The area is quiet, unspoilt and boasts an abundance of wildlife and birds, including the rare cirl buntings which farmers and naturalists are working hard to protect.

East Prawle village is surrounded by fields with stunning rural and coastal views. The village has a green, the quirky former smugglers' hide, The Pig'sNose Inn, and the seasonal Piglet Stores and Café which serves excellent, hearty breakfasts and delicious cream teas. The nearby stretch of coastline is said to resemble the shape of a pig's head, which explains the local pig references!

From East Prawle you can take a 2 mile stroll to East Portlemouth to catch the ferry over to Salcombe to enjoy shops, cafés, restaurants, and everything else that the sailing mecca has to offer.

For walkers this area is idyllic rambling country which can begin or end at the award-winning Millbrook Inn, South Pool situated just off the main Kingsbridge to Dartmouth road. A walk in Pig country is guaranteed to be a most memorable and enjoyable experience!

Eccletic and characterful! Great atmosphere and incredible home cooked Sunday dinner. Huge portions!

April 2024

Great pub Full of locals and visitors. Very dog friendly. Food was mostly good. Really nice cider. Live music from al local young band was fun. Looking forwards to visiting again .

October 2023

Whilst on holiday, we went in for a drink. Yes, its quirky, full of character, locals and dogs. Suits us fine as we are from rural area. But decided against food as there's a fine line between character and grime.

October 2023

The Pigs Nose is a great pub for a pint and some food. It was busy in October and full of dogs so don’t go there if you don’t like dogs!

October 2023

Good food, friendly staff, and very quaint.

September 2023

There is everything to love and nothing to be negative about. Good food ,great owners, amazing location. Excellent . .

September 2023

we had a few drinks in here over the week... one evening we just sat on the green tasting the local ale and ordered pizza from the pub... a great way to while away the time. staff are very friendly and the pub draws a good, interesting, crowd.

July 2023

We had a meal at The Pigs Nose on the Friday evening of the day we arrived. The pub was very busy but the staff were very efficient and dealt with the customers well. The food was excellent and we really enjoyed our visit.

July 2023

Quaint pub reasonably priced food but mainly burgers or fish and chips.

July 2023

What a great lively pub! Supported by locals and visitors with plenty of memorabilia to study while you sup a pint or 3 and chat to the friendly staff. Probably could do with a bit of a make over but i guess thats its charm ?. The food was fresh and delicious ?...but booking is essential...especially during the busy summer months.

May 2023

Best pub around. Great food, drink and atmosphere plus ideal location for exploring the coastline.

April 2023

Fantastic pub with a great welcome feel and quirky decor

August 2022

Excellent pub but after music weekend stock levels were poor so many things unavailable. Food was tasty but service poor with mains coming an hour apart for a table of 5. Apparently due to pizzas being made by a different organisation. We ate on Sunday and I cancelled a repeat meal for the Tuesday personally 30 hours before the booking and was told we would be charged as per the web site 72 hours notice required. I told the manager this was unacceptable as we wanted to cancel as we were not happy with the first meal. He took offence and barred me. L:uckily there was an older lady present who got him to drop the charge. We chose not to go to the pub again

August 2022

Lovely character and friendly staff serving a nice menu. It was fully booked the night we went but food was still served quickly and tasted great.

July 2022

Quirky pub with friendly and helpful staff. Need to book at weekends/peak season if you want to eat. Excellent food and varied daily specials.

July 2022

Great little pub, book in advance as it gets busy, lovely food and all very friendly

June 2022

Ok- ish but wouldn’t rush back albeit handy just to walk there. Lots of what presumed locals inside. However there are plenty of super eating places around if you want to go by car.

May 2022

Good quirky pub. Beer excellent.

Lovely value for money food, excellent welcome too. Very rustic, rural.

September 2021

Loved it. Great place, lovely people and great food Would love to come back and carry on drinking into the night

September 2021

We had an excellent lunch. The staff were delightful and SO helpful. One member of staff offered to drive us to Mill Bay so our disabled granddaughter could go to the beach, we really appreciated this act of kindness. We declined his offer but we’re so impressed by it. A big thank you to him.

September 2021

Eclectic decor serving great food. Use online booking app “Open table” to book a table for lunch/dinner (advised during peak season)

September 2021

Let down by both food quality and beer quality. We were also overcharged for all food items - which we noticed and got corrected. A real shame as it is so handy.

June 2021

Rustic pub with great beers. The service is chaotic though so be prepared for it!

