It has an open fireplace which makes it a cosy winter retreat.  The village has a Post Office & general store and a 14th century Church all within easy walking distance, some superb pubs and eateries within a short drive. Loddiswell is surrounded by unspoilt rolling countryside with several interesting walks, one of the most notable being along the old Great Western Railway’s Primrose Line following the River Avon, closed  in 1963. A license can be obtained for fishing from the Post Office. Nearby Kingsbridge offers a wide choice of shopping facilities with a good range of specialist shops and supermarkets on the outskirts of the town. The village is also within easy reach of the beautiful coastline, beaches and estuaries of the South Hams and Dartmoor National Park is only a 25 minute drive away.

“We have had a lovely week once again - here last year. Thank you for such a well equipped cottage.” The Nevilles.

“Warm, well equipped and charming cottage in a beautiful village conveniently located for all the best beaches...” The Biggs family.

“Loved the cottage, very well equipped, felt like home. A great part of the country, beautiful countryside, we had some great walks, would love to come again.” The McMinn family.

Tiled entrance hallway. Cosy lounge with two sofas and an armchair, Smart TV and separate DVD player, open fireplace.
Well equipped kitchen/diner with electric cooker, fridge with ice box, microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer and dining area with table and seating for five. Door from the kitchen leads to the rear enclosed garden.
Stairs up to first floor. Bedroom 1: Double bedroom with 4ft 6in double bed, hanging closet and dressing table.
Bedroom 2: Twin bedroom with two 2ft 6in beds, wardrobe, bedside drawers.
Bedroom 3:  Single bedroom with 3ft bed and dressing table.
Bathroom with bath with power shower over and also hand held shower, hand basin, WC, shaver point and electric towel rail.

There is a well kept, enclosed walled garden accessed from the kitchen, with a mixture of lawn and paving and equipped with garden furniture. There is an open shed area idea for storage of beach and sports equipment.

The village of Loddiswell is set in the heart of the rolling South Hams countryside, and is served by a mini supermarket, Post Office and a pub. It is close to the elegant town of Modbury but closer still to a larger range of shops, restaurants, pubs and small cinema in the bustling market town of Kingsbridge, just 10 minutes’ drive away.

Well-situated for both the wild beauty of Dartmoor as well as the stunning South Devon coastline, there are numerous outstanding beaches within easy reach, including the surfer’s favourites, Bantham and Bigbury-on-Sea, and family and dog-friendly Thurlestone and Hope Cove.

Loddiswell is a particularly good base for a walking holiday, with the nearby South West Coast Path to explore plus some fantastic footpaths around the village including along the old, disused Great Western Railway track. We recommend stopping off for refreshments at the Avon Mill Garden Centre on your way past. Within a couple of miles of the village, you will also find the Devon Wildlife Trust’s nature reserve, Andrew’s Wood, or you can take a stroll around the remains of the Iron Age fort at Blackdown Rings. This area has fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding countryside so makes a picturesque spot for a picnic.

A holiday cottage in Loddiswell offers the perfect location for exploring the picturesque South Hams countryside, Dartmoor, and the South West coast at your leisure.

Off road parking for two cars in front of the cottage.

  • Included: Bed linen (no towels),  initial supply of logs & coal (in winter), heating (night storage) and electricity.
  • Pets: One well behaved pet welcome. Pet Charge: £30.00 per pet per week
  • Telephone: No telephone, mobile reception mixed, O2 fair.
  • Local Facilities: Beach at Bantham 6 miles. Several other sandy south coast beaches within 10 mile radius, easily accessible by car. Village Post Office and shop 200 yards. Kingsbridge with all facilities 3 miles. Salcombe 9 miles.

Lovely garden centre with good cafe. Does get busy at lunch time.

July 2022

Enjoyed our visits here, very nice, if a little expensive.

April 2022

Excellent catering, but let down by the range of plants. Perhaps due to the time of year ( early October and the effects of the pandemic ). Interesting range of crafts and gifts to browse.

Great food in the cafe and interesting craft shops to explore.

July 2021

Fantastic garden centre, and food was great. However needed to show clearer instructions on how to order.

