June 2019

We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Rick Stein's in a lovely setting with sea views. I am coeliac so requested a gluten free menu which was provided with no fuss. When the freshly baked bread arrived before the meal I was surprised and pleased to receive some GF bread and butter and the 3 course meal was very good for me and my companions. We've been to Rick Stein's restaurants in Padstow and the food in Sandbanks was equally as good.

May 2019

Had a wonderful evening with good service and of course excellent food - would we return - you bet. The views from the restaurant were idyllic and added to our enjoyment - thank you.

Swanky venue! Live singer (Thurs pm) was very good

September 2023

Lovely decor, great food and staff, excellent location if staying at sandbanks, but still worth a visit of you are staying a bit further away.

August 2023

we had a lovely meal at this resetaurant whilst staying in Sandbank, we was a little confused when trying to find the restaurant we had looked at the website, which was out of date and still registers it as being called 'Oriel', but on asking a staff member we were told it had changed its name back in April. Food was lovely, service and staff very good. Highly recommend

wonderful day trip to the Island, beautiful place to visit, highly recommended

April 2024

Brownsea Island ferry was great, however we would have liked the choice to stay a little longer on the island our 3 hours went very quickly.

November 2023

Great way to see around the area and learn more about the islands.

August 2023

Unfortunately the ferry from Sanbanks to Brownsea Island has closed and we had to drive round to Poole

April 2022

to visit Brownsea Island you need a ferry trip - this ferry provider is best used from Poole Quay. Here you can find a multi-storey carpark close by. The ferries were running regularly on our recent visit and we went on the first one - 9:30 - booking via the National Trust website - a requirement during Covid times. We found the ferry trip well run and were lucky to be able to sit on the upper desk in the open air.

September 2021

Great attraction, beautiful location plus the added bonus of the red squirrels

July 2019

Very convenient little boat service across to a Brownsea Island. The children loved exploring, the nature park was a great idea and we spotted a red squirrel! Great location for a picnic in a very “green” space.

June 2021

June 2021

Great beach for little ones

September 2020

The cleanest beach we have been to in Britain and in these strange times, grest social distancing from everyone there

August 2020

Amazing beach - who needs the med when you have sandbanks

August 2020

Had an excellent stay over New Year. Clean, well equipped and warm. Everything we hoped for. Handy for beach and ferry, with Swanage, Poole and Bournemouth not far away. Would definitely like to return.

January 2020

We rented a hut on Sandbanks which was brilliant as with 5 children, we had a lot of stuff that could be left there all week. The only thing that lets this beach down is the cost of parking for the day and the terrible shortage of ladies loos. People are using the loos to change in and this results on ridiculously long queues on sunny holiday days. The beach is beautiful and very clean and safe for small children..

September 2019

Fantastic beach out of season, very dog friendly

November 2018

Excellent. Clean and child safe

July 2018

A nice property with good location to nearby beach and ferries. (Although ferry traffic gets busy on Panorama Road at times) Layout of property good on 3 levels. Only disappointment was level of cleanliness dirty floors and balcony furniture. Something easily remedied

July 2018

Shell Bay Beach
(Less than a mile)

(4)

Shell Bay beach is an unspoilt sandy beach, backed by dunes and heathland which gives it a beautifully wild feel. With spectacular views across the bay to nearby Bournemouth, it also provides a good vantage point for watching the ships passing in and out of Poole Harbour.

Except during the busiest summer months, the beach is usually a haven of tranquillity. Situated on the south side of the mouth of Poole Harbour, at the very tip of the National Trust owned Studland Peninsula, it's harder to reach but well worth the effort. Either drive along the full length of the peninsula from the Swanage end, and you'll find Shell Bay is the last of Studland's beautiful beaches. Alternatively, catch the ferry from Sandbanks which runs regularly and carries vehicles, foot passengers and cyclists across the entrance to the harbour to the opposite shore.

The beach is great for family-friendly bathing, fishing and a variety of watersports including sailing and windsurfing. It also has toilets and plenty of parking. There is a designated naturist area between Shell Bay and Knoll Beach.

Dogs are welcome all year round, during the winter months there are no restrictions but between 1 April and 30 September they are required to be on a short lead (max 2m).

Shell Bay Seafood Restaurant lies opposite the beach - an outstanding, Michelin-listed eatery with fine views out over Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island.

Stayed in Sandbanks many times - this was the 1st time we caught the ferry on foot - had a lovely peaceful time walking the dog. Will definitely make a return trip next time down ?

October 2023

Beautiful and quiet

September 2023

Why did the system not accept my review until I upped my review from 2 star to 3 star. Funny that!

