Open plan living space with floor to ceiling glazed folding doors flooding the room with light and giving views over the garden and fields beyond. Lounge area with sofa and smart TV with accounts for Sky, Prime, Netflix and BT Sport. Kitchen area with breakfast bar to seat two, ceramic hob, eye-level electric fan oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and microwave. Shower room with walk-in shower, basin, WC and heated towel rail. Bedroom with 5ft king-size bed and floor to ceiling doors enjoying views of the garden and fields beyond.

A large decked terrace seamlessly adjoins the accommodation and is furnished with garden table and chairs with access to garden.

Exeter is a vibrant, cultural and historic city, where old and new sit comfortably side by side. The imposing gothic cathedral and green is just a short stroll from the modern shopping centre, both of which provide plenty of choice for eating, drinking and a spot of retail therapy. You will also notice sections of the ancient city walls as you wander round, and if you fancy delving deep into the city’s past you can take a tour down the medieval underground passageways.

The historic quay which dates back to Roman times is just a walk or short bus ride from the city centre. With its later addition of a canal system it now provides a wonderful waterside area with shops and cafes, from which you can hire kayaks and canoes, or take a bike ride beside the estuary along the Exe Cycle Trail.

For wildlife enthusiasts, the nearby Exe estuary is a must-see. It is an internationally important site for winter migrant birds, making this area particularly special if you’re planning to take your Devon during the winter and spring. There are nature reserves close to Exeter on either side of the estuary, at Exminster marshes on one side and Bowling Green Marsh in Topsham on the other.  With over 200 different species recorded here, in mid-winter it’s possible to see over 20,000 wading birds, ducks, geese and swans.

For keen walkers, and those holidaying with their four-legged friends, the South West Coast Path provides a plethora of places to visit within easy reach of Exeter, including the stunning red cliffs at Dawlish and the large pebble beach at Budleigh Salterton, which forms part of the protected Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

On the outskirts of the city you’ll find the picturesque waterside town of Topsham, whose history lies in fishing, trading and ship building. Relics of the wool and cotton trades are evident as you wander past the rows of Dutch style houses, inspired by the visits across the channel.

Lying on the banks of the Exe estuary, you can wander along Topsham’s “goat walk” to the Bowling Green Marsh nature reserve, or take a ferry ride across to The Turf, one of the few pubs in the country which cannot be accessed by road. From here, take a walk or cycle along the Exe Estuary Trail or simply enjoy the view with a pint and some pub grub. Topsham has plenty of places to eat and drink plus a variety of independent shops, providing both the bustle of a small town and the tranquillity of the estuary within just a few paces of each another.

From the area surrounding Exeter you can also easily reach beautiful, rugged Dartmoor or the stunning South Devon coast with its abundance of golden sandy, family-friendly beaches.

A holiday cottage near Exeter is perfectly positioned for exploring this diverse and beautiful corner of the South West of England.

We had an excellent family lunch here on the Sunday of our week away. Great menu choice, including gluten free for one member of our party plus a good kids menu. Service was good, didn’t take too long & the staff were courteous & smiling. Lovely good all round & clean plates! Would definitely recommend!

Powderham Castle
Powderham Castle
(4 miles)

(1)

A magical family home in the heart of Devon, Powderham Castle is brimming with history to tell and things to do. It has a mention in the Domesday Book, came into the de Courtenay family in the dowry of Margaret de Bohun in 1325, and has subsequently fallen into the hands of all the Courtenay Earls of Devon. The Medieval building has changed a little over the years between the family feuds and general wear and tear of time, but through battles, wars, beheadings and politics, the property has remained, and these days it makes for a beautiful Devonshire day out. Wander around the gardens, have tea, cake and lunch, and let little ones join in fun and games around the grounds with a kids play area and pets corner to visit. Guided tours are available, tickets start at £8.50 for adults and £6.50 for children, and the estate is open for visitors from March until October, although dates vary from one year to the next, so do keep an eye on the website!

