Perchwood HouseTuckenhaySelf catering holiday houseSouth Devon |
This handsome Georgian house is set in a truly beautiful location on the banks of a languid tidal inlet of the River Dart in the waterside village of Tuckenhay. A timeless refuge from the cares of today, with gorgeous views both up and downstream of Bow Creek, where wildlife abounds and the only other visitors may be small craft wending their way to the nearby waterside inns. Perchwood House is supremely comfortable with spacious rooms and a lovely 'secret' garden with a terrace that commands wonderful views. Come here to totally unwind, moor your own craft alongside the private quay, watch the abundant birdlife, feed the swans, indulge in a little light crabbing and explore the local footpaths. If you can tear yourself away from this idyllic and peaceful haven the house is within easy reach of some of South Devon's loveliest beaches and coves and is convenient for the scenic beauty of Dartmoor.
Accommodation:
Front door into hallway. The spacious oak floored sitting room features a large picture window that overlooks the river, a generous hearth with granite lintel houses a wood burner, and there is a large sofa and plenty of comfortable seating. Wide screen TV with DVD and basic Sky package, stereo/CD player and piano. The large family kitchen diner has a dining table to seat 8, fridge/freezer, integral combination microwave, electric hob, built-under oven, dishwasher and washing machine. Off the hallway is a shower room with large shower, basin and WC. Stairs to the landing. The master bedroom has a 4ft 6in double bed, gorgeous river views, fitted wardrobes and a large en-suite shower room with large shower, basin and WC. Second double bedroom with 4ft 6in bed and a twin bedroom with pretty wrought iron 3ft bedsteads. Family bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Further stairs to the bright loft bedroom (door at the base of the stairs, which are steep), an unusual room set within the eaves of the roof, so headroom is limited in parts. Twin 3ft single beds, with cupboards under the eaves, one housing a tumble dryer.
Outside: Five steps lead down from the road to the front garden, a slate terrace with table and chairs and the riverside. A covered arbour in one corner has a barbecue and seating. The bank is railed with ladder steps down for boat access and mooring. Across the road is a 'secret garden' with terrace, summerhouse and wonderful river views. The garden, which is populated with apple trees is a superb place to relax and perhaps take afternoon tea.