June 2021

I would recommend the Gammon, egg and chips, plus the fish and chips, however other food offerings were average. The staff were friendly, but at times, the service best described as akin to Faulty Towers.

June 2021

Quirky village pub. Very friendly with good food

May 2021

My wife and I visited the Pigs Nose Inn on several occasions while staying in East Prawle. The hospitality was great with friendly polite and helpful staff doing well to maintain a good service under difficult circumstances with the current Pandemic. The food and drinks menu was comprehensive with great fish and chips and good local beers. It was nice that this old pub had maintained its character.

October 2020

A lovely, friendly place with great beer and great company.

October 2019

We loved the all the quirky objects in the bar and across the ceiling. We had a very tasty Sunday lunch and the pies were great. Had a few games of Pool in the back room one evening and we were made to feel very welcome at this local inn.

October 2019

Lovely quirky pub, extremely dog friendly.

Brilliant pub. Very friendly with a good atmosphere. The food was good enough for our taste buds and the beers were great (a bit too moorish infact!)

November 2018

A great pub with a good selection of beers and ciders and good food served too. The atmosphere is welcoming as you walk in and you soon get into conversation with the locals and their dogs! A great place to visit!

November 2018

This is a real Locals pub however we were made welcome. It is very dog friendly. The food was simple but tasty.

October 2018

Quirky, could be much cleaner. Not too impressed with dogs climbing on furniture next to people eating food.food basic but OK.beer good.good atmosphere

September 2018

Very good local beer and terrific atmosphere with old-fashioned opening hours.

May 2018

Why oh why didn't we go there more often...only went on our last night. Such a lively, personable and vibrantly vivid place with wonderful staff and exceptional food - loved it!

May 2018

Great little pub - nice pint of Red Devon and Devon Pride!

April 2018

Lovely friendly and quirky pub. Excellent cask ales and one of the best Fish and Chip lunches ever. Would love to come back for one of their gig nights.

April 2018

Beer good, but food extremely indifferent (a Saturday lunch time). Very disappointed this time as last time we came to the area, we could have eaten there every day.

October 2017

A really fabulous, relaxed, enjoyable pub, with a great mix of locals, tourists, old and young and lots of lovely dogs. Fabulous food and a selection of games to play too. Really loved it.

September 2017

What a great pub. Friendly atmosphere, good food and local cider.

August 2017

Needs a good clean and then it could be a great pub.

May 2017

A fantastic pub - wonderful atmosphere, great food, and friendly staff

May 2017

This place is like walking into the moulin Rouge.... It's an incredible experience. You never quite know what to expect when you enter into the rabbit hole of East Prawle. However, one thing is for sure, it's all happening in the Pigs Nose. With Atomic Kitten playing last year it draws crowds from far and wide. You would never know what awaits behind the doors of the pigs nose when you drive into the sleepy little village of East Prawle. Whatever the night holds, quiet or explosive, you are sure to be entered. Recently there have been some insanely talented musicians playing at the pub. The landlady and her son gives everyone a warm welcome and makes you feel like your in your own sitting room. It is definitly worth coming the extra mile for.

Great little café conveniently located just around the corner from where we stayed. The food, especially the pizzas, was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

July 2023

The piglet cafe is a welcoming friendly place which sells the most delicious food..I would recommend the pasties especially the veggy ones...delicious. The owner was very helpful and works hard in making sure everything is good quality. Enjoy!

May 2023

Loved this cafe. Really friendly/helpful staff and great food - the pasties in particular being a big hit.

The piglet cafe was sadly shut during our stay but the owner saw that we wanted to visit so opened up especially for us and made us a takeaway cream tea. Absolutely so lovely of her and it was delicious!

Staff not friendly. Breakfast only open to guests. Bar only open to guests when we were there. Information needs updating.

November 2023

We stopped for a coffee at Gara Rock hotel after getting caught in a storm! It was a great refuge for 30 minutes. And the staff are lovely. They used to do nice cream teas but don’t anymore as it has become really posh which is a bit of a shame.

October 2023

We had one of the best meals we have ever had in the Gara Rock Restaurant. Really lovely food. Very friendly and helpful staff and amazing views of the coast.

October 2023

LOVELY SETTING BUT VERY DISAPPOINTING QUALITY OF MEAL AND OVER LENGTHY TIME BETWEEN STARTERS AND MAINS.

October 2023

Excellent food, stunning views, very friendly staff

September 2023

Glorious spot to sit in the sun sipping a chilled lemonade. However in September they do not serve afternoon tea.

