Description

Horizons, a south facing detached bungalow is perched on the cliffs that surround Start Point and has the most spectacular panoramic sea views from most rooms. Completely refurbished and extended it now offers superior accommodation in a wonderful scenic setting. Situated a short way down a quiet country lane that leads to the coast it’s not far from the centre of the village of East Prawle with its lively Pigs Nose pub, cafe and village shop. This is a wonderful area for those who enjoy peace and tranquillity, bracing walks, appreciating local birdlife and love the sea and the coastline. The Salcombe estuary, with its golden sandy beaches is just a short drive away and from here you can catch the passenger ferry across to Salcombe. This lively town has plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops and you can also hire boats or participate in the many water sports that are on offer. Horizons has a large lawned garden planted with shrubs and a wooden sun terrace with glass balustrade where you can relax as you soak up the sun, enjoy the sights and sounds of the sea or watch the sun set whilst enjoying an al fresco evening meal.

Front door to lobbywith under-floor heating, ideal to dry off wet coats and boots after a bracing coastal walk.  Utility room with washer/dryer and a Belfast sink. Open plan living room with fabulous sea views to Start Point.  Carpeted evening seating area with comfortable seating for eight, flat screen Freeview-Satellite TV, a Blu-Ray player with soundbar/music player and for those cool autumn and spring days there is a contemporary wood burning stove. The room extends into a stunning south-facing sun room with full height glass patio doors  that open onto the wooden decking.  The floor is travertine tiled with under-floor heating. You can relax in the east end enjoying views out to Start Point while the west end houses a brand new granite-topped walnut kitchen where you can soak up the sea view whilst you cook. Very well equipped with ample storage and utensils it has an island unit housing a gas hob, a large single oven and microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The adjacent dining table seats eight comfortably. All the bedrooms have been remodelled and are heated with hot-water skirting boards. Bedroom 1 and 4: Superking size bed that can be separated into two singles. Bedrooms 2 and 3: two 3ft singles beds which can be linked to form a super king. Family bathroom with a bath with shower over, hand basin and WC. Shower room (conveniently located between beds 3 and 4) includes a shower, hand basin and WC, again tiled with under-floor heating.

Wooden deck with glass balustrade to the south and east, with breath-taking panoramic views. Large, gently sloping garden, mainly lawn. Rinsing tap and Barbecue.

Stay was great, very relaxing and super bungalow with stunning sunrises and breathtaking southern outlook. Great location for walkers. Roads in the area are typical narrow Devon lanes and can be a stress for the nervous driver. That said will definately be back !!!!

The only reason I put a low score for location was due to the impossible bridleway to the beach below which I understand is not the owners responsibility but I do feel it was slightly misleading. You do need to drive to the closed beach. All in all a fantastic family holiday which I may add included 2 disables adults.

Really enjoyed the property. I would suggest only using the local store for absolute essentials as quite expensive. Piglet Café food is excellent although again, quite expensive. I would recommend the butchers at Springfield farm shop - the meat is excellent and value for money.

Yes, we did indeed enjoy our stay. Local Piglet stores very helpful and will get ordered papers. Ashby's garage shop, near Frogmore, has nearly everything you could ever need, and the Farm Shop on the road to Torcross is very good too. Fresh fish from the Britannia at Beesands was the best ever - we bought there on two occasions, and when we return, we'll go more often.

We all had a really great holiday. Location was great, lots of walks. It was my first time away in a dog friendly venue and I was worried that their might be a doggy smell/hair everywhere but my worries were completely unfounded. Thanks to all concerned.

Everything was perfect! My mum couldn’t reach the top shelves in the kitchen cupboards but she is quite diddy! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, we would love to book again for Easter 2020 when it gets nearer the time! Thank you, a great company to deal with.

Our third visit to this property this year, we booked all three weeks together, had we known it was so remote we probably would have only visited the once, however once there the view is stunning, property very comfortable. Still cant get used to the Devon Lanes!!!. Have booked another property for later in the year.

Yes we enjoyed our stay Horizons is lovely once you get there but getting there after you have turned off the main road is a complete nightmare especially when you have a large and very expensive car. Forever reversing for tractors trucks delivery lorries, we are back in September sadly for the last time, thank god there is a shop where we can get our papers and milk etc. Next time we will choose a less remote place. Also the lack of mobile signal is a complete pain. Sorry for being negative.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Horizons, but we are sorry you struggled in navigating our famous Devon lanes!

We had a lot of trouble working out how to use the cooker and how to keep it from turning itself off. Simple instructions may be the answer here? We had the same trouble last year, is it just us?

A lovely lovely cottage with the most amazing views!! We were so lucky with the weather too. We would love to return although as the family grow I'm not sure if it will be big enough!!

Nice touch with the "doggy" welcome pack, our two young granddaughters did wonder where theirs were though !!! Melanie Sharwood (the caretaker) was particularly helpful and our thanks go to her. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and have become VERY particular about our expectations. Horizons is now very near the top of the list for "we will go back ", in fact we have already booked for the same week next year!

