Enjoy nothing but soft sand, sheltered waters and gorgeous sunsets when you book a holiday in Porth, a seaside village just outside Newquay.
The village sits around a golden sandy cove, considered one of the safest beaches in the area. With lifeguard cover, plenty of rock pools teeming with life and Cornish ice creams on hand, families will love spending lazy summer holidays in Porth. Just north of the beach you’ll find the remains of an Iron Age hill fort on Trevelgue Head, better known as Porth Island, which is well worth exploring.
Of course, no trip to North Cornwall is complete without jumping on a board and paddling out into the famous surf, and luckily Porth is sandwiched between Watergate Bay and Newquay’s Fistral beach, two of the best surfing beaches in Cornwall. Everyone from complete beginners to seasoned pros will love surfing in Newquay, and there are plenty of surf schools and places to hire wetsuits and boards.
The beautiful headland trails of the South West Coast Path run through Porth, so whether you’re a serious rambler or simply want to explore the coastline, make sure to pack your trainers and walk to Newquay, or towards Watergate Bay beach and beyond, while soaking up the far-reaching sea views. Speaking of beaches, you’ll find no end of beautiful bays nearby - Crantock, Holywell Bay, Perranporth and Mawgan Porth are all only a short drive away.
But there’s plenty more to see and do than visit the beach. Families will love the zoo, aquarium, cinema, bowling and soft play areas in Newquay. In Porth, you’ll find a lovely selection of places to eat, from beachy cafes to a cosy pub, the Mermaid Inn. In Newquay town centre you’ll find everything from fish and chip takeaways to fine dining restaurants, while Cornwall’s gastronomic hotspot, Padstow, is around 30 minutes away.

Yes really enjoyed my stay. I have been 3 times. Lovely welcome by Jenny and think great touch welcome pack and toys and treats for my dog Donny. Who is a star in your website. I unfortunately was the victim of fraud while I was there so had to leave a say early as my phone and cards were hacked. Wi Fi in the bungalow saved me as it allowed me to contact my friends by what's app.
July 2022
We really enjoyed our stay at Sunnynook so much so that we booked extra week. It was in ideal location - within 10 mins walk to beautiful Porth Beach and Gwenna Tea Rooms,as well as South West Coastal Path. If you catch the tides right you can walk on the sand all the way to Newquay Town. The bungalow itself was very clean and in a quiet residential area. Just right for a couple with or without canine friend.
