This converted former farm building is within view of Dartmoor National Park’s most famed beauty spot and well loved ancient tor, Haytor Rock, and now provides three fantastic holiday properties.  They have been sympathetically converted and beautifully styled and furnished with a blend of warming moorland colours and cosy soft-furnishings which are complemented with modern luxury amenities.

Light, bright and stylish with versatile accommodation, The Haytor Wool Store is an end of row barn which boasts views over open moorland behind the property as well as garden and meadow views to the front. Tastefully furnished and comfortably appointed, it is perfect for couples as a romantic bolthole as well as for friends holidaying together.

Rural, yet not isolated, the peaceful location will dazzle the senses for those seeking outdoor pursuits as well as those wanting a restful holiday at any time of year.  Each of the properties boasts stunning views across open wild sweeping moorland as well as across rolling Devon countryside towards the sparkle of the South Devon coastline.  Dartmoor ponies are likely to nuzzle at the property’s gate.

Whether on foot or on bike, there are endless routes straight from the front doors, and the many mysterious Dartmoor tales will captivate the imaginations of all ages.  The historic quarries at Haytor are just a short walk away, from where you can follow the Haytor Granite Tramway, tracing the route to the coast uden when granite was exported during the late 18th Century.  For cyclists, Haytor is a regular Tour of Britain stage. For more restful pursuits there is a fabulous cafe bar offering delicious local goodies, a wonderful Dartmoor Inn and restaurant, and a National Park Visitor Centre that will equip guests with plentiful local information within a short stroll of the barns.

Just slightly further afield, within a mile or so, there is a well stocked farm shop as well as a selection of picturesque village inns and tearooms; and just beyond that a wider selection of amenities are found within Bovey Tracey. Beyond Dartmoor, the shops, theatres, and cinemas of Exeter are not far away.

The local beaches of Teignmouth, Shaldon, Dawlish and Collaton Cove are around 30 minute drive away. Day trips to the South Hams and beaches also offer a great alternative for a fun day-out.

Please Note: This property can be booked together with The Haytor Hayloft and Haytor View (subject to availability of course), providing accommodation for groups of up to 14 guests;

The front door opens into light and bright dining kitchen.  Plentiful work surface space and modern specification appliances will delight the keen chef.  The kitchen is equipped with an induction hob, built-in oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and separate fridge with freezer compartment (no washing machine or tumble dryer).  An oak dining table for six is positioned beside large windows overlooking the garden.

The lounge features a large corner sofa which can be used an occasional bed for two extra guests, Smart TV and DVD player.

Cloakroom with WC and washbasin.

To the first floor, a light spacious landing leads to bedroom 1 which overlooks the garden and meadow and has a 5ft king bed.

Bedroom 2 boasts moorland views and is also furnished with a 5ft king bed, Smart TV.

Both bedrooms have open hanging hooks and chests of drawers.

Bathroom with WC, basin and bath with shower over, wash basin and WC.

Grassed garden area with pathway to front door.

As one of Dartmoor’s most iconic landmarks, Haytor and the surrounding area make a magical base for anyone looking for a truly rural escape. The tor itself is Dartmoor’s biggest, and draws visitors year-round to climb the granite outcrops which offer wonderful views of sweeping moorland, rolling countryside, the beautiful Teign Estuary, and the stunning coastline beyond.

Easily accessible from Devon’s major through-road, Haytor provides great access to nearby Exeter (with its Cathedral, theatres, shops and restaurants), the rest of the moor, and some spectacular coastline. Explore the vast wild beauty of the moor on foot, bike or horseback, or simply relax and soak up the peaceful tranquillity of the picturesque setting.

On Dartmoor, a friendly pub, country house or restaurant is never too far away. Haytor itself enjoys a great moorland café bar and a traditional Dartmoor Inn, whilst just a few miles away you can explore delightful villages such as Widecombe-in-the-Moor, home to the fantastic Rugglestone Inn which is everything a Dartmoor pub restaurant should be.

With horse-riding, cycle paths, kayaking, and rock climbing among the activities on offer on the moor, there are plenty of outdoor pursuits to keep you busy. Meanwhile, nearby attractions such as Becky Falls, Pennywell Farm, the Butterflies & Otters Sanctuary, the steam trains at South Devon Railway, Exeter’s Crealy Adventure Park (to name but a few!) make for brilliant family days out.