July 2021

Lovely setting and friendly staff but the cafe did not cater well for vegans. Charged extra for jam on a teacake even though they had no dairy free spread to replace the butter. The lunches looked like they might be more vegan friendly and they are dog friendly though which is good

June 2021

Fantastic.

Always a pleasure to visit here, cafe is fab!

May 2021

Slightly underwhelmed overall. Gallery was good. Covid restrictions did not help the cafe experience. Plants overpriced and limited.

Great outdoor space, observing the C-19 regulations. Good menu. Soup was lovely but we didnt like the wooden spoons so took our own 2nd visit.

Located in a lovely area. Reminiscent of other multi purpose garden centres although on a smaller scale. Cafe does very good scones.

May 2017

An upmarket garden centre with associated other 'outlets'. A very pleasant cash extraction facility, should you have an upmarket garden and/or excess cash.

April 2017

Nice food, very busy when we went and had to queue for a while. Nice conservatory room, definitely a good place for breakfasts or afternoon tea.

October 2020

Excellent quality and range of food.

October 2020

One of the locals on the Fallapit Estate recommended that we take advantage of Fish and Chip supper offered during Covid times. Order on a Tuesday and then pick it up Wednesday evening freshly cooked - absolutely brilliant!

October 2020

Great selection of local beers, fab deli counter (highly recommend picking up some of their pasties on the way to the beach), veg and butchers counter. Used a number of times during our stay - only downside is that we couldnt find a safe (i.e non road) way to walk there,

August 2020

We visited Aune Valley Farm Shop on a couple of occasions as we were based in Loddiswell. Very clean and tidy and lovely meats and pies. We tried the pork chops and pasties and they were absolutely delicious. Well worth a visit.

June 2019

We bought the most delicious rib of beef and their own Christmas pudding which is the best we have ever tasted. Friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend.

Went for breakfast as a holiday treat. Lovely views, we were able to sit outdoors as the weather was so lovely. The breakfast was plentiful and of very high quality. Great coffee too.

July 2018

Excellent

July 2018

If you are staying anywhere nearby, absolutely visit this deli, butcher and cafe. The butcher (being a meat company) is first class, the deli is excellent and best of all - the cafe is fantastic - the best breakfast I think I have ever had (the big butchers), which had everything and the very best quality and best tasting ingredients. Do not miss this amazing treat!

May 2018

Super little find, enjoyed the ambience. Location out of the way not the easiest place to find but worth the effort.

October 2017

An absolute gem of a place. We had 2 cream teas here and also lunch and cakes. Food was superb on all occasions, dog friendly and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Well worth a visit you will not be disappointed

October 2017

Lovely cream teas and the Farm Shop has excellent produce. Highly recommended.

July 2017

A superb breakfast - very friendly staff - excellent view - reasonable prices. And the farm shop is small but decently stocked and alongside what I guess (I'm vegetarian) is an excellent butcher's. Go there!

April 2017

Lovely food, good views

April 2017

Popped in here for lunch and loved it. Quite a small cafe but brilliant views and really generous portions. Would defintiely recommend.

June 2023

More style than substance - looks great but hardly any cider, very disappointing as expected to find lots of different varieties. But mainly a shop selling nice blankets and throws with a small cafe. Lovely outdoor space for tea and cake but that’s not why we went there hence the low score.

Leas Foot Sands
Leas Foot Sands
(5 miles)

(8)

A small sandy beach belonging to Thurlestone Golf Club, those who have been on regular Devon weekend breaks and holidays will have seen this beach change somewhat in recent years thanks to storm damage, but the evolving landscape merely adds to its charm. A 200-metre walk down a paved path from the golf club and its car park and you find yourself heading down a gentle slope onto the sand, with the option of enjoying the beach in its own right or walking along the coast in either direction towards Bantham or South Milton Sands. Dogs are allowed here at any time, which of course adds to the appeal for walkers, and if you fancy stopping somewhere for lunch then Thurlestone village nearby is home to a charming pub that’s cryptically named The Village Inn, which is suitable for the whole family and wonderfully cosy in the winter months. Alternatively head to the Beachhouse café at South Milton for lunches and evenings meals with a view of the sunset, or cups of tea and brownies from the Gastrobus at Bantham. It is one of the area’s quieter beaches, often acting as a place to wander past rather than one to spend the whole day on, but given its easy access and the proximity of the car park, and the golf club, it’s a delightful little spot in which to while away the afternoon.

