Tucked in the midst of West Buckland, a coastal hamlet just under a mile from the golden sandy beaches of Bantham, is Old Farm, a perfect example of beautiful Devon thatch, the essence of charm with centuries of character, high beamed ceilings, low gothic doorways and original features.  All has been sympathetically modernised to offer every home comfort, from Smart television, bespoke locally crafted oak furniture, comfy beds and attractive soft furnishings to ipod connection and wood burner. Next to the cottage is “Tidley Cot” – providing a separate 4thBedroom with kitchenette WC and shower, a super hideaway for teens or couples who relish a retreat just a few feet away from the main house. If you had pictured a quintessential thatched holiday cottage with today’s contemporary comforts and style then this is the one, with separate patio and parking, a super base from which to spend your time in South Devon.

This is a fabulous little cottage in a beautiful part of the world. A really cosy home from home, at any time of the year.

Two steps up to front door, porch.  Ground Floor: Light and airy lounge with squidgy sofas and armchairs, Smart TV with ipod connection and DVD, wireless broadband and log burner, plenty of books, leading to front porch and doorway. Dining room with handsome locally made refectory table in pippy oak, large farmhouse fireplace inset with a log burner,  serving hatch to the kitchen. Step down to the Kitchen; electric cooker with double oven and ceramic hob, larder fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine. Ground floor WC and hand basin. Staircase to First Floor. Bedroom 1 Twin bedroom with single 3ft beds and wardrobe. Bedroom 2 Twin bedroom with single 3ft beds, twin aspect windows, pedestal basin, chest of drawers and hanging hooks. Bedroom 3 Master bedroom with 5ft king size bed, built in wardrobe, chest of drawers and wash hand basin. Family bathroom with bath and electric shower over, basin, WC and heated towel rail. Second staircase leading down to living room.

Adjacent to the main house across driveway is Tidley Cot; flight of steps lead up to First Floor, Bedroom 4: 5ft king size bed, clothes rail and scissor beams with WC adjacent. April 2014

Love this cottage! lots of light communal space on the ground floor and very comfortable light bedrooms. The beds were particularly comfortable (I'm very fussy about beds and they rarely come up to standard in self-catering cottages we've been in). The sun terrace was fantastically warm even in April and full of herbs for cooking - yum yum! It was a beautiful short walk to the beach and a pub on the way. Watch out for the Gastrobus in the beach carpark - utterly yummy food! The beach was busy at Easter but the cottage was wonderfully quiet in it's little village. Nothing like cozying up to a good book by the woodburning stove after a day at the beach. We'll be back again!
