This quaint old thatched cottage is tucked away in a lovely wild garden within a quiet valley. It has tiny windows that look out onto surrounding woodland, often frequented by deer. Low doorways and beams, an open fireplace, period furniture and twisty cottage stairs all add to the atmosphere and would best suit visitors who are looking for an old fashioned retreat from modern life and are used to and enjoy older traditional cottages of this type.
Cosy sitting room with old beams, TV and open fireplace.
Kitchen with electric hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer.
Simple bathroom off kitchen with bath, hand shower and hand basin.
Separate WC off bathroom.
Four steep stairs up and three steps down (with access through a very low traditional cupboard door) to
Bedroom 1 with double bed and garden access through a French window.
Further steep stairs to First Floor.
Bedroom 2 a large attic room with twin single beds and a good quality fold away bed for occasional use.
Due to the character and nature of the property the stairs are very narrow and steep.
The large garden, with direct access into the forest, has a little brook running through it and is a haven for birds and other wildlife. The garden is not fully enclosed and adjoins the garden of the owner’s cottage. Please note that there is a short walk along the garden path from the parking area to the cottage.
Private parking located at the front of the grounds for 2 cars, shared with another property Brookside (no longer available for holiday letting).

Always a great visit to Brook Cottage. Looking to return in March 2019
Beautiful cottage in a magical setting. Garden gate leads into the forest. Fantastic location with so much to visit and see.
We had a wonderful time at Brook Cottage. The location was perfect, stepping out of the garden straight into the forest was fantastic. The garden was a total pleasure to spend time in, and we ate breakfast out there every morning. The cottage itself was absolutely stunning, very clean and well equipped. Perhaps not suitable for the elderly or extremely tall, due to the typical cottage quirks! There was plenty to do in the local vicinity, and so many dog friendly places too. A very quiet and relaxing holiday. We would definitely return to the New Forest, and to Brook Cottage.
Another lovely week in this beautiful cottage. It was clean and tidy and the lawns had recently been cut, plus they were cut again during our stay. My only complaint is that there were no New Forest District recycling bags for us to use, so all of our rubbish had to go in normal black bags.(supplied by us). We are looking forward to staying again next year.
Perfect secluded cottage for peace and tranquility
Fantastic location. Great to able to access foot paths, straight from the front door. Great place to relax and listen/see the different array of birds.
The cottage and it's location were wonderful. We didn't want to come home. A perfect retreat!
loved our stay and would do so again
Fantastic cottage in a beautiful setting and it was one of the best holidays we have had. Our dogs loved the garden and the walk into the wood from the garden gate. We will be back in the near future
I would consider this in the top two cottages we've ever stayed in. Fabulous location, no bother at all from the owners and chocolate box cottage. Friendly locals and good pubs, deer in the garden and top class fly fishing twenty minutes away.
Always a pleasure to come back here year after year. Lovely peaceful setting with a beautiful garden and direct access to the forest. We always take plenty of bird food and are well rewarded for it. Excellent village shop and some good local pubs. Hopefully back again next year.
THis was our 2nd visit to brook cottage and am sure it won't be our last. We love it there. Such a delightful cottage in an idyllic setting. This time what made it extra special was that my parents stayed in brookside cottage, which was better suited for my 90 year old dad. Brook cottage is everything you would expect a cottage to be.......quaint with such character . If you love peace and quiet with just birdsong to interrupt you then brook cottage will be for you. A very big thank you to the owner of both cottages for letting us rent their delightful cottages.
This was our eighth year staying at Brook Cottage & will hopefully be back again next year.