September 2021

We found this to be a very pleasant spot for a coffee. The sands were pristine.

Lovely beach for swimming and supping

June 2021

a fabulous beach, dog and heart friendly

December 2020

We like this beach. We walk to it from the property we stay in in Thurlestone. It's always quiet. There are lovely views out to sea and you really feel close to nature when swimming. There is good sand, some rocks on either side of the beach, it's easy to access and we usually walk home along the coast path for more lovely views.

August 2019

Great quiet beach with wonderful coastal walk alongside gold course round to Bantham. Parked free in field adjacent to golf club, although we understand they will be charging for parking soon. Only downside was that the public toilets were closed - we went October 2018.

November 2018

This is possibly the best beach in the whole of England

July 2017

A very nice beach with quite a lot of sand at times. So easy to access, even managed to get both (octogenarian) parents to it and my mother in the sea for a paddle!

July 2017

Challaborough Bay
Challaborough Bay
(6 miles)

(6)

Close to Kingsbridge, Challaborough Bay is a sandy beach in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that’s perfect for enjoying all the seaside activities nature can afford. At low tide the beach is ideal for visiting families to build sandcastles and explore the rock pools, while the swells and shore breaks also attract surfers and bodyboarders. There are some beautiful walks along the coast path that surrounds it, heading towards Bigbury on Sea in particular. Making it an ideal spot to spend the day, the beach has toilets, a café and a beach shop close by, although access is via steps and small paths so accessibility isn’t wheelchair friendly. There is a car park but it’s rather small, so it’s good to know that a 15-minute walk to Bigbury will see ample parking available – seasonal charges apply so remember to bring cash with you. While four legged friends are welcome in the winter, they are not allowed on the beach between May and September, so do plan their walks with that in mind. It’s a lovely spot along the coast path to bring them to, you can even beach hop from one to the next!

Cempletely different atmosphere to the rest of the South Hams. Part of a beautiful coastline set amidst class South Hams countryside.

June 2023

Good if you’re staying all day with children but expensive to park, only whole day parking not good if you don’t want to stay a long tome

April 2022

I didn't like it here. I found it a bit tacky. Also on my walk I popped into the Cafe in the morning but had missed their breakfast time which ended at 11.30 and I was there at 11.34 so they refused to serve me toast with coffee! So I walked out! A guy behind me in the queue was left open mouthed and said if I go on to Bigbury I'll get it anytime I want!

September 2021

Beautiful place to watch the sunset. Good fish and chips on the beach in the evening. Wouldn’t spend the day there as holiday park attached and the beach was left absolutely covered in rubbish by the guests ????

September 2019

Lovely, & just a short walk from Bigbury on Sea car park. It also has a fantastic chip shop that does gluten free fish & chips!

August 2019

Lovely beach

April 2017

Bantham Beach
Bantham Beach
(6 miles)

(15)

At the mouth of the Avon River, Bantham beach is easy to reach from Salcombe, Kingsbridge and our other favourite holiday home locations, as well as being a beautiful area to stay in its own right. The beach looks out over Bigbury Bay and offers a wonderful view of Burgh Island, which is famous for its art deco hotel of the same name that has hosted Agatha Christie and Noel Coward amongst its illustrious guests an can reach by sea tractor. Bantham beach has a popular reputation amongst both novice and advanced surfers, and as such there are lessons available from the Bantham Surfing Academy, which operates from the beach. They also offer other water sports including paddle boarding, and a day pottering up the Avon River on one of those when the tide is right, is a day well spent. When the tide is out at Bantham the sandy beach reveals rock pools and great swathes of space so you can happily set up a picnic and stay there for the whole day. If the mood strikes, why not walk along the coast path towards Thurlestone around the corner, and South Milton Sands beyond that, particularly as it’s also a popular beach for dog owners? Just keep in mind that from 1st May until 30th September restrictions apply, so look out for signposts with more information. If you’re spending the whole day on the beach it’s worth popping to the Gastrobus which is open seasonally in the car park, offering everything from freshly made baps to coffees, teas and cakes, or for a larger meal head the short walking distance to The Sloop Inn gastropub. There is plenty of parking available by Bantham, with charges from £3.50 per day, so make sure you have change on you as it’s a bit tricky to find parking otherwise. There are toilets in the car park, and from May to October from 10am until 6pm there is also lifeguard cover on the beach. All in, Bantham has something to offer everyone throughout the year and is one of many beautiful locations to spend time while you’re in South Devon.

