July 2017

We have returned from a weeks holiday at Nelsons cottage in Looe. A lovely cottage and well equipped and very nicely furnished. I had a small accident whilst there which ended up having a sprained ankle, and Val (owner)was so helpful. She gave me a wheelchair and a stick, and ice packs, she also text me a couple of times to ask how I was. She even came to see me the day before we were to leave. I would would certainly stay again. If I were to have one small criticism it would be to replace the lace curtain that's damaged in the twin room, and a couple of black rubbish sacks for the bin. But that is a small thing compered to the large heart of Val. Thank you.

Looe Museum
(Less than a mile)

(4)

Owned by the East Loose Town Trust, the Looe Museum is managed by a small community of volunteers, and gives a delightful insight into the history and character of the area.  It’s an opportunity to develop your knowledge of the town and locality whether you’re a first time visitor or frequent tourist.  They frequently house new exhibitions and take part in local events, acting as a supportive part of the community.  In 2016 they celebrated the 150th anniversary of the lifeboats in Looe for example, by loaning some of its objects to the RNLI for a dedicated exhibition.  Admission is £2 for adults, £1 for children, and £4.50 for families.

beautiful line but service not very frequent

August 2022

Brilliant little railway journey. Lovely oldie Worldie station. Beautiful scenery.

July 2022

Easy to book .The train rise itself is OK but mainly through woodland so not much too see apart from trees. The walk from the train station to the town is abit of a walk about 15 minutes .The town its self is ok but seems to be for older people ie the shops are very old fashioned. Personally we would not visit again .

July 2021

Totally brilliant. Loved it

July 2021

Delightful branch line, frequent + reliable service, lovely views of estuary, woodland, bluebells ?!

June 2021

Enjoyed our train ride, but was disappointed in Liskeard, got the next train back.

September 2020

we got a group saver ticket and was very happy with the price, but unfortunately our train was due to leave at 11:10. we were sitting on the train waiting and at approximately 11:40 the driver came from his cab and apologised that the loud speakers were not working and that the train was cancelled, so we had to wait until 12:22 on a very warm train.

September 2019

Lovely little train ride alive the river, worth while. Recommend travelling to Lisgard and getting a return to Looe, much cheaper to park that way!

June 2018

The Monkey Sanctuary
(2 miles)

(1)

Not perhaps what you might expect to find in Cornwall, The Monkey Sanctuary is a delightful opportunity to learn about its 36 inhabitants, all of whom have distinct characters and personalities.  An active rescue centre dealing with individuals that have often not had a very happy start to life, the priority is always their wellbeing, but it’s also an opportunity for guests to meet them and learn about the organization, explore the gardens and cultivated meadows, shop or relax in the café.  There’s also a play area for children, with views of the Cornish coast.  The sanctuary is closed on Fridays, but otherwise open from March to September (dates vary from year to year, so keep an eye on the website).  Prices start at £8.50 per adult and £5 for children, which entitles you to entry for a whole year.

June 2018

Looe Beach
(Less than a mile)

(20)

In East Looe, the beach sits directly in front of the old town, sheltered by the Banjo Pier and overlooked from the east by the hillside of Mount Ararat.  A good family beach that has something for everyone, at low tide the sandy location is safe for swimming although it’s recommended you steer clear of the river mouth beyond the pier.  Unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, but Hannafore beach in West Looe is dog friendly.  The beach backs on to a seafront walkway which runs its length all the way to Second Beach to the east, where it tends to be less busy and it’s good for snorkeling.  As it’s in the centre of the town there are lots of facilities and cafes nearby, but in the summer it’s a very popular spot and parking can be tricky, with traffic prohibited during these months, so be prepared for a bit of a walk.

Great, despite the early season seaweed, the tractor cleared it very well.

April 2023

LOVE LOVE LOVE

July 2022

All of the beaches around Looe are worth visiting - and the coastal path is a must. Fuel for the hike? Not listed in the reviews is Sarah’s Pasties which has the best pasties (we ate a lot of pasties during the week!). They were also one of the few eateries in the area which could provide something for someone needing a gluten and dairy free diet. We were able to preorder pasties that met her dietary requirements.

February 2022

August 2017

Lovely beach and even when it was busy didn't feel overcrowded

August 2017

Hannafore Beach
(Less than a mile)

(9)

Half a mile west of Looe, stretching along the coast, Hannafore Beach is a sandy, shingle bay with a rocky reef and views of St George’s Island.  At low tide it’s brimming with rock pools, making it fun and games for the whole family to enjoy, and it’s a wonderful sun trap in summer months thanks to its south east facing position.  Because of its location over the river, the beach never really becomes too busy, but equally there aren’t any facilities nearby.  It’s popular with dog walkers as it’s amongst the few dog-friendly beaches in the area, and having explored you can extend your excursion to a stroll along the promenade or a potter around the coast path to the wonderfully scenic Talland Bay.  There is roadside parking along the sea front above the beach, but it can be difficult to find a space.  Alternatively, there is a large car park in West Looe, around 10 minutes away on foot.