January 2020

Disappointed with the beach. It has deteriorated since we were last there, probably due to weather. There are now 2 streams crossing it which means that you have to do a detour to carry on walking on the beach. This in turn is causing additional damage and wear to dunes etc. All it needs is the National Trust to spend a little money to put some stepping stones in

Shore Road Beach, Sandbanks
(2 miles)

(1)

Shore Road is a golden sandy beach with a promenade that stretches for miles along the beautiful Sandbanks peninsula - perfect for a seaside stroll or cycle (except during peak times in July & August from 10am to 6pm when cycles are not permitted).

Famed for its Mediterranean-style cafes and outstanding views across the harbour to the Purbeck hills and Brownsea Island, this beach is very family-friendly thanks to its gentle slope into clean waters and seasonal lifeguard cover.

Dogs are not allowed on the main beach from 1st May - 30th September, however they are permitted on the promenade on a lead all year round.

This Blue Flag standard beach has several watersports hire shops and many other beach facilities, including plenty of parking, cafe/restaurant, beach shop, beach huts and deck chairs for hire, toilets and outdoor showers, and reusable water bottle drinking water refill points.

Studland Beach
(2 miles)

A stunning piece of natural coastline featuring a four-mile stretch of sandy beach and views of Old Harry Rocks and the Isle of Wight. Ideal for water sports, sandcastles and wildlife safari. Designated trails through the sand dunes and woodlands, allow for spotting of deer, insects, birds and a vast array of wild flowers. There’s a local café/bistro and a mobile refreshment van, but this is also the most picturesque place for a picnic.

Canford Cliffs Beach
(2 miles)

A beautifully quiet and tranquil stretch of golden sandy beach where you can enjoy a swim in crystal clear waters or relax in the sunshine on the soft sand with a picnic and a book. Apart from toilets on the promenade, there are no facilities at the beach itself but the shops, bars and restaurants of Canford Cliffs are within easy walking distance.

August 2023

loved our week at 5 redsails, we enjoyed the property and location very much. Felt very well looked after, we had a message from the key holder prior to arriving, saying we could access the property slightly earlier which was really helpful, and she was on hand with any queries we had, which was great... also the folder within the property was very detailed and offered alot of information. Would definteily recommend

August 2023

We had a fantastic stay. The house was beautiful and in such a fabulous position.

July 2023

We had a problem with the Master Suite shower tray which was leaking. Reported to Fiona and dealt with immdiately. Could not have been any quicker. Fiona and team are a great asset to the owners & Toad Hall.

June 2023

August 2022

Very enjoyable stay

July 2022

Fiona the caretaker deserves a special mention as always on hand to resolve any issues

July 2022

Property is very bright, spacious and with parking, necessary in Sandbanks. Nice to have balcony for evenings but building work in the neighbouring property was quite disruptive during our stay, starting early in the morning and meaning that sitting outside was not possible at other times.

July 2022

Would stay again. Thanks

June 2022

Overall this is a lovely lovely property, and a fabulous location - I imagine we will be back again!!

April 2022

Lovely holiday home, Nearest small supermarket quite a walk away as were places to eat.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at 5 Red Sails. Sandbanks is a small peninsula which does offer a supermarket and restaurants, all of which are within a 10 to 15 minute walk from the property.

We are so glad you had a lovely time.

August 2021

All kitchen equipment i.e. oven trays, frying pans etc., in dire need of replacement. Kitchen ceiling lights not working, only found out after dark, lounge/ sitting area/sofa needs updating due to staining. Also the breakfast table had various stains. Various carpets throughout with very visual stains needs professional clean or replacement. The worst was in the ground floor entrance twin bedroom was found behind the bookcase a soiled pair of underwear and a half bottle of juice. Toilet brushes all need replacing (badly soiled). Top floor master suite needs a warning strip concerning the low angle of ceiling to access the wardrobe area. The outside patio area and table and chairs should have been cleaned prior to occupation.

June 2021

We did enjoy our stay due to the location, however I felt like I had to clean the property before I felt comfortable

May 2021

Great location close to the ferry and beach. Lovely place and really pleased with how efficient Toad Hall Cottages were. Good comes throughout. Would definitely use them again.

August 2020

Best stay we have had at a property in England, really can't complain about anything, Fiona and her staff were excellent at the property many thanks

October 2019

Overall a great stay at 5 Red Sails, thanks to Toad Hall Cottages for an easy process of booking from start to finish. Will most definitely recommend.

October 2019

We had a lovely stay, there was an issue with one of the single beds was broken and one of had to sleep on floor on mattress, but Fiona did offer to send someone to fix it and we said we can manage. Also was a little upset the ferry was out of action due to repairs which I know you had no control over. Thankyou for letting us book with you. Regards Kim
