July 2023

A popular comfortable inn serving a great selection of food. Very friendly and efficient staff.

July 2023

The Jubilee In was an oasis away from the over commercialised Looe and Polperro. WE had an amazing Sunday lunch with a huge selection of vegetables. The Hake that we had later in the week could have been served in the best restaurants anywhere and lovely friendly staff

July 2022

Lovely pub, staff super helpful, menu a bit limited, would like potatoes rather than chips, but found that everywhere we went. Definitely worth a visit as food was very good.

We visited the Talland Bay Hotel for drinks and then Sunday lunch. It was first class. A classy restaurant with amazing views out to sea, beautiful gardens with quirky characters and art decorating both inside the hotel and in the gardens. The staff were so accommodating and the food was lovely. The truffle Parmesan fries were amazing. 100% would recommend.

July 2023

What a find! Our holiday 'home' was just down the road. The Hotel fitted us in for our Wedding Anniversary supper (we hadn't booked). They seated us by the window and put rose petals on the tablecloth, with a card and chocolates. They made the occasion very special, with such wonderful food and service.

June 2023

At least we tried to dine here on a couple of occasions but were unsuccessful in our attempt to book a table even though we tried to do so months ahead.

October 2021

Well known to us and it never fails to disappoint, they really put themselves out on the day for a 101 year old, excellent

An eclectic choice of decor (looks like items from a skip). Saw TV's Richard and Judy. Very expensive but tasty food.

Great coffee (local roasterie apparently) and food, all with that view. We were too early in season for BBQ but I bet they are great too.

June 2023

Called in for a drink on our Polperro to Looe walk . It is a lovely spot looking down to the sea and very friendly staff. We have called in there before on other visits rather than cafe on beach.

May 2023

Fortunately we visited out of season as there was only a limited amount of seating and the service was somewhat slow. But there was plenty of space to park the car in the field below. It struck me as more of a beach cafe than a pub so was a bit of a disappointment but it served its purpose.

October 2021

We loved it here on route to bay and coastal walk to Polperro. Great choice of food and drinks. Very friendly staff. Lovely bite of Talland Bay.

October 2021

Wonderful service, food and drinks reasonably priced. Very clean and tidy

June 2022

A lovely cafe overlooking the beach. Gorgeous mugs!

April 2022

Gorgeous little beach cafe in a spectacular setting.

October 2021

As beach cafes go it would be difficult to find better ! Everything was very well organised and clean, and it was in a perfect position next to the beach. The only thing lacking in our English inclement weather was indoor seating or at least more covered outdoor seating to give protection from rain.

October 2021

Good location right next to bay- parking a bit limited though

September 2021

Clean, friendly, good food and licensed. Beautiful location. A definite place to relax and unwind.

May 2021

Really lovely owners and delicious coffee. Very cute beach it style outdoor seating.

October 2020

An absolute diamond of a stopping off point on our coastal walk from Polperro to Looe! Yes, it's popularity means that cars are parked all over, but the quaint outdoor eating shelters, excellent service and welcoming menu made it a stop-over to remember! Even at high-tide, the children found enough distractions among the rock pools in front of the premises!

August 2020

Lovely views of the beach, can sit in the charming beach huts and enjoy lunch even if it is raining. Very friendly staff and excellent food and mugs of tea. Brie and cranberry sandwiches highly recommended! Café and car park well maintained, clean and tidy. We visited in September so not busy or crowded.

We hired kayaks here and had a great hour on the water, followed by hot chocolate in the cafe.

August 2022

Lovely food and beer - hasn't changed :)

May 2022

Fantastic welcoming staff and a very lovely pub in a pretty setting but our main course was just average. Dessert was good though!

October 2021

Great location at the top of Polperro, very friendly staff, great beers and food. Great place to soak up the afternoon sunshine with a pint or three. Does get busy outside on a nice day but has 2 outside bars so your never kept waiting long! Their prawn sandwich was one of the best things i ate on the whole holiday!

September 2021

We love it here. Happy, bustling vibe outside with a well stocked outside bar and excellent service. Good choice of menu and delicious food. My only negative is that the promise of live music sometimes seems to be a false one as on two separate occasions now, we have turned up early when live music has been scheduled and it hasn’t materialised. Weather conditions were good and no explanations were offered.