Visited on a hot and sunny day and the coolness of the interior was most welcome. The young guide was very good! She obviously loved the place. Picnicked in the grounds next to the lake but could not see water as waterside plants too high. Shame. Well kept place.

A great place to visit and walk to the top of the falls. Well worth the climb. It was very wet for our visit so must be wearing suitable shoes.

Budleigh Salterton Beach
(10 miles)

(1)

A picturesque two mile pebble beach backed partly with cliffs, with plenty of space and lovely clean clear water.  Along the esplanade there are beach cafes and a car park and it is only a short wander into the village for toilets, shops and pubs.  Care should be taken swimming towards the eastern end of the beach where there can be strong currents due to the River Otter, and there are no lifeguard facilities.

Step back in time to a gentler age here - lovely beach, quaint little town, reminded us of Southward in Suffolk on a smaller scale - we loved it!

Sidmouth Beach
(14 miles)

(3)

By the seaside town of the same name, Sidmouth Beach is a long stretch of pebbles that stretches from the River Sid at the east of the town, West to Chit Rocks and Jacobs Ladder Beach and beyond.  From the town you go over a footbridge and a number of steps down to the beach, however there are also access points along the sea front esplanade.  There are a number of car parks close by, most of which are a few minutes’ walk from the beach itself, and it benefits from nearby facilities, cafes, restaurants and shops.  Dogs are not allowed on the beach from 1st May to the 30th September, however there is a small area at the East end of the beach where dogs are allowed all year round.  It’s a delightful spot for swimming sailing and surfing if the weather permits it, but you do have to take your own equipment.

June 2022

We loved our holiday but felt a few little tweaks could have made it better. Hopefully constructive input. Container for toothbrushes and toothpaste. Welcome pack with local Devon produce and essentials, especially as there's nowhere to walk for milk, bread, eggs, etc. Hooks and shelves (lots of them) for keys, jackets, coats, jewellery, phones, books, etc. Curtains or blinds (colour and pattern) in the living area; for privacy and when the sun is too bright to read, watch TV, etc. Shrubs pruning on the other side of the glass so the view can be seen. Large corner sofa, so you can choose where to sit depending on whether looking outside at the view or looking at the TV. Larger TV and lower on the wall. Fuller pillows on the bed - flatter ones were very flat. Access to Laundry Cottage Lodge on the other side, so not disturbing the owners and allowing privacy. Thank you.

June 2022

We have enjoyed our week staying in this very comfortable accommodation, in a great location for exploring this part of Devon. Thank you, also for the nice bottle of prosecco.

Loved the cafe (on the green) in Widecombe and the steak night at The Ley Arms. We spent our last day in Teignmouth and had a brilliant day helped by the sunshine. The car museum at Mortonhampstead is worth a visit. Thank you Karen & Alan for making us so welcome. Warm wishes.

April 2021

Staying at the lodge has been a lovely experience with everything supplied for a relaxed holiday. Laundry Cottage is the very best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in, all in perfect surroundings. We travelled extensively during our stay exploring Cornwall sights (Padstow, Port Isaac) and of course Devon in many places - too many to mention and always enjoyed returning to the lodge at the end of the day for a relaxed evening. The Ley Arms in the village was excellent for a meal - steak was excellent! We should note the the nearby building work we were warned about taking place during part of our stay did not disturb us in the very slightest. We have no hesitation in recommending Laundry Cottage to friends and family and look forward to returning again in the very near future. Many thanks!

April 2021

Stayed in September 2020 - Fabulous lodge in a beautiful tranquil setting. We couldn't have chosen a better place for a relaxing break. Will not hesitate to recommend to family and friends. The cricket at the weekend was a bonus and so was the weather, warm and sunny every day for 6 days.

