This fantastic four bedroom period cottage is situated a short distance from where the creek ends, in a unique and totally secluded position right on the water's edge alongside the estuary near East Portlemouth. A more heavenly spot would be hard to find. Waterhead Cottage has been totally modernised, extended and refurnished to a very high standard and provides exceptionally comfortable, home from home accommodation, with the most incredible estuary and countryside views anywhere in the UK. At low water the tide is out and you can walk across the estuary, over the fields to the local pub at South Pool, about one mile away, but remember the tide for the return trek! All rooms have glorious views and the cottage has a good sized garden. With a steep, mainly grass and gravel 75 yard long footpath down to the cottage, Waterhead may not be suitable for the elderly or those with a walking disability.
Accommodation: Stable front door to L shaped hall. Fabulous, very spacious, light and airy triple aspect kitchen/diner with small sitting area with wood-burning stove and sofa. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and fitted with high quality units, large oil fired 4 door Aga, ceramic hob, dishwasher and larder fridge. Dining area with refectory style table and 6 chairs (garden chairs can be used for additional persons), French windows lead from the dining/sitting area to the patio and garden. Main dual aspect sitting room with exposed ceiling beams, open fire, comfortable sofa, 2 armchairs, window seat, French window to rear patio, and TV (no reception) for playing video's and DVD's only. Utility area off the hall with washing machine, tumble dryer, combi microwave and freezer. Bathroom with bath, shower attachment plus further shower over the bath (similar to a power shower), basin, WC and large heated towel rail. Stairs from the sitting room to small landing off which there are four bedrooms and a bathroom. Triple aspect master bedroom with 2 x 3ft zip-linked beds making a 6ft double bed. Dual aspect twin bedroom with 2 x 3ft beds. Bunk bedroom with full size 3ft bunk beds. Dual aspect family room with 2 x 3ft beds and a set of 3ft bunk beds. Bathroom with bath with shower attachment and further shower over the bath, basin and WC. The staircase and all downstairs rooms have stripped timber flooring with the occasional rug. All upstairs rooms are fully carpeted.
Outside: Patio terrace beside the estuary with table and chairs. Further patio at the side of the cottage. Natural garden laid mainly to lawn with shrubs.
Included: Duvets, blankets and pillows.
Bed linen (duvet covers, sheets and pillow cases) and towels must be brought by guests. Alternatively they can be hired from an independent hire company - details from Toad Hall Cottages.
No cot or high chair although they may be hired if linen is also hired.
Heating: Electricity, central heating and oil for Aga standard charge £20 a week.
Logs provided with honesty box, £5 per basket.
Security deposit £100
Pets: Well behaved pets allowed. £25 per pet per week. While dogs are welcome at Waterhead they must respect the house rules. No dogs on the furniture (especially if muddy and wet) and upstairs is strictly off-limits to all animals (humans exempted!).
Parking: Parking in small lay-by in lane approx. 75 yards from top of the footpath that leads to cottage. Unloading bay at top of footpath.
Telephone: Incoming, local and 999 calls only. Orange mobile reception good.
Tidal estuary outside with sandy beach 1 mile, shop 1 mile, pub half a mile. Kingsbridge 7.5 miles, East Portlemouth with passenger ferry to Salcombe 1 mile.
