Adam's Orchard, an enchanting detached thatched cottage, is without doubt very special. A sympathetic new build in the traditional Devon style the cottage is furnished to a high standard. The wood floors, pine latch doors, polished beams and delightful furnishings offer a high level of comfort in this desirable South Devon village. The cottage is only a few steps from the river Dart and beautiful Mill Pool, where the creek has been dammed to form a picturesque, tree lined pool in the lovely village of Stoke Gabriel on the upper reaches of the River Dart estuary. It is a quietly tranquil place and yet it has everything, a village shop/Post Office selling local produce and newspapers, a small gallery selling local photos and gifts, 2 pubs and the excellent River Shack cafe/bar on the quay that is a minute's walk from the cottage.
A gentle tangle of cottages lead down to the river, where Adam's Orchard is to be found, and here it is possible to launch a small dinghy or canoe from the quay - this is a boating paradise and is ideal for canoeing and kayaking. Crabbing is a favourite pastime for children and there are plenty of riverside and woodland walks. The English Riviera towns of Torquay and Paignton are a few miles away and a boat trip on the River Dart is a must, with the fascinating Agatha Christie National Trust House and Gardens at Greenway a few minutes down river.
From the open porch, the front door leads directly into the dining room with internet/FM radio/bluetooth enabled CD player, dining table to seat four and stairs to the upper floor. The most attractive sitting room features a fine brick chimney breast that houses a coal effect gas stove, with two sofas and TV/DVD with Freesat. The kitchen, off the dining room, is well equipped and fitted with shaker style units, dishwasher, halogen hob and built-under oven, washer/dryer, microwave and fridge/freezer. Downstairs cloakroom with basin and WC. Carpeted stairs to the landing. Pretty double bedroom with 5ft bed and large wardrobe with shelving. Small twin bedroom with 3ft beds and fitted cupboards. The luxury bathroom has a bath, basin and WC and separate shower cubicle with power shower.
From the village lane, solid wooden gates open into the garden with steps up to a terrace in front of the cottage provided with table and chairs. Further steps wind up to a patio area with views of the Mill Pool and there is a pretty summer house with comfortable seating, a lovely spot to enjoy an evening drink.

Very much. Would go again and recommend
Lovely cottage, great views nearby and very peaceful and relaxing. There was also the added bonus of the summer house and garden - very private and well thought out.
Fantastic cottage what deams are made of
Enjoyed our stay; lovely village & lake. Garden excellent for sitting out.
Wonderful break in a well appointed and beautiful cottage within a breath taking location. would recommend.
Very enjoyable even after losing two days due to the snow.
Lovely stay at Adam’s Orchard. Great little property in a great location with local amenities - shop and 2 pubs in walking distance. Our second stay here and would return again!
Very much enjoyed our stay and will book through your company again
the cold and rain did not deter us from enjoying a wonderful week in the cottage - as usually we are delighted with the cottages presented by Toad Hall cottages.
Great stay...lovely cottage!
We hope to book this cottage again next year. Perfect.
Yes we enjoyed our stay, the weather was not at it's best :( but nothing we can do about that. Everything else was lovely, just the yellow sofa in the lounge was bit past it's best, but the beds were extremely comfortable. We had everything we needed. The garden was very safe for the dog and there are some beautiful walks. The location was great, the River Dart was only a short walk, and superstores only 2 -3 miles away with everything you need and the English Riviera just a few more miles away. Loved our visit to to China Blue on our last day, wish we had visited earlier and then had time for a further visit :)
We had a lovely time the cottage is beautiful home from home I could sell up and move there , we have stayed in quite a few cottages in Devon and this is our favourite great location , a little hidden treasure
A thoroughly enjoyable stay in a great location. A great find and fantastic customer service from Toad Hall Cottages, couldn't have asked for better. Thank you
We had a fabulous week, the cottage was beautiful and very cosy and comfortable. The caretaker also came round to check everything was OK. Exceptional service all round. Thank you.
Excellent Cottage in a beautiful part of England
Lovely cottage, as always. This is our fourth time at Adam's Orchard. There will be a fifth!
This was an excellent holiday, helped by the very good weather! Adams's Orchard is in a lovely location, close to the Mill Pond and all the associated amenities. The cottage is tastefully decorated, comfortable and equipped to a high standard. The garden is lovely to sit in and the summerhouse a real bonus. Brian, the caretaker who lives opposite, is very pleasant and helpful. The welcoming cream tea was a nice touch. The cottage manual about all the available facilities was obviously written by someone with a very good wry sense of humour and made for a good read! It was refreshing to read one that didn't emphasize negatives such as 'don't do.....' It was good we could bring the dog along too. She enjoyed many walks around the village. Overall this is an excellent cottage in a lovely location and we plan to visit again soon.
Lovely cottage. We felt instantly at home and relaxed fully. Love the people in the village who were very friendly. I loved being able to play our music on the Bose system. We will be back.
Our first visit to the cottage and it was all we hoped for and more. Beautiful area for both humans and the pooch. The knowledge of this wonderful cottage to return to was always present! Ideally situated for trips to Brixham, Torquay, Dartmouth and wonderful Dartmoor. We will be back again.
We had an amazing time in Stoke Gabriel. Adams Orchard is everything we dreamed about. Crabbing and kayaking made our holiday. We will definitely come back, hope the red arrows who flew over the cottage do too!!
Thank you for a lovely week at Adams Orchard and Stoke Gabriel. We enjoyed exploring the local area and was always a pleasure to come back to our clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage at the end of a busy day. A long soak in the lovely bath was great for our aching calves! Thanks again for our time here, it is a beautiful, well maintained cottage in an idyllic location.