October 2020

Stayed in September 2020 - A wonderful lodge; beautiful, immaculate, and so homely, with absolutely everything thoughtfully provided by lovely hosts Karen and Alan, to ensure a fantastic break! Excellent location for access to so many places; we visited the amazing Canonteign Falls (quite a trek, but well worth it!) then visited nearby Cridford Inn for lunch (highly recommended and well worth the drive through the winding Devon lanes!). We also visited Teignmouth and Shaldon, (Ness House overlooking the sea also recommended for a lovely lunch). We also enjoyed the leisurely walk from here to The Ley Arms on Friday, for a steak night (excellent!). We loved the peaceful cottage garden, and sitting on the sunbeds in the afternoon sun. We've had a totally relaxed weekend and would not hesitate to recommend Laundry Cottage to anyone; and we will definitely return - for longer next time!

September 2020

we had a fantastic time at Laundry cottage. Our only hiccup was the oven, when we used it the fire alarm kept going off every time we opened up the door. Luckily we eat out for the rest of the week and only had supper/nibbles in the eve when we got back.

Wonderful. Excellently furnished lodge in a beautiful setting, everything we needed was provided. Sitting on the sunny, comfortably furnished deck with cricket being played below in the valley was a treat. Lovely walk to eat well in the picturesque village pub. Easy drives to visit south Devon’s lovely coast and countryside. A fabulous week.

What a wonderful place to stay, both the lodge and the situation. A lovely outlook over the local cricket pitch. Everything had been thought of to make the stay a comfortable one, including hairdryer, torches and USB charging points on both sides of the bed. Ideal location for exploring the area, with major road links within a few miles. We would thoroughly recommend staying here and plan to return.

August 2020

We'd highly recommend Laundry Cottage: friendly welcome, very well equipped (inc. fast WiFi, TV etc.) and peaceful surroundings. It has easy access to good roads and local holiday attractions.

July 2020

Excellent accommodation, modern yet still really cosy. The balcony, views and peaceful surroundings were fabulous. It's setting/ luxury was perfect and enabled us to switch off and relax after a hectic/ sad couple of months. I sent a video to one of my friends and received the response - "I know you have stayed at some stunning places but that is out of this world and a little gem". Perfect location, not far from many of the stunning places Devon has to offer. The local pub is good for drinks and food. Alan and Karen left us a bottle of fizz chilling on arrival which was a lovely thought, nice welcoming hosts. If we can find a gap in the booking schedule we will be back and will be on my recommendation list for family and friends!

July 2020

A lovely, peaceful setting in which to relax. The lodge is beautifully decorated and we lacked for nothing. A great base to explore the surrounding area. Next time we come we hope there will be more attractions open to explore although I did manage to see the Dartmoor ponies! Thank you for a welcome holiday.

February 2020

Laundry Cottage is a beautiful and relaxing lodge, perfect for our Valentines weekend away. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you to Alan and Karen for being so welcoming and generous for providing everything we needed. We will most definitely be visiting again in the future :-)

Stayed in January 2020 - Fantastic location for a post-Christmas relaxing break after hosting the family over Christmas. Weather was very obliging, lovely walks around the coast and estuaries. Lots still to do and we would love to return in the cricket season. Many thanks!

November 2019

We have loved stopping in the Lodge for the week, relaxing and enjoying the beautiful view. Luckily the weather has been very kind to us and we have managed to visit the coast and Dartmoor. The National Trust properties have also been fabulous. Thank you to Karen and Alan who have made us feel very welcome. We look forward to visiting and staying in your wonderful property.

Laundry Cottage has everything in it you could possibly wish for and the detail of the decor is beautiful! Karen and Alan are so welcoming and are fantastic hosts! Well worth a visit!

October 2019

We have enjoyed our stay in this lovely lodge with its pretty outlook, so relaxing, even in the rain! We hope to return again in the future when the sun shines more. Thank you Alan and Karen for making the lodge so comfortable.

September 2019

Ideal location: within close range of Exeter, the coast and the moor. Compact and comfortable place to return to each afternoon. Everything almost new. Well equipped. Sense of space, opening out onto a broad terrace. Idyllically peaceful. Welcoming and perfect hosts. All in all, a wonderful break.

September 2019

Excellent accommodation, beautiful outlook, all in all a fantastic holiday. Many thanks to Alan and Karen!

