Minehead is where Exmoor meets the sea and sits on the edge of the Exmoor National Park. Ideal for lovers of the coast and countryside, the town offers traditional seaside fun with its promenade and long sandy beach and pebble beach near the harbour, which stretches for a mile and gives views across the Bristol Channel to Wales. The South West coastal path begins on the quayside and winds its way around the coastline. North Hill where the National Park begins dominates the town and its green slopes can be seen for miles around – it is a short walk from the centre of town so without venturing far you can enjoy the countryside and even spot red deer and Exmoor ponies. Butlins holiday camp can be visited on a day ticket to try the rides and use the pools. Fishing trips and boat trips from the harbour to Lundy Island and the pretty coastal harbour towns of Lynton and Lynmouth. Golf Course overlooking the beach, Farmers' Market on Fridays in the main Avenue with a rich array of fresh local produce to tempt your palate, a visit to Dunster Castle, fortified home of the Luttrells for 600 years, in the medieval village of Dunster, is a must-see visit with its many traditional cream-tea quaint cafes and fine restaurants and stunning gardens.
