Welcome to a comfortable, spacious detached cottage with wonderful views over the village and out to sea, complete with a sunny, private garden in which to relax, as well as its own parking space. All this is unusual in Polperro, a traditional fishing village where quaint fishermans’ cottages crowd around the harbour, evoking the mood of a bygone age, so at South Sea Cottage you get the best of both worlds. Situated on the hill, it is a climb to get to the property, but the effort is well worthwhile, as this pretty location will soon lull you into a relaxed frame of mind. The cottage itself has been lovingly and sympathetically refurbished with wooden floorboards, wooden latched doors, a light and airy lounge with woodburner stove and spacious kitchen diner. There is a delightful master bedroom with those amazing views to enjoy along with your early morning cup of tea as well as two further bedrooms. We can’t imagine a better place to be on a calm summer evening than on the patio, watching the sun set behind the village and enjoying an aperitif whilst tending the barbecue. Polperro provides plenty in the way of distractions, having several traditional inns, restaurants and shops and the nearby port of Looe also provides many of the traditional seaside entertainments. For the more energetic the beautiful South West Coastal path winds around the rugged coastline close to the cottage and popular Talland beach is a five minute drive or a short walk away. Polperro is also a great base from which to explore the many attractions of this Celtic County, with its proud seafaring traditions.

Steps and slopes lead up from the village to the garden and patio surrounding South Sea Cottage. Shaker style kitchen/diner with wonderful sea views, Belfast sink, ceramic hob, eye level double oven, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave and dining table to seat 6. Stable door to rear. Lounge with fantastic harbour and sea views, woodburner stove, three seater sofa, two seater sofa and a flat screen TV with DVD. Shower room with electric shower, hand basin and heated towel rail. Double bedroom off the lounge with 4ft 6in double bed. Stairs up to first floor. Generous master double bedroom with amazing views, 5ft king size pine bedstead decorated with wrought iron features, pine dressing table and multi drawer chest. Twin bedroom with two 3ft single beds, again with views. Family bathroom with double ended bath with central taps and handheld shower, hand basin, WC and heated towel rail.

Large patio surrounds the cottage, equipped with garden table and chairs and stunning sea views. Terraces lead down to a lower patio area with a Spanish style barbecue. Borders planted with shrubs  and sub tropical plants.

Allocated private space for one car. A 150 metre path which is quite steep in places and with steps, leads up through National Trust woodland behind the cottage to the parking area. Please Note: There is no vehicle access to the house itself.

  • Included: Bed linen (no towels), WiFi, electricity, and heating (night storage), initial supply of logs and kindling in the winter (available to buy locally thereafter).
  • Security Deposit: £150.
  • Pets: Well behaved pets welcome by arrangement with THC (living areas only).
  • Telephone: For incoming calls only. Mobile reception poor (Orange and T-Mobile/EE good).
  • Local Facilities: Polperro beach 5 minutes walk. Talland beach 1 mile. Other south coast beaches are easily accessible by car. Shops, pubs and restaurants all in Polperro. Looe with more facilities, 4 miles. Plymouth 25 miles. Truro 29 miles.

Please Note: Owing to the elevated location of the property we would consider it more suitable for the able bodied. Toddlers must be supervised.

Property reviews for South Sea Cottage

Rated 4.5/5 based on 12 reviews

We had a fantastic time and will certainly use Toad Hall Cottages again.

The cottage was beautiful and comfortable and the view was amazing. The access to the property was accurate but understated. We arrived at night and did have a torch but both routes to the cottage had absolutely no signage to help you in the right direction and the woods route was very daunting. The main path from the Police House was not intuitive - the second left turning didn't look like part of a path, more like a dead end. Some simple signage along both routes would have helped immensely. These problems were magnified because we arrived in the dark but the points are equally valid for daytime artival.

We do endeavour to describe the challenging access to this property in transparent detail, both on our website and in the travel directions which we send to guests, so they are not subject to any surprises on arrival, but we are most greteful for your helpful suggestions regarding signage. We will certainly investigate the possibility of placing appropriate notices on neighbouring buildings/gates to assist guests who are finding their way to the property for the first time.

Simply wonderful cottage! It is very pretty in white and blue to match the colors of the seaside. And the views are stunning - the soul catches up with the body just looking out :-) The pretty village is "just" 80 steps down, but well worth the trip. We felt thoroughly rested after just 1 week.

This was a splendid stay! We absolutely loved the cottage and the village and everything about it, from late and lazy breakfasts in the lovely kitchen to sundowners on the terrace overlooking the harbor. The location is very private and still very close to everything you need. We had a hard time to convince the kids to leave the premisses at all, and we all long to revisit many times. We might even become regulars.

Our forth visit to South Sea cottage! We keep coming back because of the excellent presentation of the cottage, it's wonderful sea views and the quaint understated charm of Polperro village. You can leave your car unused all week there is so much to do locally. If you are a good walker then one pleasure is the ability to quickly access the beautiful cliff top walks along the South West Coast path to Looe or Fowey. There are lots of good places to eat in the village as well which makes life easy when you don't want to cook; The Kitchen and Blue Peter Inn being our favorites. We highly recommend South Sea cottage and Toad Hall if you are looking for a sea side holiday in a quiet and quintessential Cornish fishing village setting.

Third visit to South Sea Cottage. Lovely location in a very well presented cottage. The quiet village, quality restaurants, good shops and excellent coast path walking options make Polperro and South Seas cottage a wonderful place to holiday. We will be coming back!

Great property, great views.

There are a lot of dog friendly cottages, & the cottages we have used have all been excellent.

We had a wonderful week at South Sea Cottage. The cottage itself is very well equipped, comfortable and very pretty and the views from almost all windows and the gardens are stunning. We will definitely return!

A very well maintained cottage with stunning views that you could never tire of. Need to be fairly fit to get out and about!
