Description

Blackberry Cottage is a light and airy, contemporary reverse level cottage, one of several in Buckland Court which is ideally placed close to the popular and pretty village of Slapton and the stunning coast in South Devon. Also nearby there is the world famous nature reserve at Slapton Ley, a 3 mile beach and several excellent real ale pubs. Dartmouth and Kingsbridge are within 15 minutes drive, both with interesting shops, fine restaurants, boat trips, sailing and much more. Totnes, a quaint Elizabethan town is 9 miles away and Dartmoor, with wonderful walking and spectacular scenery is within easy reach. Buckland Court is well situated for a wide range of indoor and outdoor pursuits including golf. A gate from the courtyard opens out to a sweep of grass and orchard (1.5 acres) including a large pond populated by ducks. There is a built in barbecue with picnic benches where guests can relax and young people can play outdoor games and a children’s adventure playhouse on stilts with a slide and swings and a pool table/tennis table in the laundry room for those rainy days.

The cottages are very comfortable and well furnished and set around a pretty courtyard with summer hanging baskets and benches. The kitchens are well equipped with gas hobs, cooker extractor hoods, built-under ovens, fridges and microwaves. All beds (except Blackberry) are standard size (4ft 6in doubles, 3ft singles). The bathrooms all have a shower over the bath, hand basin and WC. All cottages have central heating, a feature gas fire in the living area and are equipped with iron and ironing board. There is a large communal laundry room with coin operated washing machine, dryer and freezer. There is a large range of local information and in season a small incubator, who knows what you might see hatch during your stay! Water is supplied by filtered and tested borehole water.

The resident caretaker keeps a whiteboard up to date with the latest sightings of wildlife, can lend you a bat detector, a metal detector or a telescope and is conversant in German and French. He is always ready with suggestions that will help you get the most out of your holiday.

June 2018

Our stay at Blackberry was very enjoyable. We really had a wonderful time and the cottage was lovely. Simon the caretaker was extremely helpful and a truly wonderful man.

May 2018

We absolutely loved the property and location, and the high standard of furnishings and cleanliness. Loved the garden too and the peaceful surroundings.

July 2017

Had an amazing week. Blackberry was just lovely - clean, bright, well equipped, great quality furniture & smal touches like great bedding & towels - bed in master bedroom was unbelievably comfy! We loved the location, tucked away & tranquil but close proximity to beaches & amenities. Garden was a particular hit with our boys (5 & 6), safe enough to allow them to play outside on their own. Simon was lovely - helpful & knowledgeable & made us feel very welcome. We had an issue with the boiler on the last day so had cold showers but he was round early, fixed it & told us we could stay on beyond 10am to shower if we needed to. All in all a great holiday in very nice accommodation. Will certainly consider returning. Thank you!

April 2016

This is a lovely remote spacious cottage with lots to do in the surrounding areas. We enjoyed a very relaxing time with long walks on the beach and good pub food nearby. An excellent stay would definitely visit again.

August 2015

What an amazing place! Very remote and scary narrow roads but very well worth the effort to get there.

July 2015

Excellent service. In particular, Simon Chapman the caretaker at Buckland Court, was very kind, friendly and helpful.

May 2015

The property was fantastic. My 2 children had plenty of space to enjoy inside and outside of the property. The caretaker is so friendly and knowledgeable about the animals and area. Was a brilliant holiday and will definitely be visiting again.

April 2014

We have stayed at Buckland Court many times before. This time the weather was stunning and the garden was looking the best we have seen it. Simon was as fabulous as ever and we really loved Blackberry cottage. Would love it to have WIFI though.

April 2014

Simon the caretaker was fabulous! Nothing was too much trouble and he was full of ideas and places of interest to visit. Would love the cottage more if it had Wifi! A great week as usual!

January 2014

August 2013

Blackberry was a beautiful cottage, and much more spacious than the website suggested. It is decorated to a high standard and very comfortable. Grounds are beautiful. Simon the caretaker was very welcoming and a goldmine of information. The only minor thing was that we had to keep the window in the bunk bedroom closed, as two bats got in the first night and flew around the room (it was also kind of cool, but they were quite noisy and flew really close to my head...)

August 2013

The cottage was in most respects excellent, we did not however realise it was quite so isolated although to be fair you did give distances to things