September 2023

we had lunch here on the thursday of our stay. this is a very stylish and luxurious hotel and the restaurant lives up to the hype. we had a window table in a glass walled dining room so everyone gets to enjoy the amazing views from here. Food was excellent, not inexpensive, but very well worth coming here for a treat.

July 2023

We have visited several times after walking the costal path and been delighted with the service and food. This time we were directed to an outside van, which was disappointing.

July 2023

Lovely location but very expensive.

July 2023

We went for a walk at Gara beach and stopped off here for a coffee to sit and admire the wonderful views. Nearly £15 for 3 drinks ( 2 coffees & a coke) We checked out the menu for dinner but decided not to book, given price and menu options didn’t appeal ( they do change menu frequently though)

April 2023

Fabulous lunch and what an amazing location!

September 2022

Disappointingly shut to outside guests for a whole week during our visit.

July 2022

Superb meal with an amazing view!

April 2022

FANTASTIC LOCATION,VERY EXPENSIVE AND SHORT STAFFED

September 2021

We stayed locally to this hotel and on 2 occasions tried to go in for a drink and to use the electric charger, which is advertised as a destination charger. The staff, on both occasions, were rude and abrupt.

August 2021

Fabulous! Visited twice, first time for lunch in the restaurant after working up an appetite after the hour’s coastal walk and then secondly for dinner and to see the sun set. A beautiful vista, excellent food and lovely staff.

July 2021

Lovely meal in a restaurant with a great view.

June 2021

Fantastic setting . Sadly restaurant wasn’t open but bacon baps and coffee available from the coffee van - lovely !

May 2021

Stunning location and good food and services.

September 2020

Fantastic service from front of restaurant manager. Food was very good

July 2020

Amazing view, a really great spot for a coffee. We had lunch here which was very pricey. The food was ok, the children’s burgers burnt and ours passable. I wouldn’t recommend it for a dinner or lunch but would go back for tea and cake.

February 2020

What a view

September 2019

We only had pasties and coffee, late morning. The pasties were good but we felt a bit pricey. The staff were mostly very pleasant.

August 2019

We had 3 very enjoyable meals here during our holiday, the food was tasty (particularly the oysters and the white chocolate pudding!) the staff were friendly and accommodating and the restaurant itself is well arranged with a lovely relaxing atmosphere. I hope it continues to do well so we can eat here again in the future.

July 2019

Went for a cream tea, lovely friendly staff who couldn't do enough. Cream tea was the best one we've had. Would highly recommend.

June 2019

Sorry for late review. We stayed here in September and had a fantastic week. The owners were very friendly and the goodies were a lovely touch. The place was immaculate, very well furnished. The bed was so comfortable. The bed linen and towels were spotless. Had a lovely time and still talking about our walks and the fabulous beaches. Do not hesitate to stay here as its an unspoilt area and the Old Cow Shed is the place to stay.

February 2019

The sunset view from here is impressive. The drinks were very pricey £12 for a GnT! The starters were unusual and the fish n chips was ok. Felt a lot to pay to be honest. Dogs welcome which suited us.

October 2018

We had the most wonderful time at the restaurant. Sitting out on the terrace on a glorious September day with the amazing views surrounding us was a stand out experience. The service was enthusiastic and friendly if slightly chaotic. Some of the food was exceptional and some a bit disappointing. But that didn’t matter because the whole experience was so good

October 2018

Still very much closed on 040518, and just a busy building site. I'd be surprised if it's open this summer.

May 2018

A must visit after a long walk. Good menu and drink selections. Amazing views. Dog friendly.

September 2017

Superb place for weekends cakes, breakfast and lunch and beautiful dinner menu through the summer and very dog friendly!

Lovely sunday lunch. Live music downstairs but we were sat upstairs so couldn't hear it which was a shame. Staff all really nice and friendly.

October 2023

Omg what a gorgeous pub! Stunning roast dinner on the Sunday we were there. Staff greeted us with a friendly attitude and we weren’t rushed to take our table but offered a space for a drink by the stream. After lunch there was a fab duo playing on the terrace. Loved it and will be back

September 2023

Good food and beer but a little expensive. Potatoes and veg are extras.

July 2023

The best roast dinner we've had in a long time! Well worth a visit. Excellent service too!

September 2022

Brilliant restaurant and pub.

September 2022

Lovely pub in a nice location. Restaurant food was very nice, but this is not your normal “pub food” it’s high class, using local produce. The prices reflect this… it would be worth ringing up and asking when the next “high tide BBQ” is, as you don’t need to book for this and it looked very tasty !! Folks arrive on boats up the estuary and visit for a pint and a burger!

