Is Hope Cove South Devon’s best holiday destination for families?

Few places seem to stir the imaginations of our guests as strongly as beautiful Hope Cove, in South Devon. Conjouring memories of childhood holidays, ice-creams on the beach and rock-pool adventures, the village with a name as enchanting as the area itself is a front-runner for Devon’s most family-friendly holiday destination.

With their two sandy beaches, the twin villages of Inner and Outer Hope nestle in the shelter of the mighty Bolt Tail and combine to make Hope Cove. Crab pots and fisherman’s cottages elude to the village’s once reliance on the sea for food and income, but these days fishing activities have scaled back with tourism helping to sustain the local economy.

The beaches, seperated by a slither of headland, are perfect for families with plenty of space for games, sun-bathing and the occasional wave, ideal for wannabe body boarders. The newly refurbished Hope & Anchor Inn in the heart of the village offers excellent dining opportunities, with plenty of space and a range of indoor and outdoor areas. Meanwhile, the cosy Cove Bar just next door is a vibrant, independent cafe/bar hosting live sport and music weekly whilst also serving great food. There’s a well stocked local shop and a brilliant art gallery in the village centre, too.

Hope Cove’s intercepts the iconic South West Coastal Path and allows explorers to head east or west, towards Bolberry and eventually Salcombe in one direction, or just over the hill to the beautiful beach at South Milton Sands in the other. This position, tucked away at the coastal end of a gorgeous South Hams valley, gives Hope Cove a feel of real isolation while the popular towns of Kingsbridge and Salcombe are both within easy reach and offer all of the amenities one might need during a cottage holiday.

A great destination is only as good as the accommodation available however and, once again, Hope Coves ticks all of the boxes with a fantastic range of high quality holiday options. There are hotels and B&B’s that cater for the short stay market while our fantastic range of over 35 holiday cottages offer a broad spectrum of choice from one bedroom apartments to large family homes.

And, of course, when we talk about family-friendly locations, we’re talking about the ‘whole’ family. Over half of our Hope Cove holiday cottages are dog-friendly, as is the pub and the main beach, provided they are kept on a lead during the summer months. Both beaches can be enjoyed and explored by our four-legged friends from October through to April, while the coastal path provides endless walking opportunities.
