Totnes Good Food Market

Held on the historic Civic Square on the third Sunday of every month, Totnes Sunday Food Market is a smorgasbord for fresh and organic growers with lots of tempting take-away stands all adding to the inviting aroma. Here, you can expect to find an abundance of organic and wholesome produce, a favourite haunt for foodies in search of South Hams delights. The market provides a wonderful focal point for your day out in Totnes, a characterful town with a fascinating Elizabethan heritage.

Dartmouth Farmers’ Market

The Old Market Square in Dartmouth provides the venue for one of the South Ham’s oldest farmers’ markets held on the second Saturday of every month. Freshly baked artisan goods, Dartmoor honey and cottage garden flowers are just some of what’s on offer at this popular pannier market. The Old Market building is Grade II listed and has a long history of market trading dating back to 1828 when local farmers would arrive with ponies laden with goods in their saddle baskets, a daily occurrence in this jostling port town. The square lies in the centre of the town, surrounded by independent shops, cosy tearooms, bistros, cobbled streets and pretty boulevards.

Modbury Barrow Market

Set in a quiet terrace off the high street, Modbury Barrow Market remains an exciting focal point for locals and visitors. Held every Saturday throughout June and September, expect to find an array of handmade arts and crafts, homegrown delights, up-cycled jumble, and quirky cottage creations, much of which arrives by wheelbarrow. Once you’ve had a mooch around the stalls you can explore the rest of the village and the various shops and eateries that line the well-known thoroughfare of Church Street. Some of the traders have been known to dress up as Barrow boys and girls to add to the charm of the occasion.

Now in its fifth year, the market sets out to showcase the best in garden grown goods and handmade arts and crafts, all lovingly made with originality and flair. The market also functions as a skills hub where you can learn about the traditional methods of local artisans, from bakers and weavers to joiners and potters.
