Description

Blacksmiths Cottage is a truly charming, 200-year-old semi-detached stone cottage enjoying stunning countryside views to the rear and attached on one side to what used to be the old village Smithy. The pretty accommodation has been modernised throughout whilst retaining its character features with the help of a woodburning stove, whitewashed ceiling beams, and a lovely stable door in the kitchen from which to admire the views.

The hamlet of Washbourne is formed around the small valley of the river Wash, a tributary of the River Dart, and is situated in an idyllic setting of unspoilt tree-lined banks, secret creeks and rolling countryside.

For those who can tear themselves away from this peaceful haven, the village of Harbertonford is just 1.5 miles away with two handy village stores and a pub. The beautiful Creekside village of Tuckenhay is also just 1.5 miles stroll away with two extremely popular pubs to sample.

Washbourne also lies equidistant between the bohemian town of Totnes and the naval town of Dartmouth. The eclectic market town of Totnes with its enticing narrow streets and renowned for its markets, art galleries, unusual independent shops, restaurants and cafes including organic and specialist food suppliers.  Dartmouth, in the other direction, is a hotspot for all sailing activities and renowned for its upmarket shops and restaurants.  Alternatively, you could just lose yourself along one of the many stunning countryside and coastal walks available on the doorstep and after a day’s exploring, why not sip cocktails or dine alfresco in the delightful private garden. However you decide to spend your holiday; this lovely cottage won’t fail to delight!

Please note: Bedroom 3 is not suitable for children under the age of 6 due to there not being a stair gate in place.

Ground floor: Front door to open plan living dining room. Dining area with table and seating for 5. Lounge area with 2 sofas, feature stone hearth with wood burner, Smart TV, DVD player, 3 windows overlooking the country lane and French doors opening on to the delightful garden. Kitchen with electric hob, built-in electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with ice box and stable door and pretty window overlooking garden. First Floor: Master bedroom with 4ft 6 double bed and window overlooking rear garden and countryside beyond. Bedroom 2 with 4ft bed (suitable for one person) with window overlooking also overlooking rear garden and countryside beyond. Family bathroom with bath with electric shower over, WC, basin and heated towel rail.  Inner hall with stairs to second floor:  Bedroom 3 (attic room with restricted head height as in the eaves - please mind your head on the beams!) with two 3ft single beds and Velux windows providing views over the countryside. En-suite bathroom with bath, basin and WC.

Lovely homely cottage. One of the best we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in quite a few! Recommend the 'Maltsters Arms' in Tuckenhay and 'The Cott Inn' at Dartington for excellent dining. Thank you for the generous welcome pack.

October 2018

The welcome pack was very much appreciate and the magazines too. It felt like home from home, the cottage is gorgeous and full of character and had everything we required. The weather has been good and we enjoyed the local attractions and places to visit. The patio was a lovely sun trap and we enjoyed a glass of wine in the early evening, with the sound of birds and the sheep. We shall return in the future for a longer period!

October 2018

Lovely cosy and homely cottage with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday. Beds were very comfortable and the little touches like the welcoming pack were very much appreciated.

October 2018

We had a lovely stay and the cottage added to that. Thanks to the owners and housekeeper for making it lovely.

October 2018

Beautiful, quaint cottage in a lovely location. We've had a perfect and relaxing holiday away with our dog. Fantastic walks and pubs nearby and lots of interesting places to visit. We really appreciated the welcome pack and particularly the great magazines and toiletries - it's a lovely gesture and made us feel very at home and comfortable. Would definitely recommend this cottage to friends and family. Thank you.

October 2018

Yes thanks, we had a marvellous time. The enclosed garden was perfect for the terriers and the location was idyllic. The decor was very restful - mercifully without any hideous brown leather furniture.

Blacksmith's Cotage is only about a mile from the main Totnes / Dartmouth / Salcombe road to South Hams area and very convenient for nipping into Totnes. Parking area very useful in area of narrow lanes. Cottage was very well prepared, thoughtful and very clean. Excellent TV and WiFi connection. Toad Hall communicated well.

August 2018

We had a fabulous fortnight here. Both Toadhall staff and the owners were great sorting out the wasp invasion, thanks to the gardener for his help! The cottage is lovely and comfortable, is in a great location and I am truly going to miss the views whilst washing up!

June 2018 Thank you so much for letting us stay in your gorgeous cottage. We had a truly amazing time here and would love to return one day. The location is perfect and we will certainly miss those beautiful and sounds. The property itself is full of character and offered all we needed. This was certainly a lucky find and were sorry to be leaving! Thanks again for a great holiday!

July 2018

We have had an amazing time staying in this pretty cottage. We felt at home as soon as we walked through the door. The weather has been gorgeous. The property is in a great location for visiting places either on foot or by car. Most evenings we have sat in the garden and enjoyed the view and wildlife and the company of the local sheep, who didn't seem bothered by our Cocker Spaniel. We hope to return sometime in the near future.

July 2018

Thank you very much for a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage. We came with our 4 year old Grandson and he had the time of his life, being woken in the morning by the sheep he found hilarious! Our best day was when we visited the Woodlands Theme Park, excellent day out if you have children, so much to do! We would definitely come back and enjoy this amazing place again, thank you!

June 2018

The owners have obviously given a lot of thought around the detail - the little touches were most welcome.
