Description

This simply stunning waterside holiday home is located at the head of a pretty tidal creek that flows into the Dart Estuary in South Devon.  Guests can relax on the balcony overlooking the water and watch the swans drift by or launch their kayaks nearby and paddle down Bow Creek, passing the local waterside pub to join the main river. This meanders upstream to the delightfully Bohemian market town of Totnes and downstream to Dittisham, the yachting haven of Dartmouth and the sea.  Recently totally redeveloped The Old Bakehouse offers unrivalled 5 Star accommodation, with a comfortable lounge and dining room, both equipped with woodburner stoves, a most impressive modern kitchen and 5 comfortable bedrooms; all en suite, which includes a huge master bedroom featuring attractive exposed beams.  Centrally located in the beautiful South Hams guests have easy access to the many beaches, country walks, stunning coastline, pretty Devon villages and Dartmoor National Park and as a result we couldn’t recommend this delightful retreat more highly.

Utility with washing machine and tumble dryer. First floor with 4 bedrooms. Bedroom 1. Two 3ft beds (can be linked to form a double), en-suite shower room and balcony with views over the creek. Bedrooms 2 and 3 with 4ft 6in doubles and en-suite shower roomsBedroom 4. 4ft 6in bed with en-suite bathroom.  Stairs to master bedroom 5 with 5ft bed and en-suite bath and shower room.

Balcony furnished with table and chairs running half the width of house, overlooking the water and accessed from the utility and window from lounge.  Natural garden across lane in front of property, laid to grass and managed for wildlife. Small seating area with picnic table, BBQ and laundry line.

Parking: for one medium sized car in front of property and for another car beside the property, between it and the adjacent barn.  Additional lane parking generally available close to property. 

  • Included: Bed linen, towels, WiFi, electricity, central heating (oil underfloor heating and woodburner stoves) and complimentary baskets of logs in appropriate season.
  • Telephone: For incoming and local outgoing calls only. Mobile reception poor.
  • Local Facilities: Various South Coast beaches within ½ hour drive. Two excellent waterside pubs serving food within ½ mile. Golf and leisure 6 miles. Totnes with all facilities incuding main line train station 3 miles.

Very comfortable stay and wonderful views

The house appeared not to have been cleaned for quite a while,there was alot of cobwebs in the corners,the fire was full of ash from the last time it was used and the cabinets and worktopsin the kitchen had crumbs on them.I was surprised that the beds were not kingsize.I assume that this was down to the fact that the property is up for sale.

We are very sorry that you experienced some cleanliness issues, which we'll pass on to the cleaners. We do state the size of all the beds on the website description of The Old Bakehouse, they never have been king size but trust you still had an enjoyable holiday. The Toad Hall team.

this is our 3rd stay in this property. We love the area and still feel we have alot to explore!I do recommend friends to Toad Hall Cottages as I believe it is a well run and customer friendly business.

Our holiday was with three generations of family and we were all totally impressed with The Old Bakehouse. The children loved the ducks outside the window and the 6 year old even asked why the river went up and down. She now knows all about gravity and the pull of the moon! Excellent kitchen equipment and everything was well thought out and comfortable. Amazing lanes and plenty to do in the area - the 'take away' fish and chips from the Maltsters Arms was enormous and very good. All in all a great holiday in a fabulous place.

The Old Bakehouse was very high tech but once we got our heads round that we found it excellent. We had our breakfast every morning sitting on the balcony & each morning the same trio of ducks plus one swan visited us. Such a delightful spot of all the holiday homes I have stayed at over the years this was the one I found hardest to leave

My friends and I absolutely adored our stay in The Old Bakehouse in Tuckenhay. The location was so beautiful and the house itself was stunning- so well presented and luxurious. We all said we would come back- amazing.

The Old Bakehouse is a modern property internally, and fairly hi-tech inside - with two elderly parents in their 80s with us, perhaps some of the gadgets were a little off-putting, eg. they arrived first and could not easily work out how to switch on a light; every light switch is a control panel with choice of options, also if you need reading glasses you need your glasses on to see what you are switching on/off, and this is a hassle in the dark! There are files of instructions around on how things work, but not necessarily the sort of reading you want on a holiday. We are sure it would suit all people tech-minded however, and we got used to it by the end of the week. Can not fault the property in any other way, it was immaculate, spacious and perfect for a larger family. All bedrooms were en-suite and to a very high standard. It is lovely to sit out on the balcony over the river. Would definitely return to this property in the future now we understand how the light switches work!!