I have booked many holidays at horizons and at other cottages in east Prawle. Booking in either my name or with my dear friend Hannah Downes. Spending nearly 30 years visiting this area. The welcome cake was my first and FABULOUS. The standard of service improves year on year. Though we understand fully that internet connection is intermittent Sadly we were all very frustrated as the server could not connect to the internet throughout our stay, the owner and caretaker tried their hardest to help and many conversations with various BT operatives. However this didn't spoil our holiday. Looking forward to returning again. 🤗

Bloomin' marvellous - what a superb property. The view is fan-bloody-tastic. Passed every kitchen test with flying colours. Not only was there garlic crusher - there was the best ever garlic crusher! (so we had two - because I'd brought my identical one from home, having never previously visited a cottage with a decent one...). Was slightly scared of marking the dining table (with young kids) and it took a while to locate the glass recycling out of the village, but these are such minor points. Wonderful pub, brilliant coast, loved seeing Cirl Buntings everywhere (even in the garden!) and the walk to the beach kept us fit!

Absolutley fantastic property in great location. Everything we needed was included and the caretaker was very helpful, coming out to provide us with window locks as our 3 year old grandson found he could open the bedroom window! Beautifully clean and well presented - it was a real joy. Gin and tonic on the deck looking out to see - could anything be better?

Best property we have ever stayed in! The view is incredible and Sarah, the housekeeper stands out above the rest. Horizons is so comfortable and we appreciated the large fridge and it was a pleasure to cook in that kitchen! We felt very much at home and did not want to leave. Our dog loved the big garden. We intend to return. It is well worth the drive through the narrow lanes and you do get used to it.

When we chose this property we thought the photographs online were fabulous but when we arrived we were even more impressed. The property was spotlessly clean, very comfortable in every way and well layed out. Good quality furnishings and equipment enhanced our stay even further. Ted, our small terrier, was a bit distracted by all the passing pigeons and seabirds. He loved watching the world outside through the wall of glass but was a bit bemused by having to stretch his legs in the garden on a lead all of the time. The weather wasn't very good for much of the week. We had many showers and very high winds, so couldn't walk the coastal path as much as we would have liked. We highly recommend the following: The Pigs Nose, East Prawle - a quirky, very dog friendly inn, serving good quality meals, albeit a limited menu. The Crabshell Inn, Kingsbridge - good quality food and dog friendly on the ground floor. The Cricket Inn, Beesands - dog friendly and on the beach. Best beach - South Milton. Lovely view from - Start Point lighthouse. Disappointing in every way - Lannacombe Beach. It was covered in fly-infested seaweed. Most unpleasant. We have visited this area of South Devon many times and we wouldn't hesitate to stay at Horizons again.

Lovely property in a fabulous location. We felt instantly relaxed and after a week of long walks, beaches and fish suppers, left (sadly) but refreshed and revived.

Wow wow wow! What an amazing holiday cottage!. We were the 1st guests into the cottage in August after the renovations completed...glad we had the nerve to hold out until it was ready! we are so very glad we did. Lovely goodies on arrival too, especially the cold wine in the fridge on a hot summers evening. Fabulous modern, comfortable cottage, clean and new- everything was just perfect, and the kitchen is fantastic - everything a Chef on her holiday needs and more! Very well kitted out kitchen, a dream to cook in with those views across the blue horizon. Views were jaw-dropping amazing from everywhere in the house. I won't bore you with every meal we had but the Lobster Risotto and champagne with loads of fresh samphire was the perfect meal with a view for our 5th wedding anniversary. Catch-of-the-Day fishmongers in Kingsbridge sell all the fresh fish and seafood you could ever need. Our 2nd favourite was the fresh crab linguine with chilli and samphire. Local beaches are amazing - Mill Bay, Sunny Cove, Lannacombe Beach, shallow crystal clear water and fine sand beaches all of them, plus Dog Friendly all year around! Pigs Nose Inn 300yrds away is a fab local pub to relax and enjoy a chat. To sum up the cottage is amazing - We want to go back to this property every anniversary :)

Horizons exceeded our expectations. I knew it was a new alteration and that it was based on a small bungalow but it was much larger than expected. (I thought your website photos exaggerated the size, but they didn't at all). The owners have clearly gone to a lot of expense to achieve this and nothing was skimped (good quality, tasteful decor, crockery, glasses, kitchen facilities....). Heating needed a little tweaking and you arranged for the owner to call us to explain, which he did. Maybe when they try the place for themselves in the winter months, they'll realise the need for more "local" heat (eg the wood stove, which by the way only provided wood for one fire - this could have been more generous). Heated towel rails would also have been nice to avoid damp cold towels. A curtain on the window near the TV would have given a bit more privacy (not that anyone could see in!). We ideally wanted an enclosed garden (and so did another party according to the visitors book) but it was so quiet it wasn't a problem. A new gate across the entrance would suffice. In summary, an excellent property - the best we've rented in terms of quality of decor and facilities. Very clean and of course, with those spectacular views. I only wish the roads were a bit wider!
