Alexandra Cottage, formerly a sea captain's house, overlooks a pleasant green valley featuring tennis courts and a bowling green and is just a few yards from the edge of the tidal Kingsbridge/Salcombe estuary in the attractive market town of Kingsbridge. It is a level walk alongside the estuary into the town centre with its attractive shops, restaurants and pubs, ferry rides down the estuary to Salcombe, a large leisure centre with pool and all within a few miles of some of the best beaches and coastal paths in the South West. The cottage is very much home-from-home, a welcoming family house that features a most attractive south facing terraced garden with delightful niches to enjoy al fresco meals.
Accommodation:
Front door into hallway. Cloakroom with basin and WC. Inner hallway opens to a tiled open plan dining room/kitchen with wood burning stove, extending circular table to seat 8, TV/video and radio/CD player and dresser. The well-equipped kitchen has fitted limed oak units, an eye level electric double oven, electric halogen hob, microwave, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher and stable door to the garden. An outhouse, close to the kitchen, houses a washing machine, tumble dryer and chest freezer. Opposite the dining room is a twin downstairs bedroom with 3ft beds that can be linked. First floor: Attractive sitting room with a decorative Victorian fireplace, Satellite TV with DVD, video, stereo radio/CD player, large leather sofa and chairs and French windows that open to a safety balcony with attractive garden and valley views. (Note: there is insufficient seating in this room for 8 persons.) Master bedroom with 5ft bed, decorative fireplace, fitted wardrobes. Bathroom with double ended bath, central taps, and power shower over, basin in vanity unit and WC. Top floor: Twin bedroom with 2ft 6in beds, fitted wardrobes and decorative fireplace. Double room with 4ft 6in quality futon (very comfortable and has a thick mattress), fitted cupboards and good valley and estuary views. Smart, contemporary bathroom with double-ended bath with central taps, shower over, separate shower cubicle, basin and WC. Note: All beds are fitted with Putnam mattress toppers.
Outside: At the front of the property is a small garden and enclosed driveway. At the rear the terraced garden is on four levels. The upper patio terrace, 4 steps down from the kitchen, is paved and includes a delightful vine covered arbour with table, chairs, barbecue and chimenea. Shrub bordered lawn levels lead down to the lower gravelled area that has a summer house containing garden chairs and loungers.
