Guests cannot fail to appreciate the fantastic views on offer from the beautifully landscaped front garden, where they can relax on the paved patio, in the warmth of the cosy Shepherds Hut or sit in luxury and enjoy the peaceful surroundings from the comfort of the hot tub. In warmer months, bring the outside in and throw open the large patio doors, allowing an easy flow from the garden and patio into the spacious sitting room with its double height ceilings and mezzanine level. If there’s a chill in the air then choose from sitting by the warmth of the fire pit for a spot of stargazing, enjoy a drink or two in the comfort of the hot tub or retreat to the sitting room and cosy up by the log burner with a movie on the smart TV. If home cooking and entertaining is the order of the day then guests can make the most of the large fully-fitted ground floor kitchen/diner, with its huge exposed cross beams, breakfast bar seating and door to the sheltered rear garden with patio. Higher Barn Coombe is situated next to a working farm which brings all the events and charms of country life to your holiday.

Quiet and peaceful and well placed to explore everything the surrounding area has to offer, the village of Blackawton is a great base for your holiday.  This friendly and welcoming community enjoys the use of a thriving village shop providing fresh bread, local meat and seafood and organic vegetables along with a popular village pub, The George Inn,  serving great food and local ales.  Blackawton has also made a name for itself as the home of the weird and wonderful International Festival of Worm Charming! This quirky event held annually in early May always draws a crowd, come rain or shine, and is a real hit with the whole family.

If you’re after a wide choice of independent shops, cafes and restaurants head to the nearby coastal town of Dartmouth, which lies just 6 miles to the west of Blackawton. This historic maritime port is a lovely place to potter around, whether you're checking out the local art galleries or the browsing the stalls in the lively market. You can also embark on boat trips here, either up the River Dart, or out along the coast.

Blackawton is within easy reach of the coast. Beautiful Blackpool Sands is a short hop in the car where you'll find the Venus Cafe, beach shop and watersports hire.  Or alternatively head to the stunning 2km long Slapton Sands where you'll find crystal clear water, parking, ice creams and two excellent take aways at Torcross.  Flanking the beach is Slapton Ley, the region’s largest freshwater lake and National Nature Reserve. The Ley is bursting with bird life so if you fancy a change from the beach, take the nature trail and walk the circular route round to the quaint village of Slapton.

A holiday cottage in Blackawton is a lovely rural spot to base your South Devon break.

Good food. Friendly staff. Very convenient location over the road. Not too expensive.

March 2019

Great food; hit and miss service; unwelcoming “locals” crowding out the bar area and making it difficult to get to the bar to buy drinks.

August 2018

Great food, great wine and great service. Our whole experience was fantastic and I would visit again should we visit the area in the future.

August 2018

Charming old pub full of character. We only had a drink and didn't eat here - but they had a tremendous selection of fresh fish on the board when we visited.

July 2018

We spent 2 weeks in Slapton & the Queens Arms was by far the best local, along with the fabulous food, tasty beer and the friendly locals really made our holiday special.

July 2018

Limited choice on the menu and food quite expensive for the portion size but staff very accommodating and welcoming.

June 2018

Great fish and chips!

June 2018

Excellent food and service in a lovely building.

May 2018

A beautiful, historic and friendly pub set in a delightful location and with a lovely garden. The food is excellent and certainly not the standard 'pub food'. A children's menu is also available and is more than adequate. This is a relaxed, family run, village pub where children & dogs are welcome. We have visited many times and particularly like their Beer Festival in May.

April 2018

Great food and very friendly

April 2018

Really nice atmospheric pub with very friendly and accomodating staff. Although the food was very nice and we all enjoyed our meal I thought it was quite over priced.

December 2017

Fantastic meal !

September 2017

Menu was a little odd with some items coming with accompliments and some not. Also the bar bites on the main restaurant menu (not sure where they actually fit in along with small plates and also a bar chalk board) making the menu a bit disjointed. When phoned to book, we were asked had we dined there before, when we said we hadn't, we were told only the side room was available. Side room was fine but no cutlery or side plates on table (unlike the other rooms) and a bucket arrived to set our own! No other people in the side room and there was also tables free in the main rooms so didn't feel particularly welcome.

September 2017

A lovely pub that accommodated us at short notice for my daughters birthday and the food was superb.

August 2017

We had a wonderful meal here. The place was lovely and staff were very friendly and were very accommodating with our dog. Would come again.