Plaidy Beach
(Less than a mile)

(1)

A small and pleasant grey sand beach with rocks exposed at low tide, Plaidy Beach is simply a nice place to visit and take in the scenery.  There aren’t any facilities, and there’s no parking nearby so it’s one to reach on foot.  There’s a slipway to the beach, but you will have to access it by walking along the coast path, parking at Millendreath or Looe and it’s worth keeping in mind that it’s quite steep from both directions.  Millendreath is closer and the walk should take around 20 minutes.  Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, so it’s a charming place to take them for a walk while you’re in the area.

August 2018

Millendreath Beach
(Less than a mile)

(1)

Millendreath Beach is a south facing beach at the foot of a wooded valley, in a sheltered cove with soft sand and lots of rock pools to explore at low tide.  It’s connected to other nearby beaches by the South West Coast Path.  Dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, and there is a reasonably sized car park a few minutes walk away.  The beach is popular with families on holiday in Cornwall, and most of the surrounding area is occupied by a holiday park, so there are lot of facilities open to the public.

Talland Bay
(3 miles)

(16)

A small, quiet beach between Looe and Polperro, Talland Bay actually comprises two beaches, one of which has sand both at low and high tide and is good for swimming all the time, while the other is less sandy and is easiest to swim from at high tide.  There is a ramp for launching boats from the main beach and there are lots of small coves and tidal pools to swim in as well, so it’s a delightful area to explore in the water.  Parking is limited, but there is a small, free car park by the beach and paid parking at The Beach Café, all of which provide easy access to the sand.  Thanks to the nearby café, visitors can also benefit from the accompanying facilities, on-site shop, and tuck into Roskillys Cornish Ice-Cream as well.

October 2023

Having spent many a happy childhood holiday here - 60 years ago, so wonderful to return. It is so beautiful and with addition of 2 Beach cafes - even better now.

June 2023

Beautiful little bay with a great cafe overlooking it. Dogs allowed on the beach Oct to end of May.....

October 2021

Although there was indeed sand in one of the bays it was largely covered with seaweed at the water's edge when we were there. All very natural.

October 2021

Lovely bay, shingle beach

September 2021

Not a great beach and a bit smelly.

August 2021

Unfortunately the seaweed on the beach made it very smelly and also lots of flies. Beautiful apart from that!

June 2021

Lovely walk from polperro along coast. Cafe in picturesque bay pretty with little huts to shelter. Only downside was the coffee not good at all.

May 2021

Beautiful bay. A little smelly from the seaweed but rock pools galore and quiet

October 2020

Very interesting beach with rock pools at low tide and fascinating multi-coloured rocks, great for photography.

October 2019

A lovely place to walk too on the way to Looe. Hard work back up the hill to polperro, bit it's worth it!

October 2018

The coastal walk from Polperro to Talland Bay is outstanding. As both are scenic, (and Talland Bay benefits from an excellent cafe and free toilets), it makes for an excellent morning or afternoon trip in good weather.

May 2018

Lovely beach, beautiful walk from Polperro. Dogs requested to be kept on leads (which I suppose is preferable to a ban!). Families seem to use this beach alot.

April 2024

The stay was excellent and everything was well presented.

February 2024

Yes, we did enjoy our stay, we were warm and comfortable, shops were easy to access, as were the restaurants etc. Car parking whilst tight was a huge benefit.

January 2024

Due to the boiler going off (error code 0104) we called the caretaker(Dilly) as per contact in the book and and would like to highlight what an excellent service he gave, Dilly was in the cottage within 10 minutes the first time the boiler went off which was late on New Year’s Eve, he was very apologetic and polite and had it fixed within 10 minutes. Dilly really couldn’t do enough for us and checked in with us every few days to make sure all was OK. Please pass on my thanks to Dilly as I really appreciated him coming out so quickly late on New Year’s Eve. The service we received from Toad Hall cottages was excellent and made the booking process very easy, so much so that we have booked a different cottage through Toad Hall again for 2024 new year period.

That's great to hear, thank you so much for your understanding with the boiler. We hope to welcome you back sometime soon!

December 2023

Was a lovely cottage with everything that you needed and in a great location just seconds from the beach and minutes from the shops. Only niggles were the sink in the bathroom is really small, understand need to make use of space but it was like trying to was using soup bowl lol. Also just ensure all information is correct as was given 3 different departure times (9.30am in the email, 9.00am on the laminated sheet in the property and 10.00am in the information folder in the property). Apart from that it was a lovely property with all mod cons and equipment that you need, and even though the weather was cold, having the bedroom window open slightly and listening to the waves on the beach really drifts you off into a deep sleep.

