Enjoy a real Cornish holiday in Polperro.

The charming fishing village of Polperro lies on the South East Cornish coast. Pretty hillside cottages line the steep wooded banks and overlook its quaint harbour, where for centuries the village fishermen have returned with their catch. The meandering River Pol runs through the village, under the old stone bridges, before it finally meets the sea.

A popular setting for an artist’s easel, the village’s past is rich in smuggling tales, some dating back as far as the 12th century. In the summer months, tourists enjoy this idyllic setting, basking on the golden sands of Polperro beach and enjoying the village’s world famous seafood, caught by local fishermen.

Amongst the narrow streets, you’ll find shops, pubs and eateries, and also some lovely art galleries all showcasing the village’s vibrant arts scene. Among the best pubs in Polperro is The Blue Peter, a cosy, low-beamed Inn which is everything you’d expect from a traditional Cornish watering hole.

Every June, the village hosts the annual free, week-long Polperro festival, when the village is alive with music, arts, crafts, comedy, ceremony, and plenty of food and drink.

Polperro also attracts lots of walkers who come to enioy the spectacular coastal views; following the coastal path to the neighbouring town’s of Fowey and Looe, and exploring Talland Bay beach and the legendry Wilcox cave. Swimmers, too, continually return to this idyllic part of the Cornish coast, bathing in the cool waters off Chapel Cliff.

Polperro is also popular for its fishing trips and pleasure cruises, all run from its busy little harbour; and if the sea is too choppy, you can always while away the hours in the village museum or sit down to a seafood platter in one of Polperro’s award-winning restaurants. Other tourist attractions you’ll find in the area include the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, and the Restormel Castle. Find out more in our Polperro destination guide, here.