July 2017

Less than average food and I fail to see how the children can play in the courtyard - it's tiny and the front leads onto the road. Impossible to pay the bill with the contactless system - you literally have to walk to a tiny area and hope the wifi picks it up.

July 2017

Loved this place. Fantastic ambience and food. Helpful friendly staff and locals.

June 2017

Great pub. Atmospheric and nice staff.

June 2017

old and atmospheric but not impressed by food or prices

Nice food, friendly staff - definately worth a visit!

May 2017

Always a warm welcome at the Queens where food is good quality and value for money. It is not fast food but definitely worth the wait on their busier days. The gardens are beautifully kept too. Just the place to stop off after a walk around the Ley or for a very pleasant evening. Highly recommended.

August 2023

Great food and really friendly and welcoming staff - super value for money too!

August 2023

Fabulous beer garden with view across the village. Super friendly bar staff

August 2023

Traditional pub with good 'pub grub' st reasonable prices. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice, multi-tierd beer garden. Only issue being that the garden has no cover, so on a weekday, when its raining and there's no where else to go, its massively over-subscribed and as they dont take bookings you can find yourself - quite literally - left out in the cold, with absolutely nowhere else to eat in Slapton. And the only shop shuts at 1pm...

August 2023

Went a ride to Slapton sands beach and visited this place had a nice snack and drinks.

July 2023

Lovely pub and lovely food , if u like traditional pub food this is the place to go, lovely beer garden aswell

June 2023

Booked a table and when we arrived it had been taken. Not acceptable.

May 2023

Always go to the Queens when on holiday in Slapton. Sandra, Kevin and Adam are great hosts and nothing is too much trouble. Great food, excellent quality and perfectly cooked, spoilt for choice. Very dog friendly, our Apollo loves going in ! Its a proper local and we will be down again later this year.

November 2021

They are closed on a Monday but big portions of food and delicious

November 2021

Great, popular dog friendly pub. Food was marvellous. Gets busy and queueing to get in. Go round the back to get your table if able to sit outside. Order at bar, be patient for your food, it’s worth the wait. Ate there three times, in the week we were on holiday. Staff and service was excellent. Highly recommend a visit

September 2021

Lovely gardens homemade food beer excellent friendly atmosphere nothing to fault excellent the walk back to Florence cottage was all of 50 yards!!!

September 2021

We tried a number of different meals which were all superbly cooked. The hospitality from the staff was also great and I would not hesitate to return.

September 2021

We loved our visits here, beautiful gardens to sit in, a wonderful choice of food, well priced and portioned. The vegetarian /vegan options were a welcome sight, as many pubs tend not to have such a wide variety. The staff could not do more, ample hand gel and safety signs to keep people aware that Covid is still out there. We will definitely be visiting again when we return to the area in October.

September 2021

Great pub but shut on Sat, Sun and Mon of our bank holiday weekend. Only open limited hours.

September 2021

Lovely food/menu. Don’t take bookings but staff advised us to arrive at 5:15 ready for 5:30 opening as people start to queue around this time - they were right, it was already busy at 5:15. (Peak season end of august) Not a lot of indoor seating, lots more outside on the pretty terraces

September 2021

Lovely and quirky! Excellent!

Lovely pub, very friendly service. Good food.

August 2021

Dog friendly pub frienfly do my staff snd nice garden to sit out in. Didn’t have good but it looked good

July 2021

Arrive early! Like every business, The queens Arms is dealing with increased custom; staff shortages and umpteen changes in guidance. They can only do so much and they’re doing their absolute best in the circumstances. A reduction in their menu choice would help them. That said, the menu is varied and the food ample and tasty. The pretty walled garden is a lovely place to enjoy an afternoon or evening. Staff are welcoming but rushed off their feet during busy periods. Be patient and arrive early otherwise expect a long wait on food. Great to have the bar open again.

July 2021

Decent pub grub in the heart of Slapton. Service slow, but it was very busy.

July 2021

April 2021

Fantastic local pub who have adapted to new restrictions really well. Their large, tiered garden is beautifully planted and makes for a lovely spot to enjoy a drink or a meal from their extensive menu. Children & dog friendly. Visited many times and never been disappointed.

April 2021

Great pub with great atmosphere and fab food. My only concern is that the tables are set too close to each other and not to COVID standards

May 2019

Poor quality food that you wait an unacceptable time for. A simple order of ham,egg & chips took over 30 minutes, when the meal finally came the egg was rock hard, a simple meal ruined.

