Rill House is located on a quiet pretty lane in the heart of the picturesque village of Slapton, close to the coast in the South Hams. The lovingly refurbished cottage is full of character features and provides ample space for guests, both indoors and out. The south facing courtyard with sounds of the brook provide an ideal spot for summer barbecues and soaking up the sun, whilst the stunning enclosed gardens are perfect for children and dogs to play and explore. The extensive accommodation has a double aspect lounge with separate adjoining dining room and spacious kitchen breakfast room. All four bedrooms are also generous in size and all enjoy views across the village to the church. Slapton itself is just half a mile from the spectacular 3 mile beach of Slapton Sands that curves around Start Bay and is backed by the extraordinary fresh water lagoon of Slapton Ley, a nature reserve. Hours can be spent enjoying the seaside, walking or trying to spot the areas abundant wildlife. A short stroll from two popular village inns, both child and dog friendly, one of which is overlooked by a 14th century Tower, that beckon for tasty meals. There is also a well stocked village shop to provide everyday needs within just a couple of minutes’ from the cottage.

Please Note: For guest numbers of 4 or less in the low and mid season periods only 2 bedrooms will be made up.  Please advise us of your choice at time of booking, otherwise a double and a twin bedroom will be prepared. If a party of 4 or less require a third bedroom made up the price will revert to the full tariff.

Rear entrance from courtyard to kitchen-breakfast room with built in electric ‘range’ double oven, large American style fridge freezer, double Belfast sink, dishwasher, microwave, Tassimmo coffee machine (bring your own capsules), digital radio with ipod dock, dining table to seat 8 and 3 seater sofa. Utility room with sink, washing machine and tumble dryer. Hallway off kitchen leads to living room with two 3 seater sofas, a two seater sofa, TV/DVD and fireplace with wood burner stove. Dining room with table to seat 12 (extendable) and feature fireplace (not in use). Snug with entertainment for the kids (DVD player, X-Box and games, TV (no signal)). Cloakroom with basin and WC. First floor Master bedroom with king bed, TV, built in wardrobe and chest iof drawers. Bedroom 2 with king bed, TV, wardrobe and chest of drawers. Bathroom with bath with shower over (and a hand held shower), basin and WC. Second floor bedroom 3 with king bed, TV, built in wardrobe and chest of drawers, vaulted ceiling with exposed timbers. Bedroom 4 with twin beds, TV, wardrobe and chest of drawers, vaulted ceiling with exposed timbers. Shower room with walk in shower cubicle, basin and WC.

Private south facing courtyard with good quality table and chairs to seat 8, swing bench/bed and charcoal barbecue. Small stone bridge over shallow brook leads to beautiful large enclosed gardens with diverse shrubs, trees and flower borders. Lockable storage shed at rear of garden which can be used for bikes or kayaks.

For up to 3 cars in private gated driveway. 

  • Included:  Bed linen and towels (guests to provide own beach towels), electricity, oil central heating. Travel cot (no cot linen), high chair and stair gate.
  • Telephone: for local, incoming and emergency services calls provided. Mobile reception variable but generally good. Wi-Fi.
  • Pets: Very pet friendly property.Pet charge £25.00 per pet per week.  Will accept multiple dogs and will only charge for a maximum of 6 dogs. 
  • Local facilities:   Beach and National Nature Reserve 0.5 miles. Blackpool Sands 3 miles. Other South Coast beaches such as South Sands, Smalls and Sunny Cove at East Portlemouth accessible by car. Pub:  150 yards. Shop & Post Office: 450 yards. Kingsbridge with all facilities 6 miles. Dartmouth with all facilities 7 miles. Golf course at Blackawton 6 miles. 3 more within 10 miles at Churston, Bigbury and Thurlestone.

We loved Rill House, everything you good possibly need for a holiday cottage and great location for exploring the area. With two great pubs and the beach on your doorstop who could ask for more. It is made extra special by the owners allowing multiple dogs and that the owners have a great Facebook page where they regularly update their visitors with news of the area. The whole process through Toad Hall is very efficient and friendly.

Loved Rill House. Fantastic, peaceful location and beautiful gardens. Dudley the dog says thank you for his home baked doggy snacks. Will be booking again next year. Property is fabulous for multi dog owners, but, owners of small dogs need to be aware that small dogs can easily exit the garden to the road one side and neighbors property the other side via the stream as there are there are no safety grids in place to prevent escape.

<p>Thank you for your comments and I&#39;m pleased to say&nbsp;that the owners took the feedback about the stream on board and are looking at solutions to stop very small dogs going up and down stream beyond the garden boundaries when the water levels were low.&nbsp;</p>

Had a fabulous holiday we have never stayed in a house with such a well equipped kitchen Stunning location with a lovely 20minute walk to the dog friendly beach. Would recommend to anyone who wants a dog friendly holiday

Had a great time at Rill House. The cottage is stunning, well presented, fresh and suited to a summer or winter break, with all the requirements for guests to stay in if desired. Benefitted from a number of Christmas events locally during a December break and whilst floods were occurring at home we lucked out with great weather, visiting many of the local beaches, villages, towns and pubs, restaurants and coffee shops. Our 11 year old Lab X 'Nero' had a great time. Owners provided a wealth of recommendations and were very helpful. leaving some local essentials for our arrival (including a ball for the pooch!). Highly recommended.

We had a lovely stay at Rill house. The garden is wonderful and the beach is a 10 min walk away. Two lovely pubs in the village which were always busy. Would recommend booking. A lovely warm house with great facilities. Our dog loved his parcel of goodies and we loved the wine, milk and cake. Would def book with Toad Hall again.

Excellent cottage, great amenities on site. Beautiful garden. Really loved it, didn't want to leave. Feedback on cottage. Maybe an idea to have a phone for incoming calls only? They must have a phone line for internet. This only a thought as mobile phone signal was non existent except for waving it around at the end of the garden and we had problems ordering take-outs, especially as nobody would deliver to the actual house. Also a folder with all the info about the house, instruction books, wifi info, local info in a centralised place may be useful?

The Rill House is if anything better than expected. We would highly recommend it for a large group with children and dogs. The garden is large and beautifully stocked. The lawn was in need of a cut but other than that everything was great.

The service/communication from Toad Hall cottages was excellent. The cottage itself was fabulous & had a lovely feel to it. Everything was done to a very high standard; plenty of crockery & glasses, wide range of baking trays etc, luxurious bed linen & towels. The area provides lots to do, the beach is close by & Dartmouth is a lovely town to visit. The only thing to be aware of is very narrow lanes!
