Another relaxing stay at this excellent cottage. Everything you could wish for in terms of specification, location and hosts.
John and Kathleen, the owners are charming and always willing to help if you need them. They made us most welcome (they live in the magnificent house right next door and allow you to use their extensive gardens). This cottage is ideal for a family with a dog and has a gate directly onto the New Forest with no roads to cross. We enjoyed it very much.
Yes, most enjoyable. Could not have wished for a better cottage or hosts.
Beautiful garden & excellent hosts.
The owners of the house were really nice and friendly. The cottage was spotless and in a very peaceful location, but not too far from places to visit.
All 4 were excellent and we did enjoy it there very much. However there were three things that spoilt it. There was no wi fi available despite it being stated that there was. Also the access road was just a gravelled drive with terrible pot holes all the way and I was surprised my poor old car survived the ordeal but it did and lastly it rained every day bar one which was a shame but cannot be helped.
The owners John and Kathleen Lyon were very charming and their hospitality was excellent. We would certainly love to return if possible.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gorley Firs. The cottage is clean, well-equipped and warm, and the owners, John and Kathleen, were helpful and friendly. The beds are comfortable, and there is loads of hot water. There are plenty of things to do in the area, including the New Forest Water Park on the doorstep. Salisbury is only a 15 minute drive away, with a very convenient Park and Ride system on the same road. Spring is a lovely time of year to visit the New Forest - we saw foals, baby deer, calves and donkeys. The walk direct from the cottage over the hill to the tea rooms at Hyde is very pleasant. Our only (minor) problem was the rather difficult approach over the longish pot-holed gravel drive up to the cottage - small cars like ours might well complain! However, it's easier to approach the cottage from the Mockbeggar road to the south and crossing the ford, and it might be helpful to add this in the instructions in future. In all, warmly recommended!
Beautifully located in the middle of nature, an ideal starting point for walks in the New Forest, and with a beautiful large garden which guests are free to use (large enough for some serious hide and seek). The charming owners, John and Kathleen, were a real joy to meet, they really go out of their way to get you everything you need, even offering to wash clothes for you. They respect your privacy but otherwise feel like family, just a ring at the doorbell away. The only minor negatives were the lack of a dishwasher and the spotty WiFi (some days no reception at all, but this would reportedly improve next spring with a new communications mast). But when the WiFi didn't work and we needed to book tickets via the internet, John immediately offered to let me use his computer inside their home (which has a broadband connection). Beds are normal size for UK standards, but maybe a little small if you're tall like me.
Just wanted to say thank you for sorting our stay at this wonderful cottage! We had such a lovely week. The cottage is beautiful, it has so much character and charm, meticulously maintained and in such a fabulous location. Dog walks direct onto the Forest were just awesome. The owners were very helpful and ensured we had everything we needed. Thank you.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is incredibly cosy and comfortable. Looking forward to a return visit!
A super cottage and holiday - very cosy, well equipped in an idyllic location.