April 2019

Good hearty meals. A little gem!

A lovely pub with good, well-cooked food, and friendly and welcoming staff.

May 2018

A friendly pub in a beautiful location. The menu suits all tastes and is particularly good for children. The terraced garden is well managed and is beautifully laid out and well planted.

April 2018

We go here every time we are in Devon even if we have to drive an hour to get here. We ate here 4 times this year and we are always delighted we the atmosphere, the staff always remember us and they are so dog friendly, one evening there were 9 dogs in. The food is delicious and huge portions, good selection of beers, ales and ciders too. Do not drive past here and make sure you ring an book a table, you do not want to miss out this absolute gem of a pub !! Can't wait till next year

October 2017

A lovely, welcoming pub, extremely friendly towards both people and dogs! The food was excellent and very reasonably priced and there were no less than FIVE local ciders available. Highly recommended.

October 2017

Great village pub,dog friendly and good food.

September 2017

A very busy pub in Slapton serving great food - go early if you can to avoid a wait.

September 2017

This pub was fantastic. The meals were basic but very tasty and hot. The land lady was very friendly and approachable. overall highly recommended.

September 2017

A lovely pub with with wonderful hosts and a great menu, we visited several times whilst on holiday

August 2017

We booked a table at The Queens Arms, the menu looked good and varied. It is a charming place, set in the attractive village of Slapton. However, the service leaves something to be desired ! We arrived at 6.50pm and the food did not arrive until an a hour later, without apology! The food was good, but the service, badly let this pub down, and we did not eat there again for the remainder of the holiday, and we would have done if the service had been better!. The saving grace was the food and the lovely barman, he was charming, shame about the rest.!

July 2017

Very lovely and friendly staff, however, disappointed with the food. My fish and chips were virtually inedible due to the fish being so overcooked and the frozen chips of a very poor quality. Sadly, we visited on our first night and therefore didn't eat there again. The garden however, was very beautiful so we did return there to sit in the garden and have a couple of drinks with our dogs.

June 2017

returned again and as usual everything from staff to food excellent. Will be back next year Thoroughly recommended

My daughter and granddaughter really enjoyed this park and was amazed how big it was and how many attractions it had.

Don't expect Alton Towers- but if you want a great place to spend the day and keep the kids entertained, then this is the best there is in South Devon. I'd say better for 7-13s than anything over....

March 2017

No matter what the weather is you'll have a day of fun. Only downside is that if your 7 year old is a bit tall for their age they will be charged an adult ticket price

Blackpool Sands
Blackpool Sands
(3 miles)

(35)

Between Dartmouth and Slapton, Blackpool Sands is a beautiful shingle bay on the South West Coast Path, surrounded by evergreens and pine trees. It really is a treasure of a beach to visit while you’re in the area. Award-winning, the privately owned, blue flag beach boasts a sense of being in the Mediterranean on a good day in the summer, although a good jumper never goes amiss in this part of the world! You will no doubt not be surprised to hear that it is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, however it also boasts ample facilities and things to do. There are showers, toilets and disabled facilities, as well as paddle board, kayak and wetsuit hire available for those wishing to earn their visit to The Venus Beach Café, where light bites and refreshments are served. The Venus Shop also sells all the bits and pieces you might want for fun and games on the beach if you have forgotten them or are in need of extra buckets and spades. The water at Blackpool Sands is known for being clean and clear and tested by the Environment Agency, and lifeguards are on hand in the summer (July to September) so there’s every reason to pop in for a dip. However, dogs are not allowed on the beach in the high season (12th March to 30th October) so keep the walking for the cooler months. There is parking available at the beach with seasonal charges, and you can find out more information on those from the Blackpool Sands information line on 01803 771800. This beach is easy to get to and quite literally fun and games for the whole family, as well as a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year to take in the view!

Looks a lovely beach but unfortunately no dogs allowed at all

June 2023

Visited Blackpool sands on our honeymoon 27 years ago and have enjoyed it on both occasions. A lovely clean beach with a very nice restaurant/cafe. We walked to the beach and got the local bus back up to Stoke Fleming.

May 2023

we love this beach always clean good parking clean facilities and good cafe.

September 2022

We did go to this beach, couldn’t go in the sea as it was so rough, was beautiful though. No sand, but still very nice.

