We did contact the caretaker as we couldn't see any tea towels in the kitchen. We read in the information book that we were meant to have milk and a voucher for the local shop. These had not been left. We mentioned all these to her. She apologised and said she hadn't checked to make sure they had been left. We eventually found two new tea towels at the back of a top shelf in the cupboard in the utility room. We put them both out on the kitchen worktop. She asked if she could call round the following day to bring the milk and voucher. I said yes. We were out the following day but on our return we found the voucher, 6 eggs and milk in the fridge. The second tea towel had disappeared. When we phoned her we had to leave a voice message. She sent texts back to us. Knowing we had an issue with the heating I would have thought a phone call would have been courteous but we heard nothing - not even a text to ask if we were ok. Not very "caring". When we arrived at the property there was a demudifier plugged in in the master bedroom but the red "off" light was showing. A door was open and when I looked it was a storage area and so I closed this. When we arrived back the following day and saw that she had left the milk etc, I went downstairs to see that the dehumidifier had been switched off and the door to the storage cupboard was open!!. I think this is totally unacceptable. I gave permission for her to leave items in the kitchen, NOT to go downstairs to the bedroom (or anywhere else) where all our personal belongings were. I was shocked at the dead flies on the carpet around the window in the lounge and the number of cobwebs at low level. Around skirting boards, a large cobweb at the bottom of the bedroom window with a large long legged thing trapped in it and a huge cobweb on one of the kitchen skylight windows which covered the whole width and was really thick. This was lack of cleaning and not just a week or so. The kitchen floor wasn't very clean. Lots of bits around it. A very nice property with good furnishings but spoilt by the lack of attention to cleaning. A couple of days before we left I saw a man standing at the side of the property looking through the window of the bedroom. He then let himself into the garden and was mowing the lawn. Our car was parked right by the gate so why did he have to come and look both through the bedroom window and up at the lounge window?
Enjoyed the stay. Sam the caretaker was very prompt in dropping off some recycling bags when I let her know that we only had one type of bag. I did have to text her to let her know we were having problems getting hot water. It was very hit & miss which did spoil things for us somewhat. Sam said she would contact the owners but that wasn't much help to us while we were there.
Wonderful stay in a fabulous property with amazing views across the valley. Friendly neighbours too! The property felt really spacious so we all had a bit of privacy - helpful when two families are sharing. Thank you for a special holiday.
We loved our stay! The barn was gorgeous, so homely and comfortable, with incredible views from the lounge and master bedroom. The outside space was also wonderful - we had so much space for our toddler to run around, and the views over the countryside were so beautiful. I was also impressed at the communication from the housekeeper, who was very welcoming and helpful. Thanks for a fantastic time!
Great place, well appointed - a lovely week.