If you fancy a day at the beach, the coast at Teignmouth is just a half hour's drive away, and the wonderful beaches of the South Hams are less than an hour away.

A holiday cottage in Haytor provides the perfect spot for a relaxing Dartmoor holiday in a truly peaceful rural setting, yet with a vast variety of things to see and do within easy reach.

Sunday lunch was a bit disappointing but the lunches during the week were really good. Staff are very friendly.

December 2023

No daily specials so the same choice every day. Food tasty and well presented but the limited menu put us off eating there more often.

September 2023

Really great place to eat and in a lovely setting. The very best battered cod we had ever ate. A little more vegetarian choice would be very welcome

May 2023

Very dog friendly. Grandson (aged 4) loved the children's burger and we all loved the garden. Shout out to the bar manager who remembered us from a previous visit.

May 2023

Very friendly staff and dog friendly too. We enjoyed our meals there but portions aren’t enormous but good quality food. If the weather is good then the gardens are perfect for a drink and relaxing in with your dog.

September 2022

Visited for a lunchtime drink, largely out of curiosity (we knew it when HF ran it for walking holidays - very much spruced up since then, though I regret the loss of the lovely flagstones in reception & possibly the black silk wallpaper & outrageous chandelier!) The Devon cider & ale were good & the decor pleasant, though not so sure about the rather intrusive music. Service pleasant & others seemed to be enjoying their lunches off a fairly extensive menu. Downside is the 4* hotel prices on drinks - much dearer than either The Cleave at Lustleigh or The Kestor Inn at Manaton.

June 2022

We love the food at this hotel (Quality at a very reasonable price). We dined here regularly in both restaurants whilst staying in a cottage nearby with my partner's father staying at the hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. When her father sadly had to be taken to hospital to have his ulcer treated the manager and her staff assisted us admirably, the Manager calling the ambulance and giving the relevant details to the service provider. Thankyou so much and best wishes to you all at The Moorland.

Outstanding every time

February 2024

We had two meals here and both were excellent. Staff really lovely.

December 2023

A really nice pub with a lovely garden but odd opening hours.

June 2023

Superb setting. The garden is wonderful. Food was first class but a little more vegetarian choice would be good

May 2023

It would be nice to be able to review the drinks and food but when we walked in there wasn't a soul to be seen despite the door being open the pub was deserted. The garden looked lovely. After waiting several minutes we left and went to the Tinpickle & Rhum.

May 2023

Looks like a country pub from the outside but is more a hotel/restaurant inside. We didn’t eat but the food looked good. Really nice garden and good beer. Also dog friendly but only certain spaces inside.

September 2022

We know this establishment from many previous visits over several years and can recommend it highly. It is in a beautiful location and serves excellent food. There is always a friendly welcome there.

August 2021

Awesome. Beautiful garden for pre dinner drinks. Excellent menu and quality of food and service.

June 2021

Had two meals at Rock Inn. Small menu but delicious food - especially the Lobster Bisque Risotto starter.

June 2021

Great pub, but really disappointed with the food. Better pubs in the area - especially The Old Inn up at Widecombe

May 2021

Lovely pub with a great garden, very friendly. My only recommendation would be to introduce a lite bite and sandwiches to their lunch time menu.

July 2019

Good food and service

June 2019

Fantastic Sunday lunch, great service.

June 2019

Really welcoming place, lovely garden and nice quirky interior to the pub. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Food absolutely yummy, perhaps a little expensive, but perfect for a special evening out.

May 2018

Superb evening meal. Fantastic quality, good choices and professional service. Very attractive interior too.

February 2018

The staff were very helpful and pleasant and it was a cosy traditional rural venue. The food was very good although small portions and I would say a little overpriced. Overall did enjoy this venue.

February 2024

A great place to shop

September 2023

Excellent, reasonably priced Breakfast. It was great to have the animals and play area for the children too.

July 2023

Great place to take the family. Toy tractor barn and goats to feed for the kids. Super food. But cafe gets very busy and you need to book.

