Enjoy a Right Royal Knees-Up at Dartmouth Regatta

It’s one of the South West’s most celebrated gala events and it’s back for another year with aplomb. The historic riverside town of Dartmouth is braced for an action-packed three days full of sailing, sports, air displays, music, food, fireworks…the list goes on!

Yes, you’ve guessed it! We’re trumpeting about The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, those dates in August when this flamboyant maritime community launches into fiesta and welcomes hundreds of visitors to share in the fun of this grand old shindig.

On the water, there’ll be some fierce and hearty competition during the regatta’s packed sailing and rowing schedule, covering a variety of classes and with prizes to be won.

In the air, thousands of onlookers will be treated to breathtaking displays from the legendary Red Arrows aerobatics team, plus appearances from a Chinook rescue helicopter and a fly-past from a Eurofighter Typhoon. And to top it all off, this year, you can expect a visit from the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Lancaster and Typhoon.

Let’s not forget the whole host of zany antics taking place all over the town, some steeped in time-honoured tradition, such as the barrel rolling and waiters and waitresses races, and some just belly-laughingly entertaining….cue the trolley grand prix.

With crabbing competitions, treasure hunts, pavement art, tug of war, there’ll be loads to keep the whole family entertained. If you’re feeling sporty, why not enter one of the regatta’s golf, darts, tennis, road racing or swimming competitions to really test your mettle and maybe etch your name into Dartmouth folklore.

Add in two separate firework displays, an exciting live music line up, street food, pop-up bars, arts and crafts, a fun fair, plus all of Dartmouth’s fabulous pubs, shops and restaurants, and you’ll be set for an exhausting but extremely memorable three days. It’s no wonder this much-loved regatta is considered by many to be the ‘Best in the West’.