August 2022

Excellent food and service, with a great atmosphere. Only difficulty was finding somewhere to park the car

August 2022

We ate here twice during our stay in South Pool, on both occasions the food and service were excellent. The Millbrook is very dog friendly and does get busy so booking is essential.

June 2022

Very friendly village pub. The food was very good.

June 2022

This was closed for refurbishment but have used in the past and its well worth a visit

October 2021

Evening meal here was delicious .Excellent quality food and good service .

October 2021

Would give more stars but place was closed for most of the week we were there. However did manage a drink and a very tasty meal on last evening.

September 2021

Sadly we were unable to have a meal here as they were fully booked all week. I guess it must be good, but I’ll never know.

September 2021

Very disappointed had visited before and had a great experience, this time aftwr booking 4 months in advance we waited 1 hour for good and then the chicken was not cooked through. We also had another booking and they decided to close the pub and didn't even email us, inonly knew as I saw on their Facebook page. Very disappointing.

August 2021

A lovely local pub

June 2021

Very good service, super-friendly staff, excellent food even though they are only just getting going, and fab location.

June 2021

August 2019

January 2019

Great atmosphere, good selection of beers.comfortable & welcoming & cosy.had food which was excellent but v expensive.cheapest main was about £15.a few cheaper options would have made this pub perfect.staff very helpful & welcoming

September 2018

The Millbrook has a new bridge at the back to a grassy area with picnic tables, so great for kids. They do an outside BBQ at the front 5-9pm in the summer, also great for kids supper. A lovely old pub in an idyllic location!

September 2018

Outstanding Sunday roast EVEN IF the lamb and the beef look exactly the same, they ain't. Fabulous staff too!

May 2018

A beautiful old pub with real ales, very good food and friendly staff. Right on a stream, lovely wood fire. Lovely garden for the summer.

November 2017

Lovely pub- excellent food and very dog friendly

September 2017

Brilliant pub, friendly, fun staff, Charlie the landlord is working really hard to make this a great place for all to visit.

September 2017

Lovely friendly and helpful staff. The best meal we had on holiday. Children were made to feel very welcome and a very reasonably priced children's menu.

August 2017

My husband and I ate at Millbrook tonight, absolutely beautiful meal and great service, thank you!

May 2017

An interesting and different menu- think top end gastro pub. Lovely place to be, very friendly owners and helpful staff.

May 2017

Great pub, great atmosphere.

May 2017

The Millbrook Inn clear only wants rich adults to come and visit, its menu does not welcome children and this is a great shame.

Lovely lunch on a beautiful sunny Sunday lunch in mid September! A welcome drink and food after a dog swim at the beach opposite. Food was lovely, yes a little expensive, however you do pay for the location, which is worth every penny!

September 2022

Excellent service and lovely food. A lifesaver considering there are few options to eat in East Portlemouth.

July 2022

Friendly cup of tea after a walk back from the beach.

Start Point Lighthouse
Start Point Lighthouse
(3 miles)

(10)

Built in 1836 to mark one of the most exposed peninsulas on the English coast, Start Point lighthouse was designed by James Walker and sits on a headland that runs sharply out into the sea on the south side of Start Bay near Dartmouth. Its style is largely influenced by the Gothic movement, and the optic used was the first of its kind. Coastal erosion has affected it over time and the lighthouse was automated in 1993, but it’s still in operation and can now be visited. Tours last around 45 minutes and are on the hour from 11am until 4pm, or 5pm in July and August. Prices start at £4.00 for adults and £2.50 for children – remember to wear sensible shoes and keep in mind that tours are weather dependent… as you might expect!

My dacshund and I walked along the coastal path . Although Start Point was not open at the time, we were not disappointed, the coastal walk was lovely, as we got nearer to the lighthouse, we stood and watched in amazement at the tuna fish jumping high out of the water. It was spectacular to watch . I would thoroughly recommend.

December 2023

Excellent views, we went when it was closed unfortunately but a great walk for the dogs. You have to pay to park but I think it was only £4

June 2023

Sadly lighthouse was closed due to COVID, however it was still worth a visit for the views and the walk along the headlands. It was awesome, saw lots of seals playing around the rocks. Wear good footwear as a little uneven in places, lots places to sit and enjoy the view. Binoculars are a must. I loved it and I’m not a strong Walker

May 2021

If you can visit on a day when you can take a tour it's well worth it. The staff are knowledgable and make the tour really interesting for children and adults alike. It's a narrow & steep climb in places.

