Rose Cottage, Downderry

Rose Cottage, Downderry

Downderry

Self catering holiday cottage

Cornwall

Dating back to 1760 and reputedly the oldest and most photographed cottage in the village, this tastefully renovated Cornish hideaway has an interesting history. Owned in the 18th century by the famous Plymouth Gin Company as housing for their drovers, the kitchen is converted from the linhay, formally used to stable the donkeys.  None of that rustic hardship remains and now Rose Cottage epitomises sophistication and comfort, without detracting from its heritage.  Spacious yet cosy reception rooms with woodburner stoves and exposed beams welcome you on entering the cottage. The rear decking, above and behind the cottage provides a great area for al fresco dining or relaxing whilst soaking up the sun.  Downderry has an excellent local shop, lively pub as well as a good caf? and restaurant and the beach is only a short walk away.  This is a great base for a stress free holiday in any season and the whole of the scenic south coast as well as the many other attractions of Cornwall are readily accessible by car and you can enjoy a scenic drive on the way.

Previous guests' comments: Superb Cottage, had a lovely time, best yet.  Can't wait to come back.  The Mathews family Berks .  Fantastic cottage, really well equipped and beautifully furnished.  Lovely village and good pub.  Thank you. Sue and Graham Brookbanks.
