Overstrand, a smart and extremely stylish, spacious detached property, is beautifully furnished in a contemporary, very comfortable style, fabulously enhanced by the stunning views from every room. The house is set in an elevated position a few yards from the water's edge (dinghy provided) and overlooking the lake-like estuary of the River Yealm full of craft and yachts, surely one of the loveliest scenes in Devon. Enclosed and sheltered by high oak wooded hillsides, the estuary, a sailing mecca, is bordered by the twin villages of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo, with a river ferry and causeway between the two that can be crossed at low tide. All this is a few minutes walk from the house, including shops and waterside restaurant inns. Exceptional walks can be enjoyed in the wooded hills and on to the superb South Devon coastal path, with several rocky and sandy coves nearby, ideal for picnics and bathing. This is a wonderful and extraordinary place to escape to at any time of the year.
Accommodation
Front door into spacious hallways. Oak stairs to a beautiful sitting room with folding glazed doors that open right across one wall and extend out onto the deck railed balcony with stunning views. Three generous sofas, bright cushions and floor rugs, TV with DVD, wood burner and superb lighting complete this exceptional living space. Arch through to dining area with stereo/CD player, table to seat 8, and further arch into a state of the art kitchen, all decorated in smart cream and sage colours. The superbly equipped kitchen with granite work tops, has a central island with wine rack and freezer, double Belfast sink, dishwasher, larder fridge, six ring gas and double electric oven range cooker, microwave, breakfast table and French door to separate decked area and steps down to the lower terrace. Utility room with washing machine. There is a double bedroom on this level, with 5ft bed, folding sliding doors to the balcony and an en-suite shower room with double shower, basin and WC.
On the ground floor are three bedrooms. Master suite with a handsome 5ft bed, TV, French doors to the terrace, a dressing area with fitted cupboards and an en-suite bathroom with bath, overhead shower and separate hand shower, basin and WC. Two most attractive twin bedrooms both with French doors to the terrace, one with 3ft beds and an en-suite bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC; the other a children's room with 2ft 6in beds. Separate shower room with shower, basin in vanity unit and WC.
Outside: The railed deck area outside the living areas is open at one side with steps down to a path to the magnificent lower slate terrace, all enclosed and provided with large table, chairs, parasol and barbecue. A fabulous spot for al fresco meals. The property is approached up a fairly steep lane from the water's edge, with hard standing outside the garage. An inflatable dinghy with oars is provided (4 adult life jackets included) for guests' use (at own risk), and the public slipway for launching is a few yards below the house.