April 2021

Great walk along the coast path from Beesands - fantastic views

October 2020

The msot beatiful stratch of coastline I have walked along for a while. We did a circular walk which included Hallsands, and the lighthouse, and would throughly recommend visiting the lighthouse, if just for the views. Be aware thought, that there are limioted ameneities - only a portacabin loo in the carpark

September 2019

Stunning views from here. Great walk along from the car park, very accessible for all levels of fitness. Visitor centre was closed when we arrived for refurbishment at the end of the season but still worth the walk.

October 2018

Had a really interesting tour at the end of September, which was the highlight of our holiday. Out guide, Mary, was very friendly and informative. Would highly recommend this. Fantastic location and views and very interesting history. Thanks Mary.

October 2017

We really enjoyed our visit. My husband and son had a tour (£5 per adult and under 5's free) and thought it was brilliant. Children under 1.1m's tall can not go on the tour so my younger son and I enjoyed the coastal views which were fantastic.

June 2017

Fantastic walk with wonderful views, you'll find the best beach in the South Hams hear, bit of a walk but it is glorious.

Lannacombe Beach
Lannacombe Beach
(2 miles)

(13)

Rugged and unspoiled, Lannacombe is the beach for those looking for total escapism on their South West holiday. Small and perfect for escaping from the summer crowds, it’s one of the best places to visit to simply enjoy the Devon scenery in all its natural glory. There’s a small car park just behind the beach so do get there early in order to guarantee a space, although there is further parking a short walk away if need be. Dogs are welcome at the beach throughout the year and as it offers access to the Coast Path it’s a good idea to combine your visit with a walk to take in the views of sea and countryside, perhaps towards Start Point where there is further parking around 30-40 minutes away on foot. At low tide the beach offers gentle rock pooling so it’s a lovely spot to head to for a quiet afternoon with the family, building sandcastles and eating sandwiches if you remember to bring them. There aren’t any cafes and restaurants immediately on site, so do remember to take anything you need with you, and there aren’t any toilets in the near vicinity either, so that’s worth keeping in mind when you plan your day. If you have been on holidays in Devon and Cornwall before you will also know that you need to watch our for the tide at many of the beaches, including this one in order to avoid disappointment or getting wet, you can pick up a tide timetable at local post offices!

Lovely walk along the coast from Horizons. Beautiful sandy beach

April 2024

Lannacombe is a lovely beach! The beach is gentle and slopes nicely into the sea. We swam in October and it was beautiful. If you haven’t been there are no facilities and only parking for about 8-9 cars so get there early in peak season. It’s on the SW Coast path and we have walked from East Prawle though takes a while. Fabulous beach. Keep it to yourself!

October 2023

Best beach in the area, spent a lovely sunny day here.

September 2023

A favourite beach of us, we spent another lovely afternoon there, superb view and great for rock pooling.

April 2022

Fantastic beach! Secluded and beautiful. Windy narrow lanes to reach it but worth it. We were able to get a car space in the small car park which was great. Our dog loved it and so did we!

October 2021

Best beach in the world! Dont tell anyone or else we will never get one of the 8 parking spaces!

September 2021

Unspoilt and away from the crowds. Perfect secret

August 2021

Beautiful unspoilt beach.

July 2021

We walked here from East Prawle, it was a delightful find and we explored the beach whilst en route along the coastal path. I imagine it would be extremely busy in high season but we were the only ones there so felt very lucky to have found it.

June 2021

Lovely but inaccessible down rough extremely narrow lane with very tiny parking & limited turning , best to walk from Start Point car park

October 2020

Very limited parking (but we got lucky!). Wide, spacious but covered in dense seaweed - what's happened? It never used to be so weedy.

August 2019

Excellent secluded beach once you find it. Signs would be helpful but this would be detrimental as visitors would "flood" the small car park. Well worth visiting and walking along the stunning cliff walks

September 2018

A lovely beach where we enjoy sitting and eating our sandwiches after walking from Start Point.