November 2023

We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was excellent for the two of us, and close to town Will use Toad Hall Cottages again. Only one thing......no potato masher !! lol Kind Regards

October 2023

My wife and I enjoyed every moment of our stay. The cottage was so well equipped and comfortable. I have been coming to Looe on and off for 53 years, and this was by far our most enjoyable to date.

October 2023

Everything was excellent parking is so useful we have been coming to Looe for 20 years already have booked at Beach Cottage with our daughter & family next summer.

August 2023

Location was perfect, great to have parking included.

August 2023

Front door lock a bit stiff to open

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that you found the door to be a little stiff. Now that the caretaker is aware, it has been oiled. We are so pleased that otherwise you were pleased and thank you for your high rating.

July 2023

We did really enjoy our stay there and thought the price was brilliant, there was only minor things that I picked up on which I’ve mentioned but wouldn’t definitely stay there again, great location.

Thank you for your feedback, it is always useful to know about the minor problems so they can be resolved for the next guests.

April 2023

Had a great week - despite constant noisy gulls!!

April 2023

None pergect

April 2023

The property is a good holiday base. Taking into account that it's not the biggest cottage we've rented, as a family of four we all enjoyed our stay. Would book again, good value for money.

Thank you for your feedback. Although Puffins is compact, it has been well thought out and enjoys that enviable location too!

September 2022

Absolutely loved it very comfortable will use again.

July 2022

Puffins was perfect, wonderfully located near the beech, clean and well equipped, comfortable bed and sofas. Quiet at night (seagulls apart!) and comparatively cool during some hot weather. The parking was convenient and safe.

July 2022

We absolutely loved the cottage, totally ideal for 2-3, but 4 would have been a squeeze. It was perfect, but very small

June 2022

Lovely stay. Location is perfect for accessing the beach and town and local walks.

May 2022

The cottage is a credit to the owners and the people who look after it. The car park permit is a godsend.

November 2021

Yes we did

October 2021

Absolutely loved it, we hope to return.

October 2021

In short, my family had a great stay (Aug bank hols 2021). Puffins is small but beautifully formed (and functional) and in a fantastic location in town. Parking very convenient. Cleaner did a great job, and was kind enough to let me know when the parking spot would be free, so we could park a couple of hours early. Looe is a lovely town, recommend Smugglers Cott restaurant for a posh meal. Beach lovely.

July 2021

This was my boyfriend and I’s first holiday together which we finally got to enjoy after covid put it off over a year. The staff at toad hall cottages have been amazing throughout helping with deferrals and have always been friendly. The cottage was in a perfect location in regards to the beach, car parking space and the shops and restaurants in looe. I have been coming to looe since I was a little girl and love it dearly, this cottage did not disappoint. The welcome bundle was also unexpected and put a smile on our faces. We had a wonderful time and have recommended to our friends and family and would happily return in the future- thank you for a special first holiday for us.

October 2020

Fantastic property. Cleaned to a very high standard. Warm and comfortable. Lovely welcome goodies too. MANY thanks.

September 2020

The cottage was as described and we loved our stay. We had a lovely meal at The Old Sail Loft although we were lucky to get a table as Looe was very crowded.

September 2020

Yes! Lovely cottage, great location

August 2020

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, it was a very relaxing holiday.

September 2019

Our family of four have just returned from a lovely week at puffins cottage. Such a beautiful cottage and great location. The cottage is just like home from home with everything you need. We will definitely be returning.

June 2019

2nd year here, came back as enjoyed it so much, we really Like the cottage and almost certainly will go back, the parking is really good but the space is quite tight for a larger car, I did have a problem with a car parking really close to the right as you look at the bays but understand parking is very difficult in Looe, the parking is one of the major factor in staying at this cottage, thank you for a lovely place to stay.

May 2019

Amazing cottage. Couldn’t fault anything. Really clean and inviting. Will definitely be returning

October 2018

Stayed at this Cottage before, great place and very clean and tidy. good location and welcome Wine and Biscuits very nice. I'm sorry we forgot to empty the bin, only remembered on the way home.

September 2018

Was a lovely little cottage with an ideal location. Perfect for two adults.

August 2018

Lovely place to stay

July 2018

Lovely cottage in a brilliant location. The wine, biscuits and toiletries were a lovely thought. We would definitely recommend this property for a family holiday.

July 2018

Perfect Puffins ? so thoughtfully decorated and equipped with everything you need and more. They really have thought of everything you might need to make your stay more comfortable. We loved our stay at Puffins and weren't ready to leave-we miss the lovely view from the top floor bedroom every morning/evening.The parking space on the beach front was great and the cottage is in a perfect spot close to everything.Highly recommend.