June 2023

Excellent local farm shop. Meat really good.

June 2023

Child and dog friendly. Lots of animals for small people to see and pet and excellent breakfast!

May 2023

Fantastic place for food and ice creams. Lovely staff and fantastic range of things to do for young children. Well worth a visit. We went twice during our week at the wool store.

July 2022

A Nice, family friendly place. Their menu has a lot of choices but as we had a late lunch there on a Father’s Day, they have run out of a few options. What we had was still tasty though.

June 2022

Amazing!!

March 2022

Reasonably priced cafe with unadventurous hot food menu, I.e. burgers, fish and chips. Thumbs up for the home made raspberry jam available from the shop. Good play areas for kids.

October 2021

It was very busy whenever we went and we were unable to get a table. There appeared to insufficient staff to keep tables cleared.

July 2021

Very friendly staff. Had a wonderful takeaway cream tea.

May 2021

Great facilities and shop, especially for children!

May 2021

Very nice place to eat, food good reasonable prices, quite comfortable and clean.

October 2020

Had a lovely meal here. There was a good atmosphere and the cafe was nicely decorated in Halloween theme for the kids. The shop stocked lots of local food and goods though a bit pricey. Felt safe regarding their Covid procedures.

October 2020

Good farm shop. Unfortunately unable to book a place in cafe.

September 2020

Excellent breakfast

September 2019

Superb food, great service. If you're looking for a good breakfast to get you started in the morning, this is the place to come!

July 2019

Great place for lunch, or just coffee. Good food, friendly staff and dogs welcome. Visit the excellent butchers while you are there.

June 2019

Well worth a visit, gorgeous setting and wonderful food!

August 2018

One of the best quality cooked breakfasts we have ever had! Great value for money.

February 2018

The pasties from here are lovely. We also got a lot of our gifts to take home from here. Great products on sale and very friendly staff.

October 2017

We were staying just up the road from this great place, so called in for lunch with my son and family, who joined us from Torquay. The place was quit busy, but the staff were really helpful, and let us know the approximate wait for our meal. This turned up fairly quickly and was excellent. The size of the steak and ale pie has to be seen to be believed! Will definitely call in again.

September 2017

Made a couple of visits during our stay, not a huge selection but lovely pies. Also tried the local wine & some of the coffee's. Worth a visit.

September 2017

We were staying a mile away near HayTor for two weeks in June and used this excellent farm shop most days. The friendly staff make you feel welcome and the service is very efficient. We ate there several days and as much as we could used it as an alternative to supermarket shopping. The meals are excellent and the cakes are works of art!

July 2017

A fabulous little farm shop and cafe. We stopped here for lunch when we arrived and breakfast during the week. We picked up all our meat from the onsite butcher, but there seemed less choice in the shop compared with our visit last year.

April 2024

Highly recommended, the animals and the walk around the falls very enjoyable

September 2023

Expensive to park the car £9 per passenger didn’t bother

June 2022

We had a great visit to Becky Falls and completed all of the walking trails. The visitors centre provided games, a petting zoo, a gift shop and refreshments and the staff were friendly and helpful

June 2022

A rip off. We have similar, but more scenic, attraction in Cornwall with free access.

May 2022

Not impressed. A rip-off we have one in Cornwall that is free and very picturesque.

September 2021

pleasant place to visit. We chose to do the shorter red route, which gave excellent views of the falls, but involved clambering over boulders, which was a little too adventurous for us. Generally the advice and signage for the walking routes could be improved

September 2020

Loved this lovely walk

worth a visit if in the area

April 2024

Very interesting place to visit. A lovely gift shop, items of quality on sale. Ability to see glassblowing, and try the many marble runs. The restaurant is very good, serving tasty food , the ploughman’s is particularly appetising.

October 2023

Great family attraction. Fascinating to watch the glass blowers and all the marble runs. Lovely shop and cafe. Great food.

June 2023

Dog-friendly place which is a bonus. Nice place to pop into but items expensive

March 2023

Worst visit ever. Service was poor and staff made no eye contact so it was difficult to get their attention.

