themed restaurant whilst those looking for sea views might prefer the Bay View Cafe in Bigbury on Sea which serves excellend fresh food all day and has a drinks license making it a great choice for evening meals. Opposite Bay View, perched off shore on Burgh Island, the Pilchard Inn is a firm favourite amongst visitors looking for a place to have a tipple in a traditional drinking tavern while the island's famous hotel makes for an exquisite destination for anyone looking for a special meal out. At low tide, Burgh Island is accessible by foot but at high tide you'll need to climb aboard the sea tractor for a ride unlike any other!
At low tide, cross the sand causeway to Burgh Island and climb to the top for a fantastic view of the bay, and if the tide is in, don’t panic! You can catch a ride back on the curious sea tractor. If you’ve worked up an appetite, there are cafes close to the beach or you can sample some local seafood at The Oyster Shack, on the back roads between Bigbury and Aveton Gifford.
