Everything was perfect! Having a real xmas tree to a lovely log burner. Just perfect for a christmas break. The stables was spotless and lovely and warm. Tina and ian where lovely hosts. The tower inn was lovely and cosy with excellent food and service. We had a great stay and would return. Thanks
September 2017
Had a good week apart from the uncomfortable bed.
September 2017
A Visitors Book would have been useful to leave messages in for the owners and other guests - apart from that the accommodation and location are of a very high standard and a pleasure to visit.
August 2017
We enjoyed it very much and it was nice to be able to walk to the shop and pubs in the village rather than have to go by car. The accommodation is excellent and we really enjoyed it and would be happy to recommend it to family and friends.
August 2017
the directions need to be amended as we could not find the cottage as you drive into the village you will see a property in front of you up a drive called Whitehaven on the left and you must take a sharp turn right where there is a property called (uplands ?) in front of you continue down this narrow road which bends to the left and you will see a double grey gate on the left open the gates and drive in to the stables
August 2017
The Stables exceeded our expectations. The cottage was of a very high standard equipped with everything you could possibly need. We were made to feel very welcome by our hosts and everything from muffins, milk and dog treats upon arrival made it a real home from home. The added gift bag from Toad Hall cottages for our dog was a real treat. The village was lovely with two very good pubs and a short walk to the beach. We cannot wait to visit again.
July 2017
Owners very helpful, told us lots of places to visit or not, a most wonderful holiday
June 2017
Had a lovely week. The Stables is comfortable no matter what the weather might throw at you. Sensible touches for walkers like tray to put your boots in and many places to hang coats. Easy walk to the pubs, the ley and the beach.

The Tower Inn
(Less than a mile)
Tucked away beside the 14th century tower that gives it its name, this is a family run pub serving excellent food in a beautiful setting. Sit outside in the sunny courtyard or let the kids run around in the rear garden in summer, or on cooler days enjoy the cosy panelled bar and restaurant. There is a wide selection of meat, poultry and fish options on the menu, all locally sourced, as well as veggie options, kids menu and popular Sunday roasts.

I very much adore the outdoor space with many interesting objects, such as chickens and incredible plants like magnolias and so on. The food is also rather good, and always makes the walk around the Ley worthwhile

old and atmospheric but not impressed by food or prices
May 2017
Great pub. Atmospheric and nice staff.
June 2017
Loved this place. Fantastic ambience and food. Helpful friendly staff and locals.
June 2017
Less than average food and I fail to see how the children can play in the courtyard - it's tiny and the front leads onto the road. Impossible to pay the bill with the contactless system - you literally have to walk to a tiny area and hope the wifi picks it up.
July 2017
We had a wonderful meal here. The place was lovely and staff were very friendly and were very accommodating with our dog. Would come again.
July 2017
A lovely pub that accommodated us at short notice for my daughters birthday and the food was superb.
August 2017
Menu was a little odd with some items coming with accompliments and some not. Also the bar bites on the main restaurant menu (not sure where they actually fit in along with small plates and also a bar chalk board) making the menu a bit disjointed. When phoned to book, we were asked had we dined there before, when we said we hadn't, we were told only the side room was available. Side room was fine but no cutlery or side plates on table (unlike the other rooms) and a bucket arrived to set our own! No other people in the side room and there was also tables free in the main rooms so didn't feel particularly welcome.
September 2017
Fantastic meal !
September 2017
Really nice atmospheric pub with very friendly and accomodating staff. Although the food was very nice and we all enjoyed our meal I thought it was quite over priced.
December 2017
Great food and very friendly
April 2018
A beautiful, historic and friendly pub set in a delightful location and with a lovely garden. The food is excellent and certainly not the standard 'pub food'. A children's menu is also available and is more than adequate. This is a relaxed, family run, village pub where children & dogs are welcome. We have visited many times and particularly like their Beer Festival in May.

Lovely pub - excellent food
May 2017
returned again and as usual everything from staff to food excellent. Will be back next year Thoroughly recommended
June 2017
Very lovely and friendly staff, however, disappointed with the food. My fish and chips were virtually inedible due to the fish being so overcooked and the frozen chips of a very poor quality. Sadly, we visited on our first night and therefore didn't eat there again. The garden however, was very beautiful so we did return there to sit in the garden and have a couple of drinks with our dogs.
June 2017
We booked a table at The Queens Arms, the menu looked good and varied. It is a charming place, set in the attractive village of Slapton. However, the service leaves something to be desired ! We arrived at 6.50pm and the food did not arrive until an a hour later, without apology! The food was good, but the service, badly let this pub down, and we did not eat there again for the remainder of the holiday, and we would have done if the service had been better!. The saving grace was the food and the lovely barman, he was charming, shame about the rest.!
July 2017
A lovely pub with with wonderful hosts and a great menu, we visited several times whilst on holiday

A lovely, welcoming pub, extremely friendly towards both people and dogs! The food was excellent and very reasonably priced and there were no less than FIVE local ciders available. Highly recommended.
October 2017
We go here every time we are in Devon even if we have to drive an hour to get here. We ate here 4 times this year and we are always delighted we the atmosphere, the staff always remember us and they are so dog friendly, one evening there were 9 dogs in. The food is delicious and huge portions, good selection of beers, ales and ciders too. Do not drive past here and make sure you ring an book a table, you do not want to miss out this absolute gem of a pub !! Can't wait till next year

A friendly pub in a beautiful location. The menu suits all tastes and is particularly good for children. The terraced garden is well managed and is beautifully laid out and well planted.