This little cottage is lovely however it isn't for everyone, so I thought I'd start there. There is no getting around the 50 meter walk from car to cottage on an uneven paved path and wouldn't work for someone unsteady on their feet. We did it in the dark and a thunder storm when unloading the car however saying that I like not looking at the car! If you are 6 foot or over beware! This cottage probably won't suit as the doorways are lower and although the lounge and dining area would take up to another 6 inches, a stoop is required to pass through them to the bedrooms. Although the main bedroom is on the same level as the downstairs it does require negotiating a small, narrow doorway and a couple of steep stairs up and then down again. If you have little children that requires lifting at night this really won't work as getting up the little slanting spiral staircase is hard enough on your own but not with a child in arms. Saying that it is fun for older kids and the upstairs room is huge in comparison to the rest of the cottage. The bathroom is basic but clean and yes large enough to have a shower or just a hook for the shower hose and a curtain however it is nice to have a separate toilet. This really is a tiny cottage and far smaller than the photos implied but it is very lovely, peaceful and in the most wonderful setting. It is also warm, extremely clean and well furnished. The kitchen has all you'd need and there are lovely, large, white, soft, fluffy towels for the bathroom and very comfy beds - sleeping wasn't a problem at all. The garden is peaceful and huge with the bonus of being able to walk directly into the woods. The path from the garden gate leads up to the village green if you didn't want to use the lane. The roaming cows and ponies use the path to visit the brook (that runs through the garden) for drinking on their way to and from the village green where they can be found grazing - often at the same time as a cricket match is being played. Quite a wonderful site. The pub is 5 mins walk away, as is the village store which is so well stocked and opens 7 days a week, that you wouldn't really need a larger shop at all. I can see why some visitors come over and over again as it would be hard to find another cottage that offers so much in location and setting.
Love this cottage....stayed in the cottage twice before. Beautiful surroundings.
Love this cottage .. stayed in the cottage twice before beautiful surroundings. .
This was our first Holiday in 10 years due to our very special Dog Molly, I have looked many times for a place to take her. so when i came a cross Brook Cottage I booked it for a gift for my partner , we stayed 6th-13th may 2016, we were very worried as this was the first time we have done this but the moment we walked up the path I fell in love with the cottage and so did Molly the garden is to die for and the Brook / woods made this Haven for Molly, The cottage is so quite the only thing you hear is the birds singing, Having the gate to the woods meant Molly never had to be on a lead and we didnt use the car once and we walked about4/5 miles a day and had hours of fun in the garden. It was a perfect break from the busy life we lead at home and I could move here very easy !!!
We spent a lovely (if rainy!) long weekend at Brook Cottage in Jan 2016. GREAT THINGS It was wonderful to be able to use the open fire - it made the cottage really snug in the evenings. Logs and kindling are available from local shops/garages. Really comfy double bed in the main bedroom. Being able to walk out of the garden gate and into the forest. Just in the immediate woods next to the cottage there are many overlapping pathways, allowing you to go for as long or short a walk as you like. Without even getting into your car. While we were there in January, we can imagine that the garden is lovely in the summer. The little stream running through and the wooden bench directly outside the cottage would make for a great summer evening satoutside. The standard 3 night booking meant arriving on Sat and leaving on Mon. We wouldn't have been able to stay the 3rd night (Sunday) as we needed to be back to work on the Monday. The owner kindly allowed us to begin our stay 1 day earlier, meaning that we could still enjoy 3 nights away. Perhaps a benefit of going away at an unpopular time of year as they didn't have a booking immediately before ours. We appreciate their flexibility. The thoughtfully well-equipped kitchen. We ate out at local pubs for our 3 days, but you could easily self cater if you were there for longer. THINGS WE WOULD CHANGE The bathroom was rather tired and a disappointment for us - it felt a bit primitive not having a shower. There is a shower attachment on the taps, but no way to hang it if you wanted to stand (or indeed no shower screen or curtain). We've stayed in some lovely character/quirky properties with modern bathrooms, so it can be done while still keeping the integrity of the property. While it was clean (and the towels provided were new and freshly laundered) it felt as if the bathroom itself could do with an update. The pathway that runs from the car parking area to the cottage was a bit of a quagmire in the wet weather. Wellies/sturdy footwear definitely needed, as it was very muddy/slippery in places.
Loved the cottage and the position of it was amazing , huge wood from your back gate and wild horses and cows roaming freely. Cottage was immuclate and had all you needed for a self catering holiday and in addition a beautiful huge garden well looked after. Would definately go again !
A lovely peaceful & relaxing location. We've been coming to this same cottage for seven years & never tire of it.
The second time we've stayed at Brook Cottage and we loved it as much if not more than last time! It's so peaceful and idyllic, perfect for relaxing.
Chocolate box perfect yet also very well-equipped. The perfect place to come and relax! The gardens are beautiful too, with great access to the forest.