Gara Rock Beach
Gara Rock Beach
(2 miles)

(12)

A short ferry ride over the estuary from Salcombe to East Portlemouth, followed by a scenic walk along the coast (around 40 minutes depending on how speedy you are), will lead you to a dramatic headland and beach café known as Gara Rock. With panoramic views of the sea, the café is open for teas, cakes, lunch, and afternoon tea before you descend to Gara Rock Beach below. The beach is a sandy cove flanked by rocks, and can also be reached by parking at the Mill Bay car park which is around two miles away on foot. The beauty of this beach is that it is only accessible either on foot or by boat, so it does have a wonderful sense of escapism alongside its rugged splendour. Although it is a little bit of a climb back up to the café, the proximity of food and toilets means that you can set up camp here for most of the day, dipping into the water as and when you choose if the weather is warm enough. Alternatively, it’s the perfect place for a pit stop if you’re spending the day walking along the coast path towards Prawle Point and Dartmouth beyond. Dogs are allowed on the beach but not in high season, so keep that in mind, and while it’s a slightly tricky beach to get to it’s worth the effort… maybe just see if you can get a takeaway brownie and a cup of tea from the café to keep you going!

A bit tricky getting down to the beach but worth it.

September 2023

Super dog friendly beach and the children had a lovely time too, it was pretty busy but it was a bank holiday!

June 2022

VERY PEACEFULL AND NO CROWDS

September 2021

Superb location, excellent service. We were unable to book beforehand but were fortunate to be able to secure a table.

September 2021

Beautiful sandy and pebbly cove... we spent 2 gorgeous days there with our dog! Be prepared for steep climb back to Gara Rock restaurant but worth it!

July 2021

After driving an hour through Devon drizzle we were not impressed to be turned away because we weren't guests. "or you can sit outside and have coffee from the Garavan". Lesson learned: Don't go unless you're booked.

October 2020

We had a beautiful meal with stunning views at Gara Rock. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was divine. We also had spa treatments for the group, who left feeling relaxed and radiant.

September 2020

Lovely secluded beach, dog friendly and easy to get to.

July 2020

Go there for the coastal walk. Fantastic. Stop at the hotel for a coffee, the views are stunning

September 2019

A lovely beach (although quite "weedy"), almost deserted the morning we were there, and well worth the tricky path down and the steep climb back

August 2019

My favourite beach in the country, nothing run of the mill here, lovely views

July 2019

Lovely beach. We arrived early after a steep walk down the cliff path. Had the beach initially to ourselves! Starts to get busier as the day goes on.

July 2018

Mill Bay
(3 miles)

(29)

A sandy beach on the East Portlemouth side of the Salcombe Estuary, at low tide Mill Bay stretches all the way up the coastline to East Portlemouth beach. It has the most wonderful view of Salcombe itself and is popular with everyone, especially families, because of the large swathes of sand on which you can set up camp for the day and enjoy safe, clean swimming conditions. Parking is limited, so the best way to get to it is either by boat or by catching the East Portlemouth Ferry from Salcombe and strolling along. That way you can also nip past The Venus Café by the slipway to pick ice creams, sandwiches and refreshments before settling in for the day. There are rock pools to explore, sandcastles to build and swimming to be done, just make sure you’re careful of any boats coming in and out of the beach. Dogs are welcome at Mill Bay all year round, and it makes an excellent spot to run around with them whatever time of the year. Like the other beaches along this stretch of coast, Mill Bay makes for an ideal place to spend the day right into the evening, although it is a little stroll to the nearest facilities. It’s also a lovely beach to meander across en route towards Gara Rock or on a longer walk along the coast path.

July 2023

Lovely place to spend some time.

July 2023

Lovely clean beach with great views

May 2023

Lovely clean beach, easily accessible from our holiday cottage.

July 2022

Bit of a walk but well worth it - spacious beach, fabulous views and shallow waters.

June 2022

Brilliant beach 3 miles from the cottage

June 2022

Gorgeous little Bay close to where we were staying our dog. Loved fetching his ball in and out the water. Very pretty spot.

April 2022

Lovely beach and you can walk to Gara rock from here and along beach to the ferry crossing to salcombe

March 2022

Great beach. Bumpy access road as sand has blown across it. Slightly marred by 1-2 selfish dog owners who have left their calling cards

November 2021

We were lucky enough to spend 3 days on this beautiful beach. Fabulous place ??

September 2021

Fantastic beach one of the best in the area. Have to get to car park (National Trust) very early if you don't want to carry all your stuff to the beach.

September 2021

We attempted to drive to Mill Bay car park- not a good idea in August! No parking spaces, no turning points. We tried another day, parking at Gara Rock and asking down the bridle path. We have a disabled granddaughter, the walk down was manageable but the return walk was much more difficult. Beautiful beach and worth the walk.

September 2021

Lovely, clean, sandy beach in wonderful location with beautiful views and easy access from Salcombe via the East Portlemouth ferry.

August 2021

Lovely beach, clear water

July 2021

Lovely beach for children to play on.

