Brand new with Toad Hall Cottages for 2012, two welcoming retreats in an idyllic location.
These two delightful holiday retreats (see also CRFARM) are in a secluded location, nestled amongst the soft hills of the picturesque Avon valley in Devon, close to the river that flows through this beautiful part of the South Hams and conveniently just a few miles from the golden sandy beaches of Bantham and Bigbury on Sea. Situated on a working organic farm rearing South Devon cattle, guests can meander through the fields dotted with mature oaks that slope gently down to the half mile of wild salmon and trout in a privately owned river with a riverside beach. Here the children can play whilst the adults tend the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco meal on the picnic furniture. There are some splendid walks to enjoy; either along the riverbank or through the surrounding countryside and guests are welcome to wander in the 80 acres belonging to the farm when appropriate. For
those who enjoy a traditional tipple the welcoming owners are happy to walk the 5 minutes up the hill to show you around their renowned family owned organic cider and apple juice company, Heron Valley, where you can sample and purchase these refreshing drinks. The bustling market town of Kingsbridge is a short distance away at the head of a scenic estuary that flows down to Salcombe, a boating Mecca with plenty of safe sandy family beaches. So with beautiful tranquil surroundings, access to plenty of top class pubs and restaurants, farm shops providing a wealth of local produce and a host of family excursions to choose from we can't think of a better place to spend some time unwinding and enjoying just being in Devon.
Previous guests' comments: "Such an outstandingly beautiful place. We will be back. Thank you Shirley and Steve" The Wood family. "Fantastic holiday, lovely accommodation. Ideal for exploring the local area." The Hillary family.
The Cider Barn.
This former storage barn where the cider barrels were kept has been imaginatively converted with reverse level accommodation to take advantage of the lovely country views. Thick walls and deep set windows with shutters, a large open plan living area with a corner woodburner stove and spacious comfortable bedrooms give the barn a welcoming, traditional atmosphere. Outside there is a lovely paved front walled garden with a wisteria draped pergola over garden table, benches and barbecue, imparting a Mediterranean feel to this alfresco dining area. At the rear of the barn, accessible from three of the bedrooms is a sunny private courtyard.
