With its spectacular cliff-top views of the Solent, and on a clear day, the Needles and the Isle of Wight, the coastal village of Milford on Sea remains one of Hampshire’s most cherished seaside locations. The pretty high street is open to a number of shops, cafes, restaurants, and pubs, all surrounding the traditional village green. Inland lies the ancient trails of the New Forest, while further east is the village of Keyhaven with its boatyard and nature reserve. Take a cliff-path stroll down to Hurst Spit and on to Hurst Castle (built by Henry VIII), and then stop off for afternoon tea at one of the cosy cafes in neighbouring Barton on Sea. If your walking legs are done for the day, hop on the seasonal ferry that makes regular trips across the marsh. On a starlit night you’ll see the distant westerly glimmer of Poole and Bournemouth.