September 2022

Beautiful beach; very blue water. It’s more a pebbly rather than a sandy beach, love it all the same. It’s clean and there are lifeguards in the summer months which is when we visited. The toilets were clean and not far from the beach; no queues for the toilet either. Parking can be a bit pricey at £9 for the whole day of you come in the morning but didn’t mind it. You pay less though if you come in the afternoon. The is a little sandpit area for a any kids who want to play in sand

September 2022

It is a really beautiful beach although, despite its name, it is not a sandy beach, however our son and grandson were keen on paddle boarding. They made a special visit for this and were told that the paddleboard facilities were closed but to come the following day when the facilities were still closed! Considering that this was during the height of the holiday season, my son was a bit put out having made two wasted trips.

August 2022

A lovely beach, stunning veiw as you drive down towards it. Very clean with clear water.

August 2022

Lovely clean beach although very quiet. There was a small charge for parking.

April 2022

No sand! Very clean and scenic, but very disappointing if you want to run around on sand

August 2021

Lovely pretty beach with good facilities.

June 2021

Very large shingle beach, charges for parking at a set fee no matter how long your visit. Can pay by card for parking as well as cash.

May 2021

Great beach

November 2020

Lovely sandy beach. Parked here (£2) whilst doing a circular walk and then returned for a walk along the beach.

November 2020

Dogs allowed on beach out of season, a bracing walk with coffee and millionaire shortbread at the cafe to finish.

October 2020

Great beach really beautiful , even in the rain, as the Venus café is right on the beach and is warm, dry and serves great food and drinks at reasonable prices.

October 2019

One of our favourite beaches, in a beautiful setting. Plenty of car parking and plenty of room on the beach, even on a busy day. The sea is clean and clear and the facilities are excellent (nice to have changing rooms). Thoroughly recommend this beach.

October 2019

Beautiful stretch of shingle beach nestled between steep hills at either end. Excellent facilities including one of the best beach cafes we've ever visited.

September 2019

We had a wonderful day at Blackpool sands. A shingle beach within a lovely cove, it was clean and felt safe for the children to swim in the water (which was also sparkling). The beach is privately run, so the carpark fee was a bit stiff (£8 for the day), however the upside of this was a beautifully clean beach with lots of amenities, including rental of SUPs and other water equipment, a great cafe, and really clean loos. On a busy day you would need to arrive before lunchtime, or the carpark will shut, but this also means that the beach didn't feel crowded at all.

September 2019

Parking charge between £3 - £8 depending on time of year, Also food good but e.g. Hawaiian Prawns (£9) consisted of 5 prawns. Not good value for money.

October 2018

Lovely beach, not sandy but the stones are okay. Good food, beverages, coast guards, Nice view and not so cowded

August 2018

Lovely clean beach in super location along coastal road. Great place to visit.

May 2018

August 2017

Beautiful location but shame it a shingle beach and not sandy. Also very disappointed with the £8 fee to park the car .

August 2017

Perfect venue for a sunny day! Secluded beach which is clean and tidy, with a cafe, snack bar and shop, beach equipment hire too

July 2017

The cost of the parking steep

Slapton Sands
Slapton Sands
(4 miles)

(29)

A long stretch of beach with spectacular views of the sea stretching into the distance, Slapton Sands is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and for good reason. Adjacent to Slapton Ley, a freshwater lake that’s home to an abundance of wildlife and one of the many reasons people come to visit the area, the beach has a history of welcoming families in the summer for long days in the sunshine, building sandcastles, surfing, windsurfing and kayaking. It’s amazing to believe that this peaceful corner of South Devon has its place in military history as in 1943 the beach was taken over by allied forces to use as a rehearsal area for the D-Day landings. However, live ammunition and poor visibility ended in the deaths of more than 700 servicemen, so today there is a stone monument in place for Operation Tiger, as it was called, as well as a Sherman Tank at nearby Torcross. On a more current note, there is a beachside café at Slapton Sands for teas, coffees and other light bites, and there are also toilets nearby. The beach has disabled access, and also allows dogs throughout the year, so it really is fun for everyone and very easy to get to. There is parking nearby and in the summer months from May to September there is lifeguard cover. Last, but not least, a small collection of pubs reside in Torcross for those who are feeling peckish after a long day in the fresh air, or if you have been for a nice walk along the sand!

