Kingsbridge Fair Week 21st – 28th July 2018

The countdown to Kingsbridge Fair Week is fast-approaching lift-off.

This historic market town in the heart of the South Hams will once again host its popular annual shindig under the decree of an ancient royal charter.

The charter dates back to 1461 and is honoured by a garlanded glove-hanging ceremony on the brow of Kingsbridge Fore Street, its upstanding words read aloud by the town mayor.

Traditionally, the fair was a muster for livestock trading and business dealings. These days, the event focuses entirely on family-friendly activities and frolic-filled contests. Overnight the carpark on Kingsbridge Quay is transformed into a funfair enclave and the flowery town square is filled by music and merry-making.

“Congratulations to Kingsbridge Fair Week Royalty 2018. Isabelle Rundle has been chosen as Fair Queen, while Libby Grant and Charlotte Turner are the two princesses”

The culmination of Kingsbridge Fair Week remains its flamboyant carnival procession which attracts floats from towns and villages all over the West Country. Other events include, a dazzling firework display, 10k road race, 5-a-side football tournament, raft race, pool and darts knockouts, a night-time lantern parade, bingo, quiz night and lots, lots more.  It’s little wonder this much-loved, seven-day bash remains a firm favourite among our guests.

The 2018 Fair Week Programme is now on sale from the following outlets: Kingsbridge Information Centre (Town Square), Martin McColl (Fore Street) Martin McColl (The Quay) Co-op, (Ilbert Road), Tesco, Ashby’s Easy Stores.
