The Ale House, a conveniently located 19th Century double fronted townhouse in the centre of Kingsbridge, close to the head of the estuary, features extremely spacious rooms and a pretty west-facing courtyard garden perfect for alfresco dining. The house benefits from a generous kitchen diner, two lounge areas, one with a wood burner and retains some lovely period features including sash windows and a beautiful old staircase.  With sumptuous furnishings throughout, and thoughtfully equipped with every modern convenience, this charming period house offers a wonderful base for friends, families and couples to enjoy.

Kingsbridge, an attractive, vibrant South Devon market town is the central hub of the South Hams offering a diverse selection of shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants, a museum, leisure centre with swimming pool and even a cinema.  The famous golden South Hams beaches are within easy driving distance and there are plenty of stunning walks to enjoy throughout the area including the South Devon Coastal Path.

The ground floor opens to a hallway leading through to the main sitting room with wood burner, two sofas, armchair, and smart TV. Second sitting room with two sofas, armchair and folding fully glazed doors leading to garden. Enormous kitchen diner with dining table to seat 8 and fully glazed windows/doors to courtyard garden. Kitchen area with larder fridge, larder freezer, eye-level double oven, gas hob with extractor hood above, microwave, built-in drinks cooler, Bluetooth speaker and small TV.  Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Impressive staircase leading to the first floor with spacious landing. Substantial master bedroom with 6ft super king size bed and window overlooking rear courtyard garden. Ensuite shower room with WC, basin, walk-in shower and heated towel rail. Family bathroom with WC, basin, walk-in shower, and bath with hand-held shower attachment. Cloakroom with WC and basin. Bedroom 4 with 3ft twin beds and window overlooking rear courtyard garden. Bedroom 3 with 5ft king size bed. Bedroom 2 with 5ft king size bed.

To the rear of the house and accessed from both the second lounge and the dining area is the west facing courtyard garden. Completely enclosed, level and paved with garden table to seat 8. Further decked area with comfortable rattan garden sofa.

One parking permit provided for the nearby Quay Car Park (approx. 300 yards from the property), this permit can also be used in other car parks around the South Hams.

If you require parking for a second car a weekly permit can be purchased from the Kingsbridge Tourist Information Centre or from the South Hams District Council, please enquire for further details.   

  • Included: Bed linen and towels (guests are required to bring their own beach towels). Electricity, water and gas fired central heating. Stairgate supplied for dogs (for the kitchen diner door frame). Wi-Fi.
  • Telephone: Landline telephone for incoming calls only.  Mobile reception excellent.  
  • Pets: 2 small to medium well-behaved dogs welcome (Regret no puppies). Pet charge £25.00 per dog per week.
  • Local Facilities: Shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, banks, post office, cinema and leisure centre all within very easy walking distance. Sandy beaches within 5 miles.

The Ale House was a perfect spot for us over Easter; beautifully decorated and so much space, with two separate living rooms and a lovely open plan kitchen/diner. The house is full of light, and really well-equipped, and the beds were gorgeous. The house is on a quiet road, but so close to everything in the centre. We tried several great restaurants, and walked up along the estuary with the dogs. We will be back!