Our dog loved this beach and the kiosk cafe was a great addition, especially as it was very cold and windy. Shame about the parking costs.

April 2024

Fab stretch of beach - quite a trek from one end to another, you’ll need a drink from the coffee van at Pilchard Cove or cafes in Torcross! Over the hill from Torcross to bee sands has an amazing view

August 2023

A stunning coastline well worth a visit. If you drive along the coast road from Dartmouth the views are incredible. Slapton Sands is a shingle beach and dog friendly. If the first car park is busy continue further on and the next one is usually quieter, payment required.

July 2023

Visited here out of respect for those who practiced the D-Day landings on this beach. If venturing doen to the sea from the car park please note it was hard getting back up as you sink into the stones, so not so good for those with any mobility issues.

July 2023

Beautiful pebbly beach, water was so clear!

June 2023

Lovely beach with clear blue sea, very small shingle so no good if u have children who want to build a sand castle, also water gets deep very quickly

June 2023

Beautiful quiet unspoilt beach

April 2023

Really interesting history. Great for the children to link back to a Michael Morpurgo story too.

April 2022

loved it

November 2021

Long pebbly beach. Parking right on the front.

September 2021

We visited on a very overcast day with a keen wind blowing, so we did not see the sands at their best. We walked into Slapton and had tea in the church and found a pleasant footpath back to the beach car park, which ran past the nature reserve at Slapton Ley.

September 2021

A beautiful, gentle walk along the side of the nature reserve, if you make it to the turn off to go into Slapton, there is a lovely pub up there, the Queens Arms great gardens, food and friendly staff.

September 2021

Absolutely stunning stretch of beach (non-sandy which we prefer) with miles of space. Beautiful for early morning dog walks with a coffee at the end from the 'cafe on the beach' at Strete Gate picnic area.

May 2021

Walked along the beach and round the Nature reserve whilst staying in Slapton village. Lovely long shingle beach - our dog loved it. Lovely circular walk through the medieval village and back through the Nature reserve and along the beach.

November 2020

Ample parking, nice walk along the beach.

October 2020

Beautiful beach with a stunning sunrise. The sound of the sea on the pebbles is very relaxing. Really clean . No rubbish . Beautiful walks nearby. Nice cafe and restaurants. Dog friendly too.

September 2020

We have had lovely walks along Clapton and the views are stunning

February 2020

If you love the sound of the waves on pebbles this has to be one of the best beaches in the world !

April 2019

A totally unspoilt stretch of beach with wild flowers and wonderfully coloured rocks. We were lucky to be staying on a stones throw away and spent a few happy hours there with our dog watching the locals beach fishing in the evenings - bliss!

August 2018

Lovely walking -

June 2018

Lovely walk for wild flowers, bird watching sea views

May 2018

Clean beach.No plastic.

May 2018

This is certainly a lovely beach and so little rubbish.

April 2018

Really interesting area and good walks along the coast and by the Ley. Generous provision of toilets and parking and a number of places to eat. Would particularly recommend The Start Bay Inn, The Boathouse and Seabreeze Cafe at Torcross. Also very handy that there is a bus should you want to walk one way and get a bus back. Very beautiful and peaceful.

October 2017

Beautiful beach right across from our Cottage

September 2017

Wonderful nature reserve with well signposted walks.

September 2017

Beautiful stretch of shingle beach - dogs allowed all year. Not many facilities - we went to the Strete end of the beach as there is a great little coffee hut there - great coffee and friendly staff.

September 2017

Clapton Sands is beautiful. The rocks are the most beautiful colours, wild flowers abound on the beach, the views in either direction are stunning and it is rarely over crowded. One of the most wonderful areas in the U.K.

May 2017

Great place for a walk along the beach and had some great events for children at Easter. Great fish and chips in the pub at the end on Torcross

Beesands
Beesands
(6 miles)

(45)

Close to Kingsbridge and a favourite amongst residents and holiday makers in the South West, Beesands is a wonderful mile-long shingle beach surrounded by fields and a freshwater lake. You get a real flavour of the West Country here with fresh crab sandwiches for sale nearby and lots of Devon holiday cottages within walking distance to make it really convenient. The beach has won awards from the Marine Conservation Society as well as having The Blue Flag marker to attest to its excellence and high standards, so families and swimmers can be reassured. The beach is popular for surfing and body boarding amongst other water sports including fishing, so tackle is on sale close by. You can pick up light bites at nearby cafes as and when you’re ready, making it easy to spend the whole day running around on the sand and enjoying your seaside holiday to the max. Beesands is very much a beach for everyone thanks to its convenient location, easy and free road parking along most of the beach, level access, and the toilets, cafes and pubs close by. Dogs are also welcome on the beach throughout the year so the whole family can enjoy it!