September 2021

Disappointing. The pub does not live up ti it’s provenance. Helpful staff but boring food.

June 2021

After having such lovely food in Polperro village it was disappointing to have frozen chips and bog standard pub grub.

Polperro Museum
(3 miles)

(15)

In The Warren overlooking the harbour, the Polperro Heritage Museum of Smuggling and Fishing houses a collection of exhibits and 19th century photographs that date back to a time when both smuggling and fishing thrived in Polperro.  It brings to life the little village’s beautiful history and the lives of the people who lived there, having depended on fishing for generations and been home to no less than three factories close by at one point.  A delightful opportunity for children and adults alike to learn about local history in this little Cornish village, entry is £1.75 for adults and 50p for children.

This is a great little, un-fancy museum with loads of information. It's worth spending time there.

September 2019

Great! And dog friendly!Worth a look and the tea rooms were great.

July 2019

I love a bit of local history and if your like minded, you'll enjoy this place. lots of information on the local boats and fishermen. it would take you a while to read it all.

August 2018

Well worth visiting to get a feel and understanding of how the once thriving community of Polperro used to be in former pilchard fishing (and smuggling) days. The old photos and exhibits transport you back to a very different world (though adults will undoubtedly find the museum more interesting than small children).

May 2018

This museum is packed with interesting facts and some great photos, so even though small we spent a good hour there. Definitely worth a visit to learn more on the local history (including about the more recent floods and storms), fishy facts and smuggling tales!

Polperro Model Village
(3 miles)

(8)

An utterly charming day out for the family, Polperro Model Village and Land of Legend is two attractions in one.  The village is, quite literally, the coastal town in miniature and has been around for more than 60 years, surviving both fire and floods – so don’t underestimate the strength of these little guys.  Meanwhile, Land of Legend is your chance to explore Cornish folklore, derived from tales of pirates and smugglers who thrived in and around Cornwall from the early modern period through to the 19th century.  It is a unique show of lights, sound and animation.  The site also houses a model railway, and prices are £3 for adults and £2 for children, open daily from Easter to October.

May 2022

Brilliant fun and interesting place to visit

June 2021

This attraction is much more than just a model village. We really loved it.

June 2021

Great value for money. Worth a visit.

September 2020

Disappointed not open

July 2020

Good attraction for young children rather than older children and adults. The miniature village and Land of Legend are charming (though perhaps a little 'worn' by modern standards). There is an interesting audio/visual on the Polperro floods of 1976 and 1993 and a separate small model railway.

beautiful line but service not very frequent

August 2022

Brilliant little railway journey. Lovely oldie Worldie station. Beautiful scenery.

July 2022

Easy to book .The train rise itself is OK but mainly through woodland so not much too see apart from trees. The walk from the train station to the town is abit of a walk about 15 minutes .The town its self is ok but seems to be for older people ie the shops are very old fashioned. Personally we would not visit again .

July 2021

Totally brilliant. Loved it

July 2021

Delightful branch line, frequent + reliable service, lovely views of estuary, woodland, bluebells ?!

June 2021

Enjoyed our train ride, but was disappointed in Liskeard, got the next train back.

September 2020

we got a group saver ticket and was very happy with the price, but unfortunately our train was due to leave at 11:10. we were sitting on the train waiting and at approximately 11:40 the driver came from his cab and apologised that the loud speakers were not working and that the train was cancelled, so we had to wait until 12:22 on a very warm train.

September 2019

Lovely little train ride alive the river, worth while. Recommend travelling to Lisgard and getting a return to Looe, much cheaper to park that way!

June 2018

Looe Museum
(3 miles)

(4)

Owned by the East Loose Town Trust, the Looe Museum is managed by a small community of volunteers, and gives a delightful insight into the history and character of the area.  It’s an opportunity to develop your knowledge of the town and locality whether you’re a first time visitor or frequent tourist.  They frequently house new exhibitions and take part in local events, acting as a supportive part of the community.  In 2016 they celebrated the 150th anniversary of the lifeboats in Looe for example, by loaning some of its objects to the RNLI for a dedicated exhibition.  Admission is £2 for adults, £1 for children, and £4.50 for families.