June 2021

Favourite beach going back to my childhood. The road to it was closed due to a land slip in January. Talked to the workmen who said it was due to reopen November 2020.

October 2020

Lovely beach but this year overrun with people arriving by motor boat- so it felt a little worrying for kids to swim out among them,(and frankly it spoilt the view) and engine noise/fumes at the end of the day as everyone left!

September 2020

Wonderful

September 2019

I endorse all of the other favourable comments and emphasise the urgent need to make the lavatories hygienic. In fact all of the public conveniences are anything but convenient.

September 2019

Lovely beach, handy to have little food caravan selling crepes, drinks and ice cream, good quality too. The toilets were disgusting though and should have been cleaned more regularly, also waste bins overflowing.

August 2019

Great place for a day on the beach. Safe and dog friendly

August 2019

Lovely large sandy beach, perfect for young children who want to play in the strem and build dams, or play in the sea without large waves!

July 2019

Great beach

October 2018

A fabulous beach. Especially great fun at low tide for a water loving Labrador. We enjoyed our visits here. We also loved the passenger ferry from here to Salcombe. Beautiful beach.

October 2018

Beautiful beach lovely and clean. Small car park free to N.T. members. Highly recommended. Drawback no immediate café available. Venus café nearest but a trek if not mobile.

September 2018

Lovely beach well worth a visit. Dog friendly as well. Well worth the £7-50 national trust car parking fee.

July 2018

amazing beach, dog friendly, only downside is the toilets near the National Trust hut are very poor

July 2018

North Hallsands
North Hallsands
(3 miles)

(7)

A quiet beach of fine shingle with a reed bed providing the backdrop, North Hallsands is a picturesque place to visit for anyone staying in one of our holiday cottages in Devon. The beach is divided into north and south, and it’s about nine miles from Kingsbridge facing towards Start Bay. There is level access to the sand from North Hallsands car park, although it is small so keep that in mind in busier months, although there’s also another small car park five minutes away for South Hallsands. You might want to note that there aren’t any facilities or toilets close to the beach, which does mean that it’s fantastically peaceful and an experience that’s all about the natural environment, which ultimately is what we all love about a Devon break! For those bringing their four legged friends with them, the beach is completely dog friendly, welcoming them all year round, so just don’t get carried away with all that fun in the sand and get cut off by the tide in all the excitement. The sand stretches a fair distance at low tide and we wouldn’t want you to get wet!

Great little beach, my furry companion had the best time here. She couldn't contain her excitement. Amazing for us both watching and listening to the sounds of the sea.

December 2023

Really nice walk from Beesands.

October 2023

Lovely walk from Beesands. Takes about half an hour.

June 2023

lovely beach, I walked through there twice on my way along the coast path, really peaceful, the lost fishermans village is also worth visiting just a short walk from the beach

May 2022

Great walk up to Hallsands, interesting piece of history.

April 2022

Lovely little place, great to take a picnic as no facilities but that's part of its charm. Wonderful views of Start Bay and a great base to walk to Start Point and beyond or to Beesands. Well worth a visit.

September 2020

Gorgeous beach, but be careful if you have a dog that likes to run as our Border Collie got very sore paws on the pebbles.

May 2017

Sunny Cove
Sunny Cove
(4 miles)

(7)

Accessed either by boat, via a 10-minute walk through the woods from parking at Mill Bay, or a stroll from the Salcombe to East Portlemouth Ferry, Sunny Cove is a sandy beach which, as you might expect, catches the sun throughout the day, weather pending. It’s on the East Portlemouth side of the Salcombe Estuary opposite North Sands beach and Fort Charles, the ruined fortification that was originally constructed during the reign of Henry VIII to defend the Kingsbridge Estuary against French and Spanish Pirates. It’s a relatively gentle spot for swimming and ideal for picnics, lazy summer afternoons, and reaching on kayaks and paddle boards from other nearby beaches as well as being the perfect spot for building sandcastles. That said, the tide can come in quite quickly so make sure you don’t get caught out and be careful of the swell when bringing boats into the beach. Head there for the day in the summer or as a stop off en route to the café at Gara Rock or a longer walk along the coast path towards Prawle Point. Dogs are welcome all year round but keep in mind that there aren’t any facilities in the immediate vicinity (it would be a 10-15-minute walk along wooded footpaths) so take your sandwiches with you!

October 2021

Lovely little beach worth the walk or paddle!

July 2021

We didn’t know about this. Whilst appreciating the need to keep things to a minimum, local information like this could have been uploaded digitally. We made 2 attempts to locate a beach without success.

