South Pool is certainly one of the most attractive villages in the South Hams, where you can enjoy a delicious pub meal at the well-known Millbrook Inn, walk along the nearby coastal path, launch your boat into the Salcombe estuary from the slipway in the creek and, tides permitting, do your shopping in Salcombe, enjoy a spot of fishing or simply spend the day on one of the many gorgeous beaches on this side of the estuary. Formerly the village school, and around 150 years old, The Old School is a spacious, comfortable, detached family home situated near the thirteenth century church at the top of the village with views across the village and surrounding countryside and is set in an attractive enclosed garden. The house has a lovely sunny aspect with a south facing terrace, is well insulated with full double-glazing, central heating, as well as an open fire, so it is very warm in winter which makes it ideal for both winter breaks and summer sojourns.

Entrance porch with lots of room for coats and boots. Central hallway with downstairs shower room with shower, basin and WC. Spacious attractive sitting room with three large sofas, TV, DVD, video player, radio/CD player and iPod dock. Pretty wooden fire surround with open fire, large windows and French windows to the south facing terrace and archway into study area. The roomy family kitchen/diner has a large pine table to seat up to 8, fitted units and electric cooker with ceramic hob, microwave, larder fridge and dishwasher. Access to rear lobby with large fridge/freezer and door to garden. Door from lobby into conservatory-style utility room with pulley clothes dryer, washing machine and tumble dryer and access to enclosed yard. Carpeted stairs to landing (note: the stairs and landing are open sided with fairly large spaces between rails - toddlers must be supervised). Master bedroom with great village views from the double aspect windows, window seat, fitted cupboards, basin and with 6ft bed set beneath the exposed roof beams. Second double bedroom with 5ft double bed and fitted cupboards.  Large twin bedroom with full size 3ft beds. Bathroom with extra long bath, basin and WC.

The very pretty enclosed garden, which surrounds the house on three sides, is small, private and filled with masses of shrubs with two small areas of lawn and paths that wind around the side of the property. Steps lead down from one side to a gate to the village lane.  There is an attractive terrace with table and chairs off the sitting room. Barbecue.

Bay at the front for 2 cars.

The Old School is a spacious, light, comfortable house with a compact but lovely garden which is fully enclosed so very good if you have a dog. The rooms were all very large so there was plenty of room to spread out. There was plenty of crockery, cutlery, cooking equipment etc. Although you had to drive down one of those narrow, high sided Devon roads to get to it, the location was very good for accessing other areas. Would definitely recommend it.

Old School is a wonderful place to stay in the picturesque village of Southpool. The house is homely and comfortable and really well equiped. Great place to take dogs with a secure garden and a useful utility area for them to dry off in! The upstairs has very comfy beds and lovely views over the roof tops of Southpool and to the other side of the valley. The south facing patio is private, sheltered and sunny. A five minute walk takes you down to the Creek which is a perfect spot to watch the sunset followed by a stroll to the friendly Millbrook Inn...Highly recommended.

This is the second year we have stayed at the school house in Southpool,a very picturesque village. The location is lovely,as is the property. A traditional house with furnishings and decor that are comfortable and family friendly. Lovely garden to sit and have bbq's if the weather is fine. Church next door so handy on Sundays, if you are so inclined, as some of our party were, people very friendly

Old School in Southpool is a very comfortable, homely house with very pretty gardens and views. We very much enjoyed our stay there. It is very well equipped. There are lovely pictures on all the walls of local seascapes and lots of good books and games. The beds are very comfortable with good quality bed linin. We really enjoyed walking down to the estuary every morning walking through the very pretty village. It was the perfect place for myself, my husband, three boys and two dogs to stay. Very useful utility room for dogs and bikes!! Would highly recommend this house. We are already looking forward to returning next year. A real good place to switch off, relax, unwind and spend time together. Many thanks from us all!! The Meredith's.
