This lovely holiday cottage is utterly delightful, tucked away in a peaceful valley in the folds of rolling Devon hills, a haven of seclusion and a real hideaway. Attached on one side to the owners' 17th century farmhouse, the cottage is entirely separate with its own front door, separate driveway and the spacious, attractive sitting room has French doors onto a south facing flagstone terrace (for sole use of the cottage) that overlooks a beautiful half acre orchard and ponds which is shared with the owners. Here it is possible to enjoy a summer evening barbecue, or stoke up the fire for a cosy night in after walk along the nearby coastal paths. Perfect for two or three people the cottage can accommodate up to 5 with the use of a sofa-bed. Lambs gambol in neighbouring fields and the resident chickens and ducks complete the rural idyll. Pippin Cottage is close to some of South Devon’s best surfing beaches with the beautiful estuary of the River Erme and Mothecombe beach a couple of miles away. The twin villages of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo with popular riverside pubs are on the nearby Yealm estuary, itself a boating haven for all manner of craft. Please note: the owners have two free-range friendly dogs, who play in the orchard from time to time.

“On leaving we know what it’s like to be thrown out of the Garden of Eden. Pippin is paradise...Can we come again please?”  The O’Dyers, Amsterdam.

“Just the perfect location and a very special welcome.  We loved the cottage at first sight and the scrummy cake and wine was a most unexpected delight. Thank you.”  Jim and Rita.

Steps up to the front door into a flagstone hallway with glazed door into the dining room. This bright and cheerful room has a dining table to seat 4 and a separate kitchen, that is well fitted and equipped with electric cooker with ceramic hob and double ovens, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. A short flight of stairs lead down to the charming sitting room, a lovely room with French doors to the terrace. Very comfortably furnished with three sofas (one a double sofa-bed), digital TV/DVD with Freeview, stereo CD player and a fine open fireplace with an attractive tiled Victorian hearth. Under the stairs is a boiler room with hanging for damp gear. A short flight of stairs from the dining room leads up to the bedroom, a very pleasing room with 4’ 6” bed, a sofa chair (this opens to a 3’ single bed) and a contemporary en-suite shower room with large shower cubicle, heated ladder towel rail, WC and hand basin.

A brick laid path leads to the front door. The large shared orchard extends out in front of the cottage with a private terrace immeddiately in front of the cottage, furnished with garden table and chairs, hammocks (summer) and charcoal barbecue. A stream runs across the end of the orchard with attractive unfenced ponds surrounded by trees.

Would highly recommend Pippin Cottage. Just perfect to relax and unwind. Tom and Jools were very welcoming and the cake, bread and wine was a lovely touch and delicious. Loved Stanley. Sad that we couldn't stay longer.

June 2017

This was an excellent cottage. Set quietly in the Devon countryside but not too inaccessible to everything we needed. The surrounding beaches and landscape were beautiful and in the evenings we would come back and enjoy the facilities of the cottage. It is well equipped and the hosts very helpful. Would definitely go back.

A lovely cottage in a peaceful setting. The owners could not be more helpful and considerate - Stanley the dog was a welcome and frequent visitor. The welcome pack was particularly enticing after a long car journey and very gratefully received. We loved our stay .

What a perfect base from which to explore Devon. Situated down a winding lane at Fursdon Farm, the bark of our hosts delightful dog Stanley greeted us and what a little treasure The Pippin is. Very deceiving from the outside although picture perfect with passion flower and wisteria climbing the walls and set in an orchard garden, the cottage is deceptively spacious and offers every comfort you need for a relaxing break. From the chickens who greet you, to sitting in the afternoon sun on the patio - this was absolutely perfect and would be our ideal dream home. Met our expectations and more. Thank you Dean, Julie and Pippa the Springer Christchurch, Dorset

Can highly recommend.

We had a great holiday at Pippin Cottage. We loved the location so peaceful and so nice to come back to after a day out. It really is in the country but not too far away from the attractions of Devon. We wouldn't hesitate to use Toad Hall Cottages again, and so pleased we found you on the Internet.
