Description

Coth Bean has been a much-loved family home for over twenty years. Derived from the Cornish language, the name Coth Bean means 'old and little'. Built in the 18th Century, the cottage is certainly old but not small as a sympathetic extension has added extra space. From the quite beautiful thatched roof down to the intricately carved brass dinner bell, you'll find the cottage bursting with traditional charm and personality. Inside and out, you'll experience an atmosphere of warmth and tranquillity, from the beamed siting room with fireplace, a farmhouse kitchen with Aga, separate dining room and four comfortable bedrooms. Outside there’s a delightful large cottage garden with pond, sunny patio and BBQ which overlooks the soft surrounding Cornish coutryside.

Mawnan Smith takes its name from the smithy that was situated in the centre of the village where two old trackways met. One led to the ferry at Helford Passage, and the other wove its way up to the St Maunanus church, on the cliff overlooking the Helford River. The village itself is set between Falmouth Bay and the Helford Estuary and the village has a Spar shop, post office and Mediterranean themed restaurant.  Visit the sub-tropical gardens of Trebah or Glendurgan , have a wander down to Durgan Beach. Or hop onto the Blue Pointer and take to the river for a fishing trip. Helford Passage is five minutes away, where you can sample locally caught seafood dishes in the Ferry Boat Inn. Spend the day on the beach here, or catch the foot ferry across to Helford Village, where you can wander along the coastline to Daphne Du Maurier’s atmospheric Frenchman’s Creek. The Helford River itself has often been described as the jewel in Cornwall’s crown. Much of the surrounding region – lush valleys, sub-tropical gardens and sandy coves – is a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s a place of unspoilt, natural tranquillity.

Yes we really enjoyed stay- More comfortable/used to using glassware pottery when baking. Really good location re walks and visiting nearby places. Lovely home from home

So pleased you enjoy your holiday with us at Coth Bean - isn't she a beauty! Mawnan Smith is also a great base to explore this part of the world. I will pass your comments on to the owner regarding the oven tins. I must admit, I use glass as well - much easier to clean!

8th September 2018- Mitchells et al., Carolina & Virginia, USA. ‘We had a wonderful time! What a joy to stay here in this delightful place! We found the thatched roof to take us back to another time.’

As the property manager I'm delighted to introduce Coth Bean. Coth Bean is a delightful thatched cottage, dating back to the 17th century in parts, and lovingly cared for by the owners. Whilst retaining all the character you'd expect, it has good sized rooms and none of the low ceilings that put some people off period cottages. The kitchen is a delight, with a large Aga and plenty of space to eat. With the benefit of a large, private garden with stunning views over the countryside, and accepting one small dog, Coth Bean is a perfect base for exploring the area. It's also only a 15-minute walk to the beach if you want to leave the car behind. Coth Bean is sure to become one of our more popular properties, so please take a moment to browse the photographs.
