The best beaches in Britain

If you’ve been dreaming of a cottage by the sea, let us turn your dreams into reality…

The South West attracts thousands of holidaymakers to its beaches every year, all coming to enjoy the crystal clear waters and golden sands. Concerns about the increased costs of travelling to Europe following the triggering of Article 50 and our pending ‘Brexit’ have left many Brits exploring the option of a beach holiday somewhere closer to home.

And, what better way to discover the UK’s best beaches than booking a holiday cottage by the sea? We’ve hundreds of stunning properties to choose from, be it stylish, luxury seaside apartments or a spacious family-sized holiday home.

So if you’re looking to explore some of the best beaches in Britain, then try these for starters:

Watergate Bay, North Cornwall

The golden sands of Watergate Bay, with its dramatic cliffs and craggy inlets, plays host to Weavers Loft ; a fabulous 400-year-old Grade II listed barn, tastefully renovated and furnished to a very high standard. This gorgeous conversion still displays many of its original features; a window into its past as a former weaving house for Cornish tartan. The apartment is full of natural light and has access to a lovely rear garden with sun terrace, ideal for barbecues. Here, you’ll be within strolling distance of Cornwall’s dramatic North coast and the famous sandy stretch of Watergate Bay.

“We both totally fell in love with Weavers Loft as soon as we discovered it on the Internet! So very pleased that it was as described, it’s like home from home and has been a great base for us to visit places all over Cornwall.”

Bigbury-on-Sea,  South Devon

Bigbury on Sea is a haven for watersports enthusiast and beach lovers. Surrounded by magnificent coastline and the rolling hills and wooded trails of the Avon Valley, Bigbury on Sea is the perfect spot for a relaxing day out at the seaside.

Here, surrounded by some of South Devon’s most breathtaking coastline, is 1 Lower Sandbanks , an exceptional property offering the luxury of modern living and within walking distance of some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. Tucked down a quiet residential lane, this ultra contemporary ground floor apartment (one of six), has been designed to a high specification and enjoys its own cedar decked terrace and parking. From here, you’ll discover the wide expanses of glorious sandy beach and enjoy magnificent views from any number of cliff-top walks.

“Quite simply FANTASTIC ! Thought long and hard about writing this review. It is SO good I don’t want others to realise and keep it as our secret!”

Salcombe, South Devon

The pretty seaside town of Salcombe is one of the most popular coastal resorts in South Devon. Steeped in maritime history, the town still retains a small fishing fleet, however, most of the harbour traffic during the thriving summer season is recreational. Salcombe plays host to some of our most spectacular holiday cottages, and all with breathtaking ocean views.

Sandhills is a luxury apartment boasting a stunning clifftop outlook towards Bolt Head. Here, you’re only a short walk from the crystal blue waters off two sandy coves, North and South Sands. Stop for a bite to eat at the shabby chic Winking Prawn café, and explore the tropical cliff gardens at Overbeck’s.

“What a beautiful setting and home. We have had a fantastic, relaxing, quality holiday. We will be back.”

Charmouth, Dorset

Charmouth is a village and civil parish at the mouth of the River Char in the western corner of Dorset. This friendly and traditional countryside village is situated at the heart of the Jurassic Coast; an ancient coastline encompassing dramatic cliffs, fossils, and some of the most beautiful and unique scenery in the UK. The village itself is characterised by West Dorset’s rolling hills and Regency houses, which elegantly line the streets. Charmouth boasts a host of famous visitors and is steeped in history. Here, we find Toll House, a historic dwelling closely tied to the history of the village, being one of a series of toll houses that originally stood along the route of the Great Western Turnpike, and dating back to the 1700s.

“This was an ideal property to stay in. Beautifully decorated and fitted out […] A lovely sunny, enclosed garden which we, and the two dogs, thoroughly enjoyed, and only a short walk from the shops and Charmouth’s lovely beach. I can’t fault it.”

Talland Bay, South Cornwall

To the west of the town of Looe, is Talland Bay, a stunning stretch of the Cornish coast. The bay, itself, forms two sheltered, shingle beaches famous as a landing spot for smugglers in times gone by. Our array of holiday cottages here ranges from the historic to the contemporary, accommodating families, groups, couples, or singles; with many of our dwellings also classed as ‘dog-friendly’.

Talland Bay’s beaches are perfect for summer swimming at high tide or bracing walks in cooler weather along the cliff tops. Here you’ll discover 1, Talland Bay, part of a luxurious development with breathtaking sea views and excellent facilities, including hot tubs and an indoor heated poolThis is an exclusive estate within the secluded location of Talland Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering guests stylish accommodation finished to a high specification, making it a perfect spot to kick back and relax with great facilities at arm’s reach.
