Devon Dog Walker Unearths Startling Find
It took just a matter of minutes for stone mason Archie Faiers to discover a giant ammonite thought to be a staggering 190-million-years old!
Inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s recently aired BBC documentary investigating the ancient remains of an ichthyosaur (giant sea dragon), Mr Faiers headed out for a dog walk along a stretch of beach between Seaton and Lyme Regis where he noticed a recent mud slide.
The 21-year-old couldn’t believe his eyes when, after just fifteen minutes of rock chipping, he caught glimpse of a prehistoric relic known as Microderoceras Birchi.
He heaved the lump of rock back to his workshop and began expertly revealing the remnants inside.
Mr Fraiers follows in the footsteps of fellow Lyme Regis fossil collector and palaeontologist, Mary Anning, whose discoveries during the 19th century are considered some of the most significant geological finds of all time.