June 2023

Worth the £4.50 to park for the afternoon plenty of walking and rock pools to explore, a good wide sandy beach for people with children

April 2022

Great beach particularly at low tide

October 2021

The most extaordinary place and great for kids. Lots to see and do - great sand and very shallow waters so very safe. if you get a chance to go on the water tractor that is great.. and do visit the Pub on the island. Great day out.

August 2021

A lovely beach. £6.50 to park for the day - it's a private estate - but a shame that the owners aren't prepared to put some of the money towards improvements to the toilets - one small sink in each of the men's & women's toilets with a malfunctioning tap is not enough for a beach full of people, children & dogs!

August 2019

Lovely beach for gentle surfing with ice creams, coffee, snacks and pizzas close to the car park.

July 2019

Glorious especially at low tide.

April 2019

Best beach in the South Hams.

July 2018

Can get busy with surfers, but a beautiful place with a wide sandy beach. Lots of room for everyone.

April 2018

Bigbury on Sea
Bigbury on Sea
(6 miles)

(36)

It won’t come as a surprise to anyone who has visited that Bigbury on Sea is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Perfect for sand castles and rock pooling as well as tucking into lengthy summer picnics, it is an unusual beach to visit because the tide comes in from both sides. As a result, it is an endless source of fascination for children, not least for its sea tractor which provides transport from one end of the beach to the other in order to reach Burgh Island. Burgh Island is connected to mainland England by the beach alone, it’s home to the famous art deco Burgh Island Hotel which has hosted Agatha Christie and Noel Coward since its incarnation in 1929, and has even made an appearance in the TV adaptation of Christie’s Poirot. On a practical note there is on-site parking available close to the beach with daily charges from £3.50. Toilets and shower facilities with disabled access are also nearby, and lifeguards are present from May to September. The Venus café offers teas, coffees and other refreshments including the ice creams that are of such fundamental importance for a day at the beach. Meanwhile, dog lovers will be pleased to know that four legged friends are welcome at Bigbury on Sea, but restrictions apply from 1st May until 30th September. Ultimately, Bigbury on Sea is a supremely beautiful location and fun family day out with abundant wildlife to enjoy and coastal footpaths to explore as well, making it a wonderful destination to visit on holiday in Devon, no matter what time of the year it is.

A tranquil, enchanting destination for families and dogs alike. Away from the hustle and bustle , outstanding views, fabulous beach for walkers and bathers.

August 2021

Amazing beach and in our opinion the best in the area. Great cafe and surf shop where we hired SUPs. Visited most days and was always impressed. Visit in the evening for a beautiful sunset too. Walking over to the island and exploring there is also worth it.

August 2021

Clean and safe

July 2021

A beautiful location, and just the right amount of facilities. The roads to Bigbury can sometimes be a challenge due to narrowness, but it's worth it when you get here.

June 2021

What a really stunning beach, well worth the trip round the estuary from Noss Mayo. Gorgeous sand and very dog friendly. Worth having a coffee at the Pilchard Inn on Burgh Island.

May 2021

Beautiful location, lovely large sandy beach. If you go across to Burgh Island when the tide is out be warned the prices at Pilchard's Inn are extortionate!

May 2021

We have visited Bigbury and Burgh Island over many years, and it never disappoints; the picturesque environment does much to enhance the holiday atmosphere, and meets the needs of a relaxed holiday. This year, we enjoyed the wonderful experience of cream tea and cocktails at the famous hotel at a very reasonable price; we booked in advance, were driven to the entrance via the hotel transport, and sea tractor back - perfect afternoon!

September 2019

Bigbury bay which I have visited since a child and an amazing beach for all the family.

August 2019

Wonderful - with greats loos & cafes. The Beach Barista coffee is also great!