June 2018

One of best equipped cottages I have stayed in, really excellent

April 2018

Perfect Puffins! This cosy cottage was just great for our family break. It was very well equipped, clean and close to both the beach and all of amenities of Looe town. We really appreciated the tea, coffee (and wine!) available on arrival and our girls especially enjoyed the fudge! The parking space was a bonus too, our average sized car fitted there fine. Thankyou for putting so much thought into this lovely holiday cottage.

January 2018

An excellent cottage we would gladly stay there again great frailties great location great standard of furnishing at a very fair price, my one and only negative comment is the terrible WiFi , but this did not spoil our stay as there is more to life than tv and phones lol overall very very pleased

Thank you for your lovely review of The Puffins, Looe is such a magical place over the New Year. Your comment about the wi-fi is really helpful and as a result the owners have immediately upgraded to unlimited super-fast broadband in the cottage, extending the reach and more than doubling the speed of the existing wi-fi.

September 2017

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the thoughtful touch of the wine, fudge and fairings when we arrived was lovely and very much appreciated!

July 2017

The cottage was fantastic. Although it is very small it had everything we needed and we'd highly recommend it. The welcoming gift was a lovely unexpected surprise. Thank you

June 2017

We had a fab time in the cottage , the owners have thought of everything , hats off to them. We would definitely stay in that cottage again . Very clean everything we needed, and a very comfortable bed . First time I never had back ache. The only down fall was the weather.????But they even had umbrellas ????

June 2017

GREAT LITTLE PLACE HOUSED THE FOUR OF US ALL ADULTS PERFECTLY EASY ACCESS FOR EVERYTHING WILL DEFINATELY USE TOAD HALL COTTAGES IN FUTURE MANY THANKS

February 2017

The toaster set the trip off. A second set of keys would have been really useful as I went for a walk early morning and had to either post the keys back through the letterbox (and wake someone up to let me back in) or take the key or leave it in the keysafe rendering everyone locked in with no means of escape in an emergency. The cottage was beautiful, loved our stay-many thanks

We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your time at Puffins! It is a lovely property, and very popular. The owners of the cottage have arranged to supply a replacement toaster next week, and they have also let us know that when their new front door is fitted over the next few days, they will make sure they supply 2 sets of keys for future guests. Thank you for drawing both of these points to our attention, your feedback has been extremely useful. We hope to see you again.

November 2016

We were so very grateful to your member of staff at the Polperro office who assisted us with our telephone enquiry as we were travelling on the M1 motorway. This enabled us to travel down overnight on Friday to the cottage arriving in the early hours of Saturday morning as the cottage was vacant and ready for occupancy.

October 2016

Puffins is a lovely cottage in a fantastic position, a short stroll to the beach and lovely restaurants. The house is small but well equipped and very comfortable. The owners have done a lovely job modernising the property and providing everything you need. We really enjoyed our stay in Looe and will definitely go back! Thank you.

September 2016

What a fantastic hidden gem this little cottage is. Think of it more as a modern well equipped flat but wow it is perfectly formed. It was a perfect friendly home from home for us (a couple) but as well as the main bedroom there is a small twin second bedroom on the first floor. The whole place is beautifully furnished and brilliantly fitted with everything you could possibly need, including internet, internet tv and radio, slow cooker, washer drier, hair drier, even fishing nets, games, dvd's and a sewing kit are all there! Lovely bottle of wine and tea coffee and biscuits on arrival, we made a beef bourguignon with our wine! Oil paintings on the wall, piping hot shower and bath and magnificent sea views over the roof tops from our bedroom on the top floor, the whole place is quality. When we arrived we were a little unsure about the narrow street away from the front but this turned out to be a real bonus as it is closed to traffic and there are hardly any passing pedestrians either, the house is tucked away and a sea of calm and yet within only a few metres of the beach, river, restaurants and pubs. We are probably biased as we love Looe and go most years but this holiday was special for us. We had great weather, Looe is a fantastic seaside resort there are lots of places to eat and drink and plenty of things to do, there is always something going on in the town. We loved our stay, Puffins is a pretty fisherman's cottage just one row back from the seafront in an amazing central location so close to everything, thank you so much for having us, we leave relaxed and refreshed with great memories of our holiday and hope to be back soon.

July 2016

Very relaxeing

May 2016

Perfect Puffins. We would like to thank you for letting us stay in your home, such a delight, cosy comfortable with everything we could possibly need. Looe has an excellent choice of pubs, restaurants and shops. So near the beach, nearer than a stones throw. We shall return....

April 2016

The accommodation was extremely well equipped and feel this should be shown in advert to promote it better. Eg hairdryer, washing machine, slow cooker etc all available.

June 2013

Fabulous location and perfect bijou cottage. Great views from the 2nd floor bedroom and light and airy and modern decor. Perfect size for a holiday cottage for 2 adults 2 kids, may be tight for 4 adults. Very friendly neighbours and locals. We found lots to do by day and evening.
