Nestling deep in the South Hams, Burnt House is really special, a completely refurbished country house set on the side of a peaceful wooded valley on the edge of the village of West Buckland, itself a mile from the superb beach of Bantham, a premier South Devon beach. Ideal for family groups the house has been superbly renovated to a very high standard, now a handsome south facing home on three levels, light and bright with very spacious rooms that include a magnificent kitchen and superb living room that extends out to a patio area for those summer evening barbecues. The five fine bedrooms each have their own top class bathroom or shower room. Here there is surfing, watersports for every enthusiast, a beach lover’s paradise and doorstep walks to the South West coastal path that offer beautiful scenery and panoramic views over Bigbury Bay and the famous Burgh Island. This great house is perfect for a very memorable holiday.
Steps up to paved patio area and open porch with benches on either side. First floor front door to hallway. Utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer, sink and boiler. Cloakroom/shower room with power shower, basin and WC. Inner hall with cloaks cupboard and access to rear of the house. Very spacious double aspect kitchen with farmhouse table to seat 10, a fine range of fitted units with Neff appliances, ceramic hob, eye level double ovens, integral microwave, dishwasher, central island with two bar stools and American style fridge freezer with ice maker. The living room is large and extends across the width of the house with 2 sets of folding glazed doors that open to a paved patio with attractive valley views. Three large sofas surround a wood burner, 42” TV with DVD, iPod dock and a further generous corner sofa faces the patio doors. This is a lovely spacious room.Top floor: There are four bedrooms, three of which have fitted cupboards and smart contemporary bathrooms with showers over the baths, basins and WCs. Bedroom 1. Very spacious with 5ft king size bed and en-suite bathroom. Bedroom 2. Another spacious room with 5ft bed and en-suite bathroom. Bedroom 3. Roomy twin bedded room with 3ft beds and en-suite bathroom. Bedroom 4. Twin bedroom with 3ft beds, fitted cupboards and en-suite shower room with double shower head, hand shower, basin and WC. Ground floor: The original front door is on this level with access to the garden. Cloakroom with basin and WC. Bedroom 5. A large double room with 5ft bed and en-suite shower room with shower, basin and WC.
Landscaped driveway leads up to a large parking area for up to five cars with steps up to a paved patio area in front of the porch. The house is surrounded by extensive sloping lawns, with a lawn and walled garden at the front and steps down to the lane below. The west facing patio off the sitting room has a high quality table and chairs for outside dining and steps from here lead down to the lower terrace.

We would certainly rebook for the same week in 2018 and would like first refusal on any other weeks which might become available in August .

The semi-permeable fabric table covering on the main dining table was difficult to keep clean. It tended to absorb stains, making them almost impossible to wipe off and its rough surface tended to hold crumbs! The slipped slate on the north-east corner, which we mentioned last year, does not seem to have been restored to its correct position. Other than those items, we once again really enjoyed the house and its facilities. On a wider perspective, I am already looking at possibilities for 2018 but am finding the new Toad Hall web site awful to use.
We all loved Burnt House so much ( a mix of adults and three teenagers). Really lovely bedrooms and we all had our own bathrooms so no queuing after a visit to the beach. Great social living spaces for a big family. The surrounding grounds and gardens set in the quiet valley were idyllic. The gorgeous Bantham beach just a 10-15 minute walk away...what more could you want.
Simply one of the best holiday properties we have ever had the pleasure of staying at. To find a property with 5 such spacious bedrooms , all with excellent en-suite facilities is almost unbelievable. We very much look forward to going again next year

We had a perfect week at Burnt House. The owners had thought of everything and we all loved the sunny aspect of the house. We were two families with 5 children between us aged 10-14 and we enjoyed the nearby beaches, and the lovely garden. We hope to return soon.
