Coleridge House, an elegant property that sits within its own 5 acre grounds and yet is less than a mile from the pleasant South Devon village of Stokenham. Originally a country retreat this has now been converted into several apartments, cottages and houses. The setting is magnificent with managed communal gardens including expansive areas of lawn, fine mature trees, numerous flowering shrubs, woodland walks, wonderful sweeping pastoral views to the south and access to a footpath that links to Slapton Sands. Mariners is tucked in a quiet corner attached to the house, is very private, all on one level, recently fitted and equipped to the highest level of quality and comfort. It has its own private courtyard area. This is a really superb property from which to enjoy the coastline and beaches of the South Hams, the Coastal path, Slapton Ley nature reserve, with excellent bird watching opportunities and the remarkable Salcombe estuary.
From a shared hallway, front door leads into a most attractive, light and bright living room with superb lighting, polished oak floor and divides into a lounge, dining and kitchen area. In the sitting area are two large sofas, wide screen TV with video/DVD/CD player and French window to the patio. The dining area has a handsome oak dining table and the superb kitchen area is beautifully fitted with very high quality equipment including a Rangemaster 5 ring ceramic hob, double oven and grill, integral washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave and French window to the patio. Inner hall with hooks for coats and storage cupboards. Double bedroom with 5ft bed and en-suite shower room with corner shower, basin and WC. Twin bedroom with 3ft beds. Family bathroom with bath with centred taps, thermo shower over, basin and WC.
5 or 6 railed steps lead down to the private gravelled and decked patio area with hardwood garden table, chairs with cushions and parasol. Kettle barbecue. Five acres of communal grounds with woodland walks and pretty summer house.
Two designated places and visitor parking.

Sadly, I forgot to write in the Visitors Book. I would have written that we liked it so much that we booked for 3 weeks this year. Additionally, we have become very friendly friendly with the Residents of No. 4 over the past three years. The area is lovely but sadly Torcross Village Stores and Post Office has now closed down.

Probably the best apartment we have stayed in. Immaculately clean and furnished to a very high standard. The cream tea welcome was much appreciated. The gardens are lovely and we enjoyed a few evenings sitting on the bench at the far end of the garden taking in the lovely views. Very highly recommended.
Very much- this was a lovely property in a peaceful setting, yet within easy reach of Kingsbridge and other favourite places. Very well equipped, with good quality appliances and furnishings. Many thanks.
We enjoyed our stay very much. Although generally the surfaces in the property were clean, there were areas such as up the side of the wardrobe in the main room which required cleaning (not easy as this was a narrow gap) and there was dust and cobwebs build up in the radiators. Other than that the house was clean
What a beautiful holiday place to stay, just a few minutes from and A road but deep in countryside, 2 miles from Start Bay Inn fantastic fish and chips probably best ion the country I have had so far, lovely views from very large garden and surrounded by woodlands and walks and sea. we all enjoyed our stay immensely and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
Booking was very straightforward and email confirmation with travel details were good. Key safe details received over phone were satisfactory but for this particular property we got a little confused as to where the key box was - misunderstanding the ( turn 180 degrees) - would suggest you say "look over the wooden gate to your right." Very much appreciated the email containing "what's on" on the local area - nice touch. Providing afternoon tea on arrival was a very welcoming gesture (it was fab) Would thoroughly recommend Toad Hall and the property - looking forward to planning next years visit. Thanks to everyone

Lovely accommodation. Really pleased that we chose it. Exceptionally clean and well equipped. Only downside obviously beyond your control was whoever was staying in Flat 2 had a very yappy dog which appeared to be left on its own sometimes! We are dog owners ourselves and as such we are very aware of the fact that she must not be left on her own in the property. We also realise that a dog will bark to tell an owner someone is around! It's a pity the property is up for sale.
An excellent apartment and a super week's holiday (mind you, excellent weather helped!) Lovely cream tea and flowers on arrival made a terrific welcome. Superbly equipped (though the shower in the en-suite is snug, to say the least!) Just worth noting that the roads in the area are very narrow if you're an unsure driver and the lovely little patio garden isn't fully dog secure. But we really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.
All excellent, we enjoyed the peace and quiet. Good location for coastal walks and visits to Salcombe, Dartmouth and Totnes. The property was immaculate and we really appreciated the delicious cream tea on arrival.
Mariners is in an idyllic rural setting, only 5 mins drive from the sea. It is beautifully furnished and equipped to a high standard in both quantity and quality. It is just as shown on the web site, with the only slight disappointment being the lack of views from inside the property. We have had a wonderfully relaxed holiday and have visited Brixham, Dartmouth, Torcross, Beesands, Kingsbridge, South Milton Sands and Salcombe, each within half an hour by road. The communal grounds at Coleridge House are a delight, especially the woodland walk with the dog! The booking and all arrangements were simple thanks to the staff at Toad Hall Cottages, and the welcome pack of scones, jam, Devon cream and flowers were marvellous as was the cleanliness of the cottage, thanks to Hilary the caretaker! The whole package is designed to provide a relaxing, simple holiday and is 100% successful in doing so!! Mariners at Stokenham was an absolute delight. Beautiful, tranquil countryside but well positioned for Torcross, Slapton and the rest of the South Hams area. We love this part of South Devon and have enjoyed many wonderful family holidays here. I'm sure we will be returning again soon.