Beesands is a lovely place, the beach was Great, definitely worth a visit.

September 2023

Stunning beach, fantastic sunset.

August 2023

Great place for an evening drink - beach not very suitable for children .

August 2023

We stayed for a week in a house opposite the beach in Beesands. The beach is a pebble beach and is very quiet. There is no lifeguard but there are locals there everyday with their boats so I am sure they would let you know if the conditions were unsafe. There is a fish and chip shop/restaurant and 1 pub restaurant - both serving lovely food and offer very friendly service. There is very little nearby so you do need a car to get around. Nearest supermarket was around 20-30 minute car ride away. The kids went in the sea almost every day and had the best time! They wore full wetsuits and water shoes which I thoroughly recommend as it is a pebble beach, and the kids got stung by a jelly fish when they paddled without wetsuits. When the tide was in, or coming in, the kids felt safer as they were in their depth. When the tide is out, there is a ledge which drops quite sharply. I am not a fan of sand so sitting on my camping chair on the pebble beach was bliss for me. We even spotted seals on most days! The locals with their boats didn't seem too friendly but we loved watching them take their boats out and bring them back in again. It was fascinating. I would have loved to ask them more about the beach, tides and coastal erosion but they didn't seem very approachable. However, I do appreciate that they must find tourists a little irritating. I would absolutely go back to Beesands for a holiday. It is my idea of blissful relaxation.

August 2023

Friendly, quiet location and shingle beach. Nice beach walk to Torcross at low tide. Pub/restaurant and Britannia restaurant and takeaway were very good. Very narrow roads to Beesands from turning off main road, but enjoyable holiday

June 2023

Just lovely. Excellent food at Britannia on the beach and they also have an excellent takeaway

May 2023

August 2022

Pleasant place to visit

July 2022

Absolute delight to stay in this quiet little seaside village! Mostly holiday let properties nowadays but still some locals around to talk to about the history of the area. The village is extremely clean including the beach considering it is all dog friendly! Popular with local & travelling anglers mainly at weekends I also fished to some degree every day of our stay. We will be going back soon!

July 2022

Had a lovely walk. Beautiful setting.

June 2022

lovely location, enjoyed many morning walks along the beach, and caught 14 mackerel. The road access is not the best, drive slowly, you cannot do anything else, and hey who's in a rush on holiday

May 2022

Loved Beesands, we stayed in one of the cottages for a week and enjoyed the peace and quiet and strolling along the beach, very dog friendly to!

May 2022

September 2021

14 Beesands is a great property. About 10 feet away from the beach/ sea wall. Pub 20 paces away. Lovely walks on the doorstep. Fabulous sunsets and seals swimming past. Who could ask for more. Well equipped cottage, very comfy beds cosy and warm

October 2020

The most wonderful little fishing village- narrow lanes on approach so drive carefully- but it's worth it. Lovely shingle beach and stunning views across Start Bay. Two great eateries- Britannia and The Cricket Inn are worth a visit. Beesands is just beautiful, I love it there.

September 2020

Amazing location right on the beach. We spent a week in Beesands and found the property to be perfect for our big group - plenty of space for everyone to relax and a very well appointed kitchen. Would highly recommend.

September 2020

January 2020

Beautiful relaxing place to spend time.

November 2019

Lovely little beach, nice quiet location and free parking a bonus

August 2019

Worth the uphill/downhill walk along the coast path. Lovely spot.

August 2019

Easy to park, good food options. plenty of room for everyone.

August 2019

I love Beesands . The only sad thing is even more people have found out about it, 10 years since my last visit. Sadly the sea has removed the road handy for parking and is gradually eroding the cliff edges. Not as quiet as it used to be but the attractions of two nice eating places have probably increased the footfall.