October 2020

The beach and the views were superb

September 2019

A nice sandy beach, crowded on a sunny day. but access quite tricky - a long walk for children if no room in the NT car park, and then a long walk back afterwards.

August 2019

Best reached by direct boat access but easy enough walk from ferry or mill bay car park. Our favourite beach.

August 2018

October 2023

It’s excellent thank you!

November 2021

Lovely cottage in wonderful village. Didn’t matter there was no parking as easy to park by the village Green.

October 2021

Yes we enjoyed our stay very much. Prawle Point which was nearby had stunning views. There were not any suitable places to walk our dog apart from the country lanes with cars passing which was disappointing. It was very peaceful with great views of the stars at night. Very clean and well equipped.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed Rosario. There are many footpaths and bridlepaths within minutes walk of Rosario, we will suggest some from of map is provided for future reference-these can also be found online. We do hope to see you again and we can advise where you can walk your dog in the future.

- The Toad Hall Team

September 2021

Would be nice to have towels provided. For the quality of the property it seems odd. We know it was in your blurb but we forgot and had to buy them!

September 2021

We had to contact housekeeping as we we not left and toilet paper, kitchen rolls and the cot was broken and unusable. These problems were quickly sorted and we enjoyed our stay at Rosario. We left our beach towels drying in the boiler cupboard and although we messaged housekeeping to return them ( we will pay postage) we have heard nothing.

July 2021

Shame as everything local was closed due to covid,

October 2020

Really enjoyed our stay and will be looking at different properties with Toad Hall for our next break.

September 2020

Wonderful stay, family and I were extremely impressed by cottage, it’s spaciousness and it’s facilities hence my request to book again next year! Please pass on my thanks to the owners

September 2019

Perfect property/location for us. Doggie gift box and bottle of wine was a nice touch this year. Thanks

August 2019

The kitchen and garden were perfect for our dog

August 2019

We very much enjoyed the cottage, which is ideally located and spacious. There was plenty of room for 5 of us to spread out. The BBQ was really useful.

July 2019

Lovely spacious cottage with enclosed garden. Close to pub and tearoom. Beautiful coastal walks and beaches. 20 minute drive to nearest shop (garage) though as village shop has very limited supplies so take what you need with you.

June 2019

We really enjoyed our stay. East Prawle is such a special village. The children loved the village green, Piglet stores and buying ice creams at the cafe...the grown-ups loved the Pig's Nose! Rosario has a lovely holiday house atmosphere. We (6 adults, 3 children and 1 dog) particularly loved sitting round the large table in the big kitchen dining room after a busy day on the beach and cliff walks.

April 2019

Furnishings getting a bit tired - - we've been a few times over the years. There is quite a bit of mould on the wall in one of the double bedrooms. The dishwasher is almost done for. That aside this property still represents good value I think.

September 2018

Fab stay as always. We love Rosario and changes from last year are a great improvement. Already booked for next year:-)

September 2018

Really did all enjoy it,Sunny Beach was fabulous, with children and dog. Pub welcoming and lively. All the people we met were so nice. A good holiday. Thanks.

September 2018

We had a lovely time at Rosario and really enjoyed the spacious kitchen with it's big table. The surrounding countryside and walks were stunning. Some feedback on the info booklet left by the owners - it needs to be made clear that the 'easy' walks suggested are not at all suitable for the elderly or people with mobility issues!

June 2018

We had a fabulous week in east Prawle, a great location. The Pigs Nose was fun and the food and service at Brittania on the Beach was amazing

April 2018

Note that Gara Rock is closed for refurb. till the summer although the refreshment hut is open. I would also recommend the beach at East Portlemouth as safe for small children with the Venus Cafe and lovely views of Salcombe. Lannacombe Beach is a bit gravely these days !

October 2017

We certainly enjoyed our stay. I have been to this Village around 7 times in the past 10 years and Rosario was new for us. We were very pleased with the Cottage and the facilities within it. I certainly would recommend the Cottage to our friends and most certainly would use it again.

August 2017

Lovely comfortable house in great location. We had a great week with friends.

April 2015

Rosario was a lovely house. It had everything you need. A great big table for family meals. Plenty of room for us. Good position for walkers as coastal path spectacular. Need to get in a car to go to decent beach for kids though. They will enjoy the little boat trip over to Salcombe.

April 2015

Lovely cottage in ideal location

June 2014

Rosario was a lovely property with an excellent location. The house was well appointed and was perfect for our familys needs.
