Cornwall’s Spookiest Pumpkin Patches

There are plenty of ghoulish goings-on in Cornwall this half-term holiday. Here’s a quick tour of some of the pumpkin patches and spooky trails opening their creaky gates for Halloween…

The pumpkin fields of Trevaskis Farm are ripe for picking. Come and claim your prize pumpkin and carve it into a spooky Halloween doorstep lantern. Trevaskis Farm is set amid 28 acres of enchanting Cornish countryside. No need to book, just turn up. Prices range from £1.95 up to £3.50. Pick Your Own is open 10am – 5pm every day.

Lobbs Farm Shop, Heligan

The Lobbs Farm Shop has been supplying it customers with top-quality Cornish produce for generations. Pop down to the rolling pastures of Heligan to pluck a handsome pumpkin. Tickets for this year’s Autumn Fest (running throughout the half-term holiday) can be pre-booked by calling the farm shop. Children can enjoy an exciting tractor ride to the pumpkin fields plus a photo in the hay bale pumpkin booth as a memento.

Smeaton Farm, near Saltash

Pit your wits against the Cornish Maize Maze on Smeaton Farm. Grab yourselves a plump pumpkin and take on the pumpkin quiz. The pumpkin patch will be open from 24th – 31st October, 10.30am – 5pm. Entry is £4 per person and free to under 3s.

On Halloween night, the maze transforms into a labyrinth of horrors. Expect fire jugglers and scare and stunt actors, plus a sizzling BBQ. The maze will be open from 6pm with a timed ticket entry. Enter if your dare!!

It’s pumpkin season at the Heligan Harvest and that means plenty of opportunities to get your hands dirty and all sorts of exciting, muddy adventures to be had. Afterwards, warm up round the firepit with some toasted marshmallows and scary stories. Resident shire horse, Courage, will be putting on a harvest display, and you can also look forward to working dog demonstrations and piglet feeding. Hearty, seasonal lunches will be on offer at the Heligan Kitchen, while the garden team will be on hand to answer questions about anything from seed sowing to onion stringing. You’re invited to join in with the garden’s celebrations, thirty years since its discovery. The event will be running up until 1st November.

Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, near Truro

Take a spooky tour of the farm and find the hidden pumpkins to spell out a spooky word. Follow your Healeys Cyder Farm map around the giant cyder vat and museum of cyder, crossing the cobbled courtyard to the yummy jam kitchen before meeting some of the resident farm animals. Unscramble the carved letters in the pumpkins to win your sweet treat. The Healeys Pumpkin Trail will be open until November 1st. Free admission for annual pass holders and £3 for day tickets.

It’s one of Cornwall’s biggest Halloween attractions. Can you hold your nerve as you visit the witch’s grotto, bug ball and house of horrors?…just some of the spooky happenings on offer at Camel Creek this half-term holiday. Every child who visits the park receives a free pumpkin and the chance to enter a pumpkin carving competition. ‘Halloweek’ will run until the 31st October.

Dairyland Farm World, Newquay

Dairyland Farm World will be undergoing a ghoulish makeover this October, transforming into ‘Scary Land’ from the 24th October – 1st November. Tickets are available via the Dairyland website. Expect a spooky time exploring the pumpkin patch and Halloween haybarn, try your hand at pumpkin carving and some creepy craftworks, and get to pat the pets. Expect plenty of spine-tingling fun whatever the weather.