August 2019

Really lovely sandy beach, perfect for young families as the water stays shallow and the dog can join you in certain areas too, so makes for an all round great day out!

July 2019

Excellent beach for small children. Very clean. The sea tractor gave it an added dimension. Our 2 year old granddaughter loved riding on it!

June 2019

Fab, sand spit beach, covered at high tide, access to Burgh island. An absolute must.

July 2018

Gorgeous beach - very large and areas suitable for dogs. Check tides before you go. Walk over to Burgh island is great. Good toilets and shop - very clean.

July 2018

Wonderful beach and great view of Burgh Island and the marvellous hotel.

July 2018

Perfect

June 2018

Spent a happy afternoon watching the sea.

May 2018

Perfect location. Excellent to walk across the tombolo and explore the island. Very safe for dogs. We visited on a very sunny day in April and were lucky to get a free parking spot right by the slipway. Views from the top are wonderful. Watching the waves meet from both directions is fascinating.

April 2018

Great beach for walking the dog - only part of the beach is restricted. Not overcrowded as we visited out of season and some lovely views in all directions.

September 2017

Lovely place. Child friendly with fantastic views. Only downside is the dogs that are allowed on. It can get very busy in high season and the dogs can be a pain if running loose especially if you have got little ones. We have got a dog so it's not because we aren't dog lovers!

July 2017

Rather run down and disappointing that visitors are made to feel rather unwanted with only a small section of the pub open to non-residents and the hotel off limits completely to non-residents. View from the top lovely, but I wouldn't drive miles and miles to visit. What attracted me was the parting of the sea and that was a lovely view

June 2017

Fantastic unique place with sea both sides of the beach when the tide is out and Burgh Island to walk to with a lovely old pub but inefficient service.

South Milton Sands
South Milton Sands
(6 miles)

(45)

A long stretch of sand broken only by the South Milton Ley freshwater reed bed, South Milton Sands is a dramatic beach that’s exposed to the elements, making it something of a chameleon throughout the year. Rugged in its beauty, there’s nothing quite like watching the sun set at this beach behind an iconic rock archway in the water; it really is spectacular, particularly if you do so over dinner in the summer months from The Beach Café, a small but perfectly formed restaurant and café that’s perched just above the sand. If you want a table inside then you really do have to book this one, but if the weather is fine then eating outside is a joy. The beach is sandy and popular on windy days with kite surfers and windsurfers, but in calmer weather is perfect for a summer swim. Dogs are welcome at South Milton throughout the year, there’s a National Trust car park by the beach which costs from £5 for the day, £3 after 4pm or is free for National Trust members. There are also toilets nearby. It’s also worth knowing that in the summer months lifeguards are in situ from 6th July until 8th September, keeping everyone safe in the sun, sea and sand. When the weather is less conducive to sitting and admiring the view, South Milton is perfectly placed for a stroll along the coast path either towards Hope Cove and around towards Salcombe if you fancy making a day of it, or in the opposite direction you can walk towards Bantham and Bigbury on Sea. It’s a wonderful place to explore and watch Devon’s wildlife in all its glory.

We love this all year round very dog friendly beach. Great even when the tide in. Plenty of parking and a great cafe to boot.

October 2023

Beautiful beach and we had the added bonus of the Rockbox pop up bar being directly behind. If you are staying in hope cove it is worth the 20 minute walk to get here as much better than the hope cove beaches, also has toilet facilities.

September 2023

Lovely sandy beach, easy parking and clean beach

Great beach for swimming , paddle boarding and playing with the dog. very good access to food and drink outlets.

July 2022

Very clean, Fantastic dog friendly beach

May 2022

very good beach, dog friendly. the road access is via single car lanes with passing places, this seems to work early season apr/may but could be fun in the high season.

May 2022

Wonderful sandy dog friendly beach

May 2022

Lovely walk across the beach

October 2021

Lovely beach. Great for dogs too. The car park is owned by national trust and if you don’t have any money for the parking you need to download the app. Problem there is no signal once you are there to pay for your parking! Best bring change.

September 2021

We walked along to this beach and found it to be a very pleasant.

September 2021

Lovely, clean and not busy

September 2021

Lovely Beach!

