Down Steps

Down Steps

Torcross

Self catering holiday cottage

South Devon

Down Steps is a detached, characterful, no frills, fisherman's cottage, set in a simply stunning location above the beach with panoramic views of the sea. The cottage has a wonderful maritime atmosphere with the relaxing backdrop sound of waves breaking against the foreshore. Much of the original character has been retained with a contemporary kitchen and bathroom added. The garden includes three large decked areas that step down the slope of the garden toward the sea. Steps from the South West Coastal path pass alongside a part of the garden, meander down from the cliff above and onto the beach below. Nearby the village of Torcross has its own promenade, tea rooms and boasts one of the best fish pub/restaurants in the area. This spectacular beach stretches for 3 miles into the distance with sea one side and the largest freshwater lake in South West England, part of the Slapton Ley Nature Reserve, to the other. Watersports equipment can be hired including kite surfing with qualified instructors, single and double kayaks.

Accommodation
Front door entrance into small hall. The cottage has two large downstairs rooms both with low beamed ceilings, one a living room with open fire, three seater sofa, two armchairs, TV/DVD/video and the other with a dining table, seating for 6, a beamed fireplace (not for use), two easy chairs and a modern, new open plan kitchen with plenty of daylight to one end. The kitchen has a sloping ceiling, spotlights and velux window over a large butler sink, granite and oak worktops, cupboards and drawers below, ceramic hob, built in oven, microwave and large stainless steel, glass fronted fridge. Washing machine and freezer in outhouse at the rear of the cottage. Steps up from the kitchen to a small entrance lobby, with back door access to a yard and door to a modern bathroom with walk in shower, bath, washbasin, WC and large heated towel rail.
Upstairs the three bedrooms have polished stripped pine floors, rugs and recessed windows to the front of the house with fantastic views looking out across the sea. Two double bedrooms both with 4ft 6in beds, one with a basin. Bunk bedroom with set of 3ft bunk beds.

Outside:
The garden is in front of the cottage and has three large decked tiers with picnic bench to one side of a central path and steps that lead down to the fenced perimeter wall with views down onto the beach, rocks and sea. To the other side of the path is a lawn and border shrubs. The garden gate opens onto the South West coastal path, steps take you right down onto the beach below; a short walk the other way is Torcross. The beach in front of the adjacent property is private above the high tide mark but there is a public right of way across it.
Children should be supervised while outside the cottage and particularly near the perimeter wall overlooking the beach.