September 2019

Quite outstanding in every way. Owners could not have been more agreeable or helpful

August 2019

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Laundry Cottage. The accommodation was immaculate and the setting is just so peaceful. Alan and Karen have ensured that the lodge is equipped with literally everything you could need for a luxury stay. They have also taken the time to compile a comprehensive folder of pretty much everything to see and do in the surrounding area. We were lucky to have a full week of glorious sunshine which meant we were able to enjoy relaxing mornings and evenings looking over the cricket pitch and adjacent meadow whilst watching and listening to the abundance of bird life. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Laundry Cottage to anyone looking for a luxury accommodation in the tranquil setting of north Devon. We will definitely look to return very soon.

August 2019

Lovely place to get aware from it all, peaceful well appointed property like a home from home. Whilst situated in the owners garden the lodge has a nice and private outlook, everything was fine during our stay .

July 2019

Excellent Holiday! Peaceful and welcoming. Lovely setting and surrounded by wonderful country views. The lodge is really comfortable with everything from outside sitting area (cricket matches provide great entertainment!) to inside luxury. Thank you Karen and Alan for a memorable week!

July 2019

A beautiful relaxing retreat. Alan and Karen have ensured that this beautiful lodge has absolutely everything you could need to relax in the quiet calm settings of the lodge and surroundings. Throughout our stay there has been an abundance of birds singing away, lots of wildlife, even a lovely black cat came to say "hi!. We had a couple of solid days relaxing in the lodge, but the village is perfectly located for easy access to all main routes to get you to all the beautiful locations in the area. Would recommend a trip to Berry Head where we saw the resident pod of dolphins! We will be back in the near future, thank you!

July 2019

Peaceful and relaxing. A fantastic spot in a lodge that gives you everything you would need. Alan and Karen have thought of everything. We have thoroughly enjoyed our week here, helped by the wonderful weather. This is an idea base for coast, moors and estuaries, with a lovely village pub 10 mins walk down through the pretty village. If you enjoy wildlife, look out for the tree creepers, woodpeckers, rabbits and pheasants which frequent the garden and surrounding woods. A 'must come back to' place and we will be back I'm sure!

June 2019

What a gem of a place! Karen and Alan are excellent and friendly hosts and the welcome pack left for us was a perfect touch. The lodge is so beautifully done accommodating all of your needs and so, so peaceful, relaxing and private. The village is quiet and lovely and the Ley Inn is a 10 minute walk if you want to tear yourself away from sitting out on the decked area. We found it ideal spot to get to everywhere, whether that be the South Hams, Dartmoor or further afield into South Somerset and Dorset. We can heartily recommend a visit to quirky and bohemian Totnes, for quintessential South Devon, Dartmouth and Dittisham are a must. Blackpool Sands on the coast road is beautiful and Dartmoor is wild and stunning. Exeter is worth a visit especially the quay. If you fancy going a little further Lyme Regis and Sherbourne are also highly recommended. All your needs (food and fuel) can be found by taking the short 10 minute trip into Exeter. We had a great time exploring, there’s so much to see and do. Many thanks for a unforgettable stay. We will be back soon!

June 2019

Lovely and tranquil with views over the peaceful countryside. The lodge is very spacious with a comfortable bed and everything I needed including Sky TV. Will definitely come again.

June 2019

Just wanted to say thank for a really lovely time in your beautiful lodge. We were not sure what to expect as we have not travelled to Devon on many occasions. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the location and quality of the accommodation. The lodge is well designed and in a tranquil setting, also very close to places of interest and a walkable local pub serving excellent food. We were made very welcome and can’t wait to return, thanks again!

June 2019

What a great place! So, peaceful and relaxing. The village is very quaint with a lovely old church and great pub and although you are in the heart of the countryside, it is so close to everywhere. Easy access to the beach, the moors or to the city of Exeter. We had a great time exploring, there’s so much to see and do. Our hosts Karen and Alan were very welcoming and friendly and whilst the lodge is situated in the grounds of their house, we had total privacy. Thanks for a fabulous stay. We will be back soon!