June 2019

It’s a new look on the outside but the food very much of the same high quality at the Britannia in Beesands. The new ‘shack’ doesn’t really do it justice with a completely renovated contemporary dining room in keeping with the seaside location and beach hut vibe with excellent views of the bay. There seems to be loads more space too and the higher ceiling gives light to the treats being served from the kitchen. Dave and the team in the kitchen maintain their high standards of food preparation and making dishes that look and taste fantastic, the front of house team are equally as attentive making a great relaxed dining experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Britannia so come back if you have been before and see the changes or give it a go if you never have been. ????????

June 2019

I've been coming to Beesands since I was 2 years old (61 now!). Not every year since adulthood but still can't stay away. Its an ideal location for those who want to get away from it all. Its close enough to Kingsbridge and within easy reach of Dartmouth , Salcombe and Brixham. The locals are very friendly and will always be up for a chat. Its almost tempting to keep this little coastal secret to myself!

October 2018

Bit scary driving down to the beach due to the narrow road but worth it when you got there. Had fish and chips and ate them on the tables that were provided while looking out to sea.

September 2018

Had a wonderful meal in the beach cafe .

July 2018

We've been coming to this general area for over 20 years now and have stayed in many of the surrounding villages . This was the first time we'd stayed in Beesands - but we had walked through it on our coastal walks on many, many occasions. We both loved the peaceful charm of the place - secluded , tranquil and away from it all . But unlike Hallsands (next village along) , it does have two places where you can eat ( The cricket Inn and the Britannia0)and they are both very good . The beach is great - shingle - but really uncrowded in June . ( We were lucky with the weather) and on a clear, sunny day - it is quite magical. ( What a shame the water is so freezing cold !!) This stretch of coastline is stunning - and even if you do no other walks - walk over to Hallsands and read about the old village that was washed away in January 1917 - or just drink in the stunning views . I love this part of Devon and it never fails to take my breath away when you stand on the coast path near the lighthouse and look back across Start Bay to Hallsands , Beesands , Torr Cross , and over towards Dartmouth. Wonderful.

June 2018

Beautiful stoney beach with views of Start Point Lighthouse. Tasty fish and chips available, popular pub and public toilets.

June 2018

Lovely place, good food and very dog friendly :-)

March 2018

Britannia Fish - Great fish - always fresh and lovely family run business. A must for anyone who likes eating good fish!

May 2017

North Hallsands
North Hallsands
(7 miles)

(7)

A quiet beach of fine shingle with a reed bed providing the backdrop, North Hallsands is a picturesque place to visit for anyone staying in one of our holiday cottages in Devon. The beach is divided into north and south, and it’s about nine miles from Kingsbridge facing towards Start Bay. There is level access to the sand from North Hallsands car park, although it is small so keep that in mind in busier months, although there’s also another small car park five minutes away for South Hallsands. You might want to note that there aren’t any facilities or toilets close to the beach, which does mean that it’s fantastically peaceful and an experience that’s all about the natural environment, which ultimately is what we all love about a Devon break! For those bringing their four legged friends with them, the beach is completely dog friendly, welcoming them all year round, so just don’t get carried away with all that fun in the sand and get cut off by the tide in all the excitement. The sand stretches a fair distance at low tide and we wouldn’t want you to get wet!

Great little beach, my furry companion had the best time here. She couldn't contain her excitement. Amazing for us both watching and listening to the sounds of the sea.

Lovely walk from Beesands. Takes about half an hour.

lovely beach, I walked through there twice on my way along the coast path, really peaceful, the lost fishermans village is also worth visiting just a short walk from the beach

Great walk up to Hallsands, interesting piece of history.

Lovely little place, great to take a picnic as no facilities but that's part of its charm. Wonderful views of Start Bay and a great base to walk to Start Point and beyond or to Beesands. Well worth a visit.

Gorgeous beach, but be careful if you have a dog that likes to run as our Border Collie got very sore paws on the pebbles.

Broadsands Beach
(8 miles)

In between Brixham and Paignton, this long, sandy beach is a popular spot with families, thanks to its sheltered waters, year-round facilities and easy parking. The Blue Flag beach is perfect for making sandcastles and searching for wildlife in the rockpools. There are toilets, and two places to get ice creams, coffees and soft drinks. What’s more, the car park is right by the beach, so there’s no need to lug your provisions a long way. Behind the pretty row of colourful beach huts, there’s a large grassy area, so don’t forget to pack a ball or rounders bat to keep the whole family entertained. Broadsands Beach is a popular dog walking spot throughout autumn and winter, but there is a seasonal dog ban during the summer months (1st May - 30th September).