July 2021

fantastic beach - safe and so clean - could hardly believe how clears the water was !

July 2021

Lovely beach. Great catering facilities and clean, free lavatories. The car park is large and as a member of the National Trust parking was free (usually £6)

July 2021

Beautiful sandy beach. Large well organised NT car park which filled up quickly on a sunny weekend. Younger family members enjoyed hiring a paddle board for half an hour. Wet suits a good idea!

June 2021

Lovely sandy beach.

June 2021

lovely area

May 2021

Perfect beach for early morning dog walks.

May 2021

Lovely beach with fantastic cafe

April 2021

October 2020

Really lovely long stretch of uncrowded sandy beach, ample parking, clear water.

October 2020

Beach is beautiful but steep to walk down from the car park

September 2020

Perfect safe and sandy beach. Lovely and fairly easy walk to/from Hope Cove with great views along the way.

August 2020

Fabulous sandy beach with lots of rock pools to explore at low tide. Ideal for children and dig friendly too

August 2019

Fantastic to be able to walk dogs down there. Nice cafe. Could do with dog poo bag bins on or near beach Car parking expensive just to be on beach for half an hour

August 2019

Great beach! Also we enjoyed being able to rent paddle boards.

August 2019

South Milton sands is a beautiful beach. Arrive early to get a good parking space as it does get quite busy. The beach is sand and shingle. £5 per day for parking, great value. The only shame is that there were too many paddle boards getting in the way of swimmers. Maybe a cordened off area for swimmers would be better.

August 2019

We walked over from Hope Cove and found it a pretty unattractive beach with a massive pipe leading out to sea and a horrible sewage smell. Happy we hadn't bothered to go there for a day out!

July 2019

We loved this beach and returned a number of times during our stay. Safe shallow water for the family with some good waves for body-boarding as the tide came in and friendly life guards in attendance all day! Easy access from the car park - facilities nearby and dog friendly - everything we needed! We also enjoyed the cliff top walk to nearby hope cove on one afternoon.

July 2019

A lovely beach with plenty to look at. Dogs are allowed - very good for children if supervised.

June 2019

Lovely beach, stunning views and a safe place for children to rock pool, and swim. Spoiled for us by the large numbers of kite surfers dominating the water along with the surf school who took little account of those families enjoying the beach ordering people out of the water when they had a schooling session on. Words were had. They need to understand it isn't their property and if people want to enjoy the beach, they need to move to a spot where they aren't bothering people. Good car parking and a nice little cafe selling cakes/flapjacks and coffee with WC next to it, so beach-goers are well catered for. Could have done without the thump thump music and bar flies in shades but that's typical of many such places these days. On the whole a great beach with decent accessibility via car or foot and preferable in many ways to the larger beach at Thurlestone during peak times, and preferable to the beaches at Hope Cove when busy.

June 2019

great beach only bad thing is its owned by the national trust and parking is £5.00 no matter how short or long you want to stay no option of paying by the hour

October 2018

A great beach but at £5 a day to visit (National Trust!) rather expensive. Variable rate better.

October 2018

Excellent beach, well maintained and dogs allowed all year round. Great range of activities to enjoy from swimming, snorkelling, SUP, kite surfing, kayaking and scrambling when the tide is out. Loved it and will return

June 2018

Amazin beach - especially when the tide goes out and all the rock pools come out to play!!! Shame about the coarse 'sand', but that can't be helped; just get some shingle shoes. If you want sand go to North Sands or Bantham!

August 2017

A glorious beach! Dog friendly, sandy, rock pools at the far end. Parking handy, spectacular views - the stone arch beats Durdle Door in my mind..... Delightful. Loved it.

July 2017

Fabulous dog friendly beach with amazing views

June 2017

Beautiful.

May 2017

Fantastic sandy beach for everything, rock pools, building sandcastles body boarding.

December 2023

A well equipped cosy cottage.

October 2023

Seating a it low for the elderly.