Talland Bay
(2 miles)

(16)

A small, quiet beach between Looe and Polperro, Talland Bay actually comprises two beaches, one of which has sand both at low and high tide and is good for swimming all the time, while the other is less sandy and is easiest to swim from at high tide.  There is a ramp for launching boats from the main beach and there are lots of small coves and tidal pools to swim in as well, so it’s a delightful area to explore in the water.  Parking is limited, but there is a small, free car park by the beach and paid parking at The Beach Café, all of which provide easy access to the sand.  Thanks to the nearby café, visitors can also benefit from the accompanying facilities, on-site shop, and tuck into Roskillys Cornish Ice-Cream as well.

October 2023

Having spent many a happy childhood holiday here - 60 years ago, so wonderful to return. It is so beautiful and with addition of 2 Beach cafes - even better now.

June 2023

Beautiful little bay with a great cafe overlooking it. Dogs allowed on the beach Oct to end of May.....

October 2021

Although there was indeed sand in one of the bays it was largely covered with seaweed at the water's edge when we were there. All very natural.

October 2021

Lovely bay, shingle beach

September 2021

Not a great beach and a bit smelly.

August 2021

Unfortunately the seaweed on the beach made it very smelly and also lots of flies. Beautiful apart from that!

June 2021

Lovely walk from polperro along coast. Cafe in picturesque bay pretty with little huts to shelter. Only downside was the coffee not good at all.

May 2021

Beautiful bay. A little smelly from the seaweed but rock pools galore and quiet

October 2020

Very interesting beach with rock pools at low tide and fascinating multi-coloured rocks, great for photography.

October 2019

A lovely place to walk too on the way to Looe. Hard work back up the hill to polperro, bit it's worth it!

October 2018

The coastal walk from Polperro to Talland Bay is outstanding. As both are scenic, (and Talland Bay benefits from an excellent cafe and free toilets), it makes for an excellent morning or afternoon trip in good weather.

May 2018

Polperro Beach
(3 miles)

(22)

In South East Cornwall, Polperro is widely thought to be one of the area’s most picturesque fishing villages.  Brimming with whitewashed cottages all the way down the harbour, the beach sits in a sheltered position under the cliffs, only visible at low tide and close to the harbour.  Unsurprisingly, it’s a popular destination and can get busy in the summer months.  Dogs are not permitted at the beach during peak season, from Easter to October, and while parking in the village itself is all but impossible, but there’s a large car park about a mile up the valley with a regular shuttle service going up and down the hill.

July 2023

beautiful little cove -- just watch the tide times ..........

August 2022

We didn't really use the beach but I did see someone allow their dog to foul on the beach and, although they cleared it up to a certain extent, I don't think this is really acceptable when children are going to be playing in the sand.

The most beautiful little cove featuring caves to explore and the 'net loft' out on the rugged rocks. The sea is a divine colour and I can't wait to come back and swim at a warmer time of year! I enjoyed two mornings in the sun and the peace of being out there first thing exploring this little beach area, it was a great start to those days!

May 2021

This Is a glorious, quaint fishing village with narrow winding alleys and a beautiful little harbour. It is more suited to couples rather than families as there are not many facilities for children, other than a small beach at low tide.

September 2020

Perfect . Love love love

August 2020

The children enjoyed exploring the caves and beachcombing when the tide was out, too many dogs off the lead but it was out of season. Main reason for leaving the review is to strongly recommend you take the two hour fishing trip with either Chris or Olly Puckey on the Smuggler. We had the boat to ourselves and had an excellent value for money trip which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Caught 3 mackerel and a pollock which we took back to the cottage and cooked for tea. A delight! Oh, and we went for brunch afterwards at House on the Props - definitely recommended, I've never had a full English on a baguette before, it was awesome!