August 2021

We spent a very pleasant and interesting morning here . Cafe was very good and plenty to see and do. Staff were excellent

July 2021

An interesting place to browse, with lots of variety. The museum bits are informative (local pottery industry, some glass) & the standing kilns well preserved, so good the industrial archaeology is being kept safe. Nice cafe, unusual furniture, mirrors etc & some clothing for sale, but Teign Valley Glass is the best - made on site & free to watch. Lots of marbles too & quirky, intriguing marble runs are fun. Good on the way to or from other places.

June 2021

Very interesting for the children. A bit tight in terms of space and distancing in places.

Far from the bustling crowds of Paignton and Brixham’s bigger beaches, this small pebbly cove is a truly relaxing spot. The calm waters are great for swimming and are said to have been one of Agatha Christie’s favourite bathing spots. Elberry Cove even features in one of her crime thriller novels, The ABC Murders. This picture-perfect cove, surrounded by sloping wooded hillsides and crystal clear water, can only be accessed by the coast path, with the nearest carpark at Broadsands Beach. From here, it is only a 10 - 15 minute walk, but make sure to pack a picnic or grab a bite to eat at Broadsands Beach before you set off, as there aren’t any facilities at here. Dogs are welcome on the beach throughout the year.

We have stayed in The Woolstore many times now. That shows how much we love the property.

October 2021

Loved it. Perfect spot with walks from the door. We used the bedroom overlooking the garden and had no issues with road noise that might be the case with the other bedroom with its window near road level, although I would hope that the road is fairly quiet overnight. The Moor side of house is a lot cooler than the garden side due to facing north. Well furnished and equipped The Wool Store surpassed our expectations.

October 2021

Perfect spot for walking on Dartmoor. Very comfortable.

July 2021

One of our favourite things was just walking on the moors with Olive the dog and got to climb up Haytor Rock as the sun set. Heaven!

July 2021

Yes, it was very relaxing and in a beautiful location. Only problem was the traffic noise when sleeping in front bedroom.

June 2021

Had a fantastic week holiday staying at The Woolstore. Thank you for the delicious cake. The cottage was perfect and the beds so comfortable. Everything we could wish for. Lovely to be able to walk from your doorstep and we enjoyed the food in the Moorland Hotel next door. We will return.

June 2021

Had a lovely stay in the Woolstore. Enjoyed walking on Dartmoor, looking for letterboxes on the tors and bouldering at Bonehill and Smallacombe rocks. Had a good lunch at the Home Farm Cafe at Parke and cream tea at Ullacombe.

June 2021

We very much enjoyed our stay.

May 2021

We had a wonderful stay. The weather wasn’t great to start with torrential rain but the woolstore is lovely so we had quiet days reading and watching DVD’s. The week perked up weatherwise and we enjoyed wonderful walks from the Woolstore and Widecombe-in-the-Moor. A very relaxing stay and we found the Woolstore had everything that we needed. Thank you!

May 2021

Yes excellent stay. Location is fantastic and really enjoyed the property. Host/owners were very responsive to a couple of small queries we had. Also WiFi was better than expected allowing me to work as well while away

April 2021

Fabulous stay here. Thank you Sarahjayne and Matt for supplying everything we needed! Such a lovely cosy house with a perfect location and outlook. Thoroughly walked our socks off as well as easy travelling to the coast. Cake was delicious (we ate it all!) and nice to find milk already in fridge. Bovey Tracey is a great village - the butcher even came out to give our dog some fresh mince! Also highly recommend Cafe 64 and Thomas’ Bakery! We will return!

November 2020

We always enjoy our holidays at The Barns. Not even the bad weather will dampen our enthusiasm.

October 2020

Thank you for a wonderfully relaxing stay. The Woolstore is a fabulous, comfortable cottage with a great living space. A fabulous location; who could ask for more! Due to the current 2020 situation and both working full time, as well as a busy summer ourselves running our holiday cottages, this was the first opportunity that we had in 2020 to have a break. We chose well and will return! Thank you for all the thought that went into making our break special including the fabulous cake! The fact that we only went out once in our vehicle sums up how relaxing and perfect this break was.

October 2020

Third visit to this cottage which is comfortable and ideal to visit the attractions of Dartmoor and the coast.