September 2023

The cottage was spotlessly clean, bed linen was of good quality. Lovely to have fresh milk in the fridge for a cup of tea on arrival. Thank you

September 2023

Loved the cottage and its location but we're very disappointed that the pub in the village has closed down. We understand from talking to the locals that it closed down in 2020 so would have been nice if in the property details it says no local pub as it did spoil our visit to a small extent as we had to drive a few miles each evening to find places to eat and/or drink. Lack of facilities in the village is the only thing that would stop us rebooking as loved the cottage and the well maintained secure garden.

Thank you for your feedback which we have passed to the owner, delighted to note that you enjoyed the cottage and your stay. We have looked into the local pub and understand it closed earlier this year so have removed it for now from details until it reopens.

- The Toad Hall Team

August 2023

Cottage was excellent, stair gate really useful with our dog. Village lovely too, nice community church. Shame the pub’s now closed.

July 2023

Comfortable well equipped cottage in a good location

June 2023

This was our third time at this pretty cottage set in this friendly village, it was sad that the pub was closed, but so many good places to visit nearby and a few in walking distance so perfect.

June 2023

Lovely cottage, lovely village, Good location, close to kingsbridge.

October 2022

We loved our stay at this very peaceful cottage. Please pass on a big thank you to the handyman Derek who came out to sort a couple of minor issues.

August 2022

The welcome packet and milk was a nice. The Loddiswell Inn is good for food.

August 2022

Very much enjoyed our stay; lovely cottage in a lovely central location to local area and places like the Chilli Farm, Cider Farm, Salcombe and Kingsbridge

August 2022

We had a fantastic stay for a week, Loddiswell is a quiet village so you need to drive for most things. Saying that everything is within 20mins away. Perfect location for a peaceful holiday whilst being in a great location for all of the wonderful beaches South Hams has to offer. Would definitely stay again.

July 2022

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage and would come again. Great location for getting around the South Hams and having parking outside was helpful.

July 2022

The cottage was clean and comfortable and well located.

May 2022

This is a nice little cottage in a friendly village with some lovely walks right on the doorstep . A perfect base to explore south Devon

May 2022

We had a lovely stay. Good weather was a bonus.

April 2022

Always enjoy our stay in the area, felt this fell a little below our previous experiences with you.

November 2021

We absolutely enjoyed our stay and the cottage was fantastic! The village is perfectly placed for day trips in any direction so it enabled us to maximize our days to the full! We loved the peace and quiet - and the gentle sound of the church bells striking the hours created a very tranquil atmosphere, which was a pleasant change for us! Our Dog (Dexter) also loved it and the enclosed garden was a God-send as we could let him out without the fear of him escaping (as he's still a puppy and very inquisitive) - in fact that was one of the key factors that made us select Higher Rose Cottage as it gave us peace-of-mind that Dexter would be safe and contained when we let him out. We were also blessed with fantastic sunny days on every single day so that was an unexpected bonus in November! We will definitely be returning to Higher Rose Cottage in the future and I have told my 3 grown up sons about it as well so you may well have additional 'Blood's' contacting you at some point! :-)

October 2021

We did enjoy our stay here and would certainly visit the area again. The cottage has a lot of potential but probably just needs updating a little

August 2021

The living area was not big enough for a family of 5 and a dog. However some of the furniture could be cleared for larger more comfortable sofas. The floors were absolutely soaking when we arrived at 5.15 and we had to re mop! There was quite a bit of dust on the numerous decorations (eg plastic flowers above the mirrors) The smoke alarm in the kitchen needs looking at as it went off every time we made toast or opened the oven! For the price point we were a little disappointed which is a shame as it’s such a pretty little cottage. With a few alterations it could be much better. Thanks

July 2021

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage and would come again. Great location for travelling around South Hams and having parking space outside is helpful.

June 2021

Lovely cottage, well equipped kitchen but it would have been nice to have had chairs for all four of rather than just a bench for the teenagers in the dining area

May 2021

Lovely location,friendly neighbours.

April 2021

Wonderful stay, we would stay there again if the mattress has been changed!! Another than that, a glorious cottage in a central South Hams location.

July 2020

We found the cottage comfortable and in a superb location.

February 2020

Yes lovely cosy cottage and was lovely to receive a welcome pack of goodies. Nice location handy for touring around the various towns and beaches.

September 2019

We enjoyed our stay.

