Our TOP 10 South West Beaches

5) Mill Bay Beach, South Devon:
Facilities: Car park, toilets, disabled access down slipway
Dogs: Allowed, no restrictions
Lifeguard Cover: None

This sheltered beach on the Salcombe estuary boasts plenty of golden sand and at low tide joins up with the other nearby East Portlemouth beaches. There’s a small car park with toilets, but if this is full try parking at East Portlemouth and walking, or travel across from Salcombe using the ferry. Close to the ferry point there is a seasonal café, perfect for some locally sourced hot and cold snacks. This dog friendly beach has plenty of space for lots of family fun including a great area to the back of the beach for ball games, loads of rock pools to explore and clear waters; fantastic for both swimming and watersports. But if this all sounds a bit too active, Mill Bay is a great spot to simply laze on the beach and watch the boats go by.

Nearby Harbour Watch, with it’s own private beach should the short walk to Mill Bay be too much!

Enjoy stunning views of Salcombe from Harbour Watch in East Portlemouth and if you want to bring your boat, why not book the Mill Bay Boathouse too which has WiFi, parking, private access to the beach and a tidal mooring.

There are still plenty of other sandy spaces which we’re sure you’ll love to explore, so keep reading to find out where else has earned a place in our countdown to the region’s Number 1 Best Beach.