One of our favourite must go to places. Great food, good setting (with places to play for the kids) and good little shop too).
December 2016
Excellent small cafe/pizza area, Number One, sells a good range of gifts, many garden related. The plants are healthy, well cared for and reasonable priced and the farm shop produce fresh and good selection. Pleasant helpful staff
May 2017
Always a favourite for breakfast and for stocking up on delicious things for our holidays in Torcross. The tractor provides seemingly endless fun for a toddler and the friendly staff are all lovely.
May 2017
We love this place, probably popped in most days for delicious meat, cheese and treats. We don't eat out often as our dog is nervous around dogs that get too close so eating in can feel like a chore. But with lovely grub from a friendly shop, it becomes a treat. Plus it's supporting the local trade which is so important.
June 2017
LOvely but expensive

Dittiscombe Equestrian Centre
(2 miles)
As the self proclaimed ‘home of horse riding in the South Hams’, Dittiscombe Equestrian Centre offers horse riding lessons to everyone, whether they’re beginners or seasoned riders. Friendly and professional, they have an indoor school and an outdoor school so you can organise lessons whatever the weather, and you can borrow hats when you’re visiting as well if you don’t have your own. You can opt for private or group lessons, and there are toilets and changing facilities on site as well as plenty of parking. The school is two miles inland from Slapton Sands, so you can also combine your lesson with a trip to the historic D-Day training site and a wander along the beach if you fancy it!

Don't expect Alton Towers- but if you want a great place to spend the day and keep the kids entertained, then this is the best there is in South Devon. I'd say better for 7-13s than anything over....

We really enjoyed our visit. My husband and son had a tour (£5 per adult and under 5's free) and thought it was brilliant. Children under 1.1m's tall can not go on the tour so my younger son and I enjoyed the coastal views which were fantastic.

Had a really interesting tour at the end of September, which was the highlight of our holiday. Out guide, Mary, was very friendly and informative. Would highly recommend this. Fantastic location and views and very interesting history. Thanks Mary.

Blackpool Sands
(Less than a mile)
Between Dartmouth and Slapton, Blackpool Sands is a beautiful shingle bay on the South West Coast Path, surrounded by evergreens and pine trees. It really is a treasure of a beach to visit while you’re in the area. Award-winning, the privately owned, blue flag beach boasts a sense of being in the Mediterranean on a good day in the summer, although a good jumper never goes amiss in this part of the world! You will no doubt not be surprised to hear that it is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, however it also boasts ample facilities and things to do. There are showers, toilets and disabled facilities, as well as paddle board, kayak and wetsuit hire available for those wishing to earn their visit to The Venus Beach Café, where light bites and refreshments are served. The Venus Shop also sells all the bits and pieces you might want for fun and games on the beach if you have forgotten them or are in need of extra buckets and spades. The water at Blackpool Sands is known for being clean and clear and tested by the Environment Agency, and lifeguards are on hand in the summer (July to September) so there’s every reason to pop in for a dip. However, dogs are not allowed on the beach in the high season (12th March to 30th October) so keep the walking for the cooler months. There is parking available at the beach with seasonal charges, and you can find out more information on those from the Blackpool Sands information line on 01803 771800. This beach is easy to get to and quite literally fun and games for the whole family, as well as a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year to take in the view!

Slapton Sands
(2 miles)
A long stretch of beach with spectacular views of the sea stretching into the distance, Slapton Sands is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and for good reason. Adjacent to Slapton Ley, a freshwater lake that’s home to an abundance of wildlife and one of the many reasons people come to visit the area, the beach has a history of welcoming families in the summer for long days in the sunshine, building sandcastles, surfing, windsurfing and kayaking. It’s amazing to believe that this peaceful corner of South Devon has its place in military history as in 1943 the beach was taken over by allied forces to use as a rehearsal area for the D-Day landings. However, live ammunition and poor visibility ended in the deaths of more than 700 servicemen, so today there is a stone monument in place for Operation Tiger, as it was called, as well as a Sherman Tank at nearby Torcross. On a more current note, there is a beachside café at Slapton Sands for teas, coffees and other light bites, and there are also toilets nearby. The beach has disabled access, and also allows dogs throughout the year, so it really is fun for everyone and very easy to get to. There is parking nearby and in the summer months from May to September there is lifeguard cover. Last, but not least, a small collection of pubs reside in Torcross for those who are feeling peckish after a long day in the fresh air, or if you have been for a nice walk along the sand!

Clapton Sands is beautiful. The rocks are the most beautiful colours, wild flowers abound on the beach, the views in either direction are stunning and it is rarely over crowded. One of the most wonderful areas in the U.K.

September 2017
Really interesting area and good walks along the coast and by the Ley. Generous provision of toilets and parking and a number of places to eat. Would particularly recommend The Start Bay Inn, The Boathouse and Seabreeze Cafe at Torcross. Also very handy that there is a bus should you want to walk one way and get a bus back.