July 2019

First time we have stayed at the cottage and would come again. An excellent location for travelling around the South Hams area. Having parking directly outside was a bonus. Overall had a great week and thought the cottage was ideal for the 2 of us.

June 2019

Considerations could have been given to perhaps heating the property prior to our arrival. Weather wise it's been a miserable June with temperatures below average so the house felt 'unlived' in when we first arrived. However by the 2nd day we had worked out how to use the storage radiators and the cottage felt more cosy.

June 2019

This is an idyllic, restful and quiet location in a friendly, unspoiled village. The property is homely, comfortable and very well equipped with a fully secure, pretty cottage garden at the rear. On arrival there was a generous and thoughtful 'Welcome Pack'....one of the best I have ever received - thank you.

May 2019

The cottage was a great base with some amazing walks right on the doorstep and a friendly village with both the Avon garden centre and Anne valley farm shop which were good places to eat at and again not too far to walk to( if you were feeling brave)

December 2018

Enjoyed it very much. Coal and logs greatly appreciated as was welcome pack. Brilliant location in friendly village. Being able to park right next to front door was a bonus. Cosy feel made it especially ideal for a winter break.

October 2018

I have stayed at the property 3 times and really appreciate the introduction of Wu Fi in the property. This is a great Place to relax and enjoy the amazing walks in the area.

September 2018

Loved the welcome pack. Found the sofas a bit uncomfortable till we discovered the footstools and could sit with our feet up, then we were fine. Beds were good( I thought they were standard size, unlike a previous review), especially the wool filled duvets, loved those. May be useful to have additional instructions for the storage heaters as found them a bit tricky to begin with. Perhaps just a one off but the grass in the garden was very long, so made it difficult to even see dog poops never mind pick them up. But those are just small points, all in all the cottage was lovely and we would stay again. Lotsfootpaths in the area. The village pub was very welcoming and enjoyed our meals there.

August 2018

We throughly enjoyed our stay and the cottage was lovely, cosy and homely. It was in easy reach of a shop and a nice local pub and close driving distance to all of the locations on the estuary, Dartmouth and Avon we wanted to visit. There was also a lovely walk down by the river Avon and a garden centre and cafe well worth a visit. Our only comments would be that as there was no dust pan and brush there was a pile of dirt in the hall closet. Also that the beds are very small, both the double and the singles.

July 2018

Lovely quiet location, local church very friendly

July 2018

A very nice property. very clean and with an excellent standard of equipment. On the whole ten out of ten.

April 2018

Absolutely brilliant holiday. Cottage excellent. Cottage was a real 'home' with everything we needed supplied - even dog bowls. Location excellent as within easily driving distance of all the South Hams beaches plus Dartmoor and near Kingsbridge for supplies. Villagers every friendly. Excellent walks from doorstep. Level doorstep parking a bonus. We were fortunate to have very good weather whilst away - unbelievably good for April. We really enjoyed our time at Upper Rose Cottage. Many thanks!

April 2018

We loved it, very cosy, very well equipped and pretty. Service from start to finish was straight forward and personal. Would deffinately recommend.

October 2017

Mostly except for the issues raised above.

July 2017

It was lovely, couldn't of wished for better.

June 2017

The cottage is really well equipped and attractive, the beds are very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed staying there.

July 2016

We had a great stay and would give 4 out of 5 stars would consider returning to the property Thank you The Smith Family

July 2015

The cottage was beyond our expectations. I normally take some "essential" kitchen equipment, but this was completely unnecessary. The cottage was well equipped and so cosy and comfortable it was like being at home - just quieter! We requested, and were lucky enough to have an extra night, and this was dealt with extremely quickly. Much appreciated.

August 2014

Lovely cottage, love the new shower! Our 2nd time at the cottage and look forward to our next visit.

August 2013

Beautiful cottage, well equipped with lovely garden and very rare useful front drive. Beds very comfortable but need more comfortable furniture in the lounge and a proper shower in the lovely huge bathroom is desperately needed. Will definitely be staying again.

June 2013

Higher Rose Cottage was delightful. The house felt like home and contained a good range of interesting books - both for reading and reference. Loddiswell is in a wonderful location and convenient for exploring South Devon and Dartmoor. It is a very friendly village.
