Traditionally bathed in the late August sunshine, the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta is a celebration on both land and sea. Preparing to embark upon its 175th year, once again the regatta promises to be a smorgasbord of activities, displays, concerts and sporting contests – guaranteed fun for the entire family!

As well as its packed sailing week on the sparkling waters of Start Bay, the regatta also hosts its traditional array of rowing competitions on Dartmouth Harbour. Aside from the heaving oars and the billowing sails, the usual schedule of activities will be taking place on the river, including; a Kon-Tiki raft race, a steamboat rally, a waterborne treasure hunt, and a river procession.

This year’s regatta sees the return of many old favourites, from the gruelling road race to the classic tennis tournament on Coronation Park. Other land-lubbing activities include: crab catching, pavement drawing, a trolley grand prix, an ice cream eating competition, a dog show…the list goes on!

This year’s musical line-up is looking really impressive with The Break Beat Bandits, Dr Oz, and Tankus the Henge headlining the ‘Sundowner’ gathering on Coronation Park & Gardens (tickets now on sale at The Flavel). If you enjoy a bit of pomp and circumstance, then you’ll love the regatta’s ‘Proms in the Park’ which promises to be ‘an evening to remember’. Lead by the Britannia Royal Naval College RN Volunteer Band, the proms will also welcome vintage vocal trio, The Liberty Sisters, and renowned soprano, Yvonne Patrick.

The crescendo of this grand old ensemble will be marked by two fireworks displays; the first taking place on the Friday evening as a dramatic finale to the Proms in the Park, and the second lighting up the night sky above Dartmouth’s historic harbour as part of the regatta’s Saturday night climax.