October 2020

Lovely stay, thank you. We really liked The Woolstore, it had everything that we needed. The weather was much better than we expected with great walks on the doorstep. Thank you.

October 2020

After the first very wet weekend we had better weather. Loving the Dartmoor walks - been here many times. First time at Haytor Barns, great location for moor and coast.

September 2020

Great location; everything you need in a holiday let. Enjoyed exploring the area. The walks were amazing. Our first stay but we will return! Thanks!

September 2020

A great place to stay... A fantastic location! W'eve really enjoyed our time staying at Haytor. The weather was very kind and we managed to get to the beach a few times as well as explore the moor. This morning, I even managed a run up to Haytor Rocks! We look forward to visiting again in the future... Thanks!

November 2019

Our 10th visit. Enjoyed our visit as much as always despite wet weather. New parking arrangements a boon. Last Easter there were 6 adults in the Loft with 3 vehicles plus many visitors with cars!

September 2019

Stayed in August 2019 - A lovely week away for a Birthday & we were lucky to experience great weather most days - in the sea at beautiful Thurlestone! Some lovely walks too, great location. Thanks!

September 2019

Really enjoyed our stay

August 2019

Yes very clean and comfortable

July 2019

Fantastic location for long or short walks. We enjoyed our time at The Woolstor. If you have a dog and like walking this is a must.

June 2019

We have stayed at the Wool Store many times and the property and locale never disappoint. Will definitely visit this property again.

June 2019

Property has a good layout, is well equipped, and great location.

October 2018

Our 8th visit, so that speaks for itself that we love Haytor Barns. Had some drama this time when the water supply was cut off twice but the very friendly owner explained the situation and the supply was restored within a couple of hours. As mentioned in our comments for Haytor View, perhaps a quick paint job would be good to keep the barns looking fresh. We will return!

October 2018

Comfortable, cosy well equipped cottage with beautiful surroundings and plenty of walks from the door

September 2018

Wonderful stay in a very well appointed holiday cottage. Please pass on our thanks and appreciation for the little extras ( cake, milk, tea, coffee, olive oil and even things like foil and clingfilm). The cottage was furnished to a very high standard and was in a perfect location. Would love to come and stay again and we were both sad to leave.

August 2018

We had a wonderful stay once again at the Wool Store and our children didn’t want to go home. It is such a beautiful spot with so many places to visit. We realise that the property is dog friendly and love dogs ourselves, however, the floors really need washing before the next guests arrive. The rest of the property was very clean. Last year when we arrived there was a little welcome pack of cake and fresh milk in the fridge. We found this a lovely touch and think you should consider reinstating it.

June 2018

We had a lovely holiday here thank you, great location, great views, excellently equipped, plenty of space-would highly recommend. Thank you.

May 2018

We really had a great time here, a lovely little cottage in a beautiful, if remote, location. Would recommend as a base for the local area, not too far to get to north, south or west Devon.

December 2017

We loved our stay here and found the Wool store a perfect barn for a weeks stay on Dartmoor. Would love to return.

October 2017

This was our 5th stay at the Wool Store so it goes without saying that we love this property. The only criticism we have is that dogs are now allowed in the Wool Store. My husband's asthma is badly affected by pet hair and we would not normally ever stay in a property that allowed pets. Having said this, we found no trace of pets on the premises other than a feint doggy smell on the sofa. It will not stop us returning and we are already booked for Easter.

September 2017

This property was areal find. A fantastic location, and a very pleasant accommodation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are planning to return next year.

August 2017

Fantastic location right on the doorstep of Haytor. Loved it.

August 2017

We thought the TV, wi-fi and the shower were particularly good. We have been to cottages over the years where the TV signal and wi-fi were slow so this made a nice change.

July 2017

Lovely location. Shame it's so close to the road though only an issue for 1 bedroom and if you're not used to the noise of cars at night. Still slept well. The house was very well equipped and fitted out. Would like to return.

May 2017

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this beautiful property in its fabulous location and we hope to book again.

March 2017

We will definitely return to the Wool Store next year as the accommodation, facilities and location are excellent. My only problem is we didn't stay longer.

March 2017

The cottage was really well equipped, ideally located and we would use again, thank you.

May 2015

A very pleasant property in a wonderful under rated area.