October 2019

Our favourite place to visit with wonderful little shops, restaurants and art galleries to browse in on the walk down to the quay. Amazing views as you leave the village and head on the coastal cliff path back towards Looe. We took our dog and he enjoyed exploring the numerous rock pools on the beach. We also explored the right hand coastal path and stumbled across a secluded pool amongst the rocks - steep ascent but well worth the hike! People were bathing in the pool as it was a real sun trap..

August 2019

Small but lovely

May 2019

Beautiful beach if you love beach combing.

April 2019

Easy access, dog ok

October 2018

We visited Polperro harbour/beach with our springer spaniel and although the write-up says no dogs allowed, they are allowed, just on a lead between 10am and 6pm, although beach is small, the sea is safe to swim in and not full of huge rocks, lovely ????

August 2018

Lovely clean small beach.

May 2018

Polperro is a magic place. It is so pretty with its winding streets and old cottages and the harbour with its fishing boats. The residents are so friendly and welcoming and there’s a wide choice of restaurants and cafes. I particularly recommend Michelle’s for fantastic food and a real welcome. As a woman on my own I dined there, as elsewhere, with no feeling of awkwardness. Breakfast at the House on the Props just unbeatable! Spring is one of the best times to visit for the wonderful coastal walks and the masses of wild flowers. When you visit, think about the parking situation before you go as it needs organising, but many rentable cottages have spaces provided in the main car park and PauI who runs a little motorised transport system for luggage is very helpful and reliable. I am one of the thousands of people who just love Polperro and every time I visit feel a great reluctance to leave.

May 2018

Enjoyed the harbour etc and all the shops but had dogs so did not visit the beach but a beautiful setting.

June 2017

really lovely, a must visit desination.

Looe Beach
(3 miles)

(20)

In East Looe, the beach sits directly in front of the old town, sheltered by the Banjo Pier and overlooked from the east by the hillside of Mount Ararat.  A good family beach that has something for everyone, at low tide the sandy location is safe for swimming although it’s recommended you steer clear of the river mouth beyond the pier.  Unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed on this beach at any time of the year, but Hannafore beach in West Looe is dog friendly.  The beach backs on to a seafront walkway which runs its length all the way to Second Beach to the east, where it tends to be less busy and it’s good for snorkeling.  As it’s in the centre of the town there are lots of facilities and cafes nearby, but in the summer it’s a very popular spot and parking can be tricky, with traffic prohibited during these months, so be prepared for a bit of a walk.

Some days quite busy but great facilities and loads of activities

August 2023

Great, despite the early season seaweed, the tractor cleared it very well.

April 2023

LOVE LOVE LOVE

July 2022

All of the beaches around Looe are worth visiting - and the coastal path is a must. Fuel for the hike? Not listed in the reviews is Sarah’s Pasties which has the best pasties (we ate a lot of pasties during the week!). They were also one of the few eateries in the area which could provide something for someone needing a gluten and dairy free diet. We were able to preorder pasties that met her dietary requirements.

February 2022

Wonderful beach

December 2021

Safe and sandy beach perfect for kids

August 2021

I enjoyed the beach as it is very flat, which is important at 70, and I even had a paddle. The beach was very clean.

July 2021

One of the best beaches I have visited. It is nice and level and I was even able to have a paddle. It was very clean.

July 2021

Great beach so close all amenities

July 2021

Such a lovely beach. A shame people didn’t socially distance or even attempt to do so.

August 2020

Spent a week at new year in this beautiful apartment. Everything you could possibly need was in there. Lovely comfy bed, spotless clean and the bonus of a sea view. Central for everything. Will definitely return.

January 2020

Wonderful clean beach

October 2019

Perfect for the children but beware of seagulls. We always take a beach tent so children can safely enjoy their food and ice cream!

June 2019

Lovely beach suitable for everyone

June 2019

A wonderful place to sit relax eat an ICECREAM or a pastie, if the seagulls will let you! Perfect beach x

August 2018

You cannot fail to love Looe beach, early morning, during the day or for and evening stroll. A super clean beach.

May 2018

Lovely sandy beach. No dogs allowed but there is a small cove at the far end which allows dogs to enjoy their holiday too with a dip in The English Channel.

May 2018

Looe beach and seafront is cleaned every day (in season?) and looks good. A joy to sit and watch the sea and people passing by.

