Description

Situated on the edge of the popular village of East Prawle at the southernmost tip of Devon. Skippers is an impressively spacious and comfortable holiday home just a stone's throw from the coast and a short distance from the sandy beaches of the Salcombe estuary. Formally a modern coastguard cottage it boasts a large living room with woodburner stove, five comfortable bedrooms, two bathrooms and plenty of parking which includes room for a boat trailer. East Prawle has a lively pub; the Pig's Nose, a cafe and shop and easy access to the South West Coastal Path that meanders along this dramatic coastline.  From the sandy beaches at East Portlemouth you can catch the passenger ferry across the water to bustling Salcombe, where you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to shops, restaurants and traditional inns. This is a thriving boating centre with almost every type of watersport on offer from sailing to scuba diving, although sitting watching all this activity from the waterside Ferry Inn can be just as enjoyable as taking part. If you want to get out and explore, Torcross with its miles of shingle beach and Slapton Ley nature reserve are close by, the historic naval port of Dartmouth is well worth a visit, as is scenic Dartmoor.

  • Pets: 2 dogs welcome. Pet charge £25.00 per pet per week.
  • Local facilities: Beaches: Gara Rock approx a mile or 25 minutes' walk. Millbay 2 miles. Pigs Nose pub and Piglet cafe and shop (open March to end of October) 500 yards. Ferry to Salcombe 2 miles (there can be a queue during the summer high season). Kingsbridge 9 miles.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this well-equipped, comfortable house. As we were taking two dogs with us on holiday, it was wonderful to find they were welcome as well. We were there for a walking holiday and the location of the house was ideal: we were able to do three walks from the door which meant we did not have to brave the surrounding narrow lanes every day.

The outside locks all need attention as locking front door became difficult The cottage decor was abit tired. Cooker could do with being updated, worked ok but door abit dodgy. I felt that the cleaning could do with abit more detail as I found lots of dust and debris under sofas when hoovering. Plastic basin in utility room needs to be replaced as leaking. Showers were brilliant. Although internet was slow it was useful.

Excellent weekend with lots of coastal walking close by. A great house, very welcoming and in a fantastic location. We enjoyed the quirky local pub and waking to the sounds of lambs and geese.

We thought the whole accommodation was superb. It had everything we needed including a few complimentary food items on our arrival which was nice. All the rooms felt comfortable for our stay.