April 2018

Really good! Good sand and sea. Activities for the kids too. Difficult to get to cos no parking nearby.

August 2017

Lovely beach and even when it was busy didn't feel overcrowded

August 2017

Hannafore Beach
(4 miles)

(9)

Half a mile west of Looe, stretching along the coast, Hannafore Beach is a sandy, shingle bay with a rocky reef and views of St George’s Island.  At low tide it’s brimming with rock pools, making it fun and games for the whole family to enjoy, and it’s a wonderful sun trap in summer months thanks to its south east facing position.  Because of its location over the river, the beach never really becomes too busy, but equally there aren’t any facilities nearby.  It’s popular with dog walkers as it’s amongst the few dog-friendly beaches in the area, and having explored you can extend your excursion to a stroll along the promenade or a potter around the coast path to the wonderfully scenic Talland Bay.  There is roadside parking along the sea front above the beach, but it can be difficult to find a space.  Alternatively, there is a large car park in West Looe, around 10 minutes away on foot.

April 2018

Great beach. Good view of looe island. Loads of shells to collect. Lots of dog walkers tho!

August 2017

One of the many dog friendly beaches we visited lovely coastal walks to Talland Bay the nature reserve island is very interesting great refreshments available and not forgetting the free parking available all day which is very useful.

June 2017

Plaidy Beach
(4 miles)

(1)

A small and pleasant grey sand beach with rocks exposed at low tide, Plaidy Beach is simply a nice place to visit and take in the scenery.  There aren’t any facilities, and there’s no parking nearby so it’s one to reach on foot.  There’s a slipway to the beach, but you will have to access it by walking along the coast path, parking at Millendreath or Looe and it’s worth keeping in mind that it’s quite steep from both directions.  Millendreath is closer and the walk should take around 20 minutes.  Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, so it’s a charming place to take them for a walk while you’re in the area.

Absolutely wonderful time. Shame the weather wasn’t better, but I guess you can’t be held responsible for that. ?

September 2023

What a wonderful retreat the 'Cutch' is. from it's peaceful setting to the well equipped and spotless lodge. We've had an amazing week out and abut, visiting many beautiful places from this central location, and always looking forward at the end of the day to returning to the peace and tranquility for our temporary home. Thankyou Mel and J for creating this haven and all the little extras you provide - much appreciated. Wishing you all the best and a diary full of bookings - we will certainly recommend it - or shall it be out secret!!

Thank you so much for your kind words, which we will pass on to the owner. It's a special place to stay!

August 2023

Thankyou so much for such a well equipped home from home for us to stay in. Everything is thought of and were we slept so well on the super comfy bed. Perfect quiet setting, easy to drive to Looe & Polperro and walk in Pelynt. It was lovely hearing nothing but birds. The weather was a bit naff - would have loved to sit outside in the evening, but an excuse to return! Thanks for the welcome goodies too. A lovely place. Many memories made.

Thank you for your comments. The Cutch is so peaceful, sitting on the decking amongst the trees is just lovely!

Superb. Hopefully we will return.

October 2022

We enjoyed our stay --'Cutch' was excellent --not sure about the immediate area but that is subjective,

October 2022

This property was fantastic and so was the surrounding grounds ; we didn’t want for anything. The owner even left us essentials and bottle of Prosecco, which was very much appreciated.

Thank you for your review. The owners take a lot of care over their property!

May 2022

Our hosts could not have been more welcoming, friendly or attentive but without encroaching on our privacy. The Lodge sits in a very lovely and tranquil setting with excellent outside private space. A pleasant country lane walk into Pelynt offers good food in the Jubilee Inn and all the supplies we needed in the Spar shop/Post Office. We have holidayed in the Looe area for many years and it still remains one of our favourite holiday destinations.

October 2021

Our stay was perfect. Amazing welcome pack was very well received and a lovely gesture. This was our second stay at the Cutch and once again did not disappoint, great location, great property and Jonathan and Mel are great hosts. We will return.

August 2020

This is an exceptional property. The owner (Jonathan) was very welcoming and friendly, without being intrusive, and it is by the far the best stocked and fitted self-catering places we’ve ever stayed in. The setting was lovely, the quality of the Welcome Pack was outstanding, and it was a complete hideaway. We loved it. Discovering that the owners were wine shippers for the SW was an added bonus!

July 2020

We’ve had a great time! Jonathan & Mel were very nice.

November 2019

Yes it made a "Mercy Mission" so much more enjoyable.

October 2019

We had an amazing week at Cutch. It is a perfect location that is both hidden away but accessible to so many beautiful places in the surrounding area. Our weather was a little unpredictable to say the least but the Cutch offers such comforts that we had no problems relaxing inside. Just perfect and we will return!

October 2019

A great location to explore Cornwall for the first time. Very impressed with the accommodation and the contact from the owners. Most helpful and welcoming.

September 2019

We enjoyed the quiet location set amongst trees with large grass areas but close to the owners home, just 4 miles from Looe and convenient to other places we wished to visit on the west side of Cornwall. The weather all week was excellent and enhanced your stay. Mel and Jonathan were lovely hosts. They took us into Looe one afternoon when the buses failed to arrive! Again this was another excellent holiday "home" booked by us via Toad Hall.

July 2019

A beautifully presented lodge and helpful hosts. Couldn't fault it.

June 2019

Yes very much. Helpful and welcoming owners but very unobtrusive - perfect.

May 2018

This was the best english holiday I have ever had! Beautiful place! Beautiful area!

April 2018

This is an excellent place to stay. Clean and tidy. A very high standard of luxury accommodation. Mel & Jon were there if you needed them. Very private and quiet. The local pub served good food (the Jubilee Inn). Would recommend The Cutch to everyone.

March 2018

Very enjoyable.Beautiful property in a lovely tranquil location. Excellent position for walking the coast path.

October 2017

Enjoyed our stay details of property as listed found to be correct Welcome pack appreciated.

September 2017

We enjoyed our stay, the property is beautifully built and is worth the 5 star rating. The extra touches ,wine biscuits etc were also much appreciated and Jonathan the owner is afriendly guy.Just one thing ,although it states 10 minute walk to the pub this route takes you onto the B3559 and there is limited pavement/walkway. As we visted when the evenings were dark by 8 pm we felt this was rather dangerous even with a torch! The longer way round therefore took 20 minutes and was a bit muddy in places!

June 2017

A lot of thought has been put into the Cutch by the owners. It is a lovely peaceful place to relax and we really enjoyed our stay. The welcome pack and bottle of Prosecco were a pleasant surprise. We would recommend it to anyone and would like to go there again.

May 2017

Such a lovely property. The owners are incredibly nice and helpful and the use of the travel cot and high chair was greatly appreciated. Could not fault anything.

May 2017

Very good holiday cottage would recomend

October 2016

We found The Cutch an excellent property and enjoyed our stay very much. We will definitely consider staying at this property again when we visit Cornwall in the future. The owners were very pleasant and informative and kindly provided several items to welcome us for our holiday. The property was in an excellent location to take advantage of train services to other parts of Cornwall. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Jonathan & Mel provided a 'First Class' experience. We had a lovely stay in 'The Cutch'. Can't fault it in any way & cannot recommend it highly enough. We look forward to re-visiting in 2017.

May 2016

Although the details etc were excellent for the Cutch on your websight we thought it was still way beyond our expectations a nd would fully recommend it.

May 2016

We have not been disappointed with any of the properties that fall under the Toad Hall Cottages umbrella. Excellent standards of properties and excellent and efficient service received from Toad Hall staff. Thank you!

September 2015

This was by far the best cottage we have any stayed in... cosy clean and very comfortable. It seems to be in its own grounds even though the owners live not far from it. We cannot praise it enough. The wildlife is literally on your doorstep, owls, woodpeckers, squirrels, toads, rabbits and bats. The owners were very friendly and approachable. Ideally situated near Looe. We feel totally refreshed now and will certainly be returning. Love it.....

September 2015

I cannot praise this cottage enough, it is by far the nicest, cleanest, cosiest cottage I have ever stayed in, it has everything you could possibly want for a comfortable stay.
